Oh man, the Four Tops are a band where I could put on their greatest hits and listen all afternoon, but a few favorites: It's the Same Old Song; Baby I Need Your Loving; I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch); Standing in the Shadows of Love; Shake Me, Wake Me (When It's Over)
This is the record . I'd bet anything on it. Been listening to this for 57 years.
But really great reaction to a classic song from the best period in music history.

Levi Stubbs, the lead singer here was the voice of the man eating plant, Audrey II, in the movie version of "Little Shop of Horrors".

nobody did a more popular version; probably been covered 100 times but NOBODY ever tried to make this song anything but a Four Tops song
During the high point of the Motown Sound, it was a tremendous time to be in high school. There was the Motown singers and the British Invasion began. Wha a great time to grow up, wonderful. to be living in Detroit as well.
It was amazing growing up in Detroit in the 60's. We played motown all day on our sterios. I was in grade school when this hit by the 4 tops came out. The black artists that came out of motown also tended to bridge the racism between the blacks and whites at the time. Although I think the healing came later on. 1967 was also the year Detoit went through the riots. I remember. It was hot and I think July or August and all hell broke loose in Detroit. My dad didnt go to work because of the civil unreast that was going on. Crazy times
The Contours were the group with the first Motown album, and on that album is my favorite song "Do you love me now that I can dance".

for a sample of Levi Stubbs great voice on display. He had opportunities to go solo, but he stayed with the group.
The shouting type of vocals were suggested to Levi by I think Eddie Holland and/or Brian Dozier to emulate Bob Dylan. Levi of course made it his own.
The Temptations were also good with their dance moves in time.
Motown producers deliberately wrote the songs in the upper range for Levi Stubbs because that said it made him sound passionate. Listen to “Ask the Lonely” to hear Levi at his best. Thanks Funk Brothers and James Jameson on bass. RIP Levi.

Hey Maggie...The Four Tops are one of my favorite groups from Motown sindce I was only 10. Now I'm 71 and still I can listen to their tunes. The harmonysinger Duke, Renaldo and Lawrence had only a "thin" voice so the Andantes (three female backgroundsinger of Motown) supported them not only in this song...You can hear the female voices in the second part...
You should look at motown it was a treasure chest of talent and world class acts found no where else in the world at that time. An american original

I wonder if you heard The Jaded Hearts Club version of the tune. It's a recent recording (2020) with more of a rock beat.

Lead vocals match the single release so I doubt it’s live. But it is possible they may have mixed in some of the live performance. Unless the single was taken from this performance! 😂😂😂
