I have the same story as you. When I was 5, my class and I went to a music studio for our educational trip and they were asking for volunteers on who were willing to try using the drum set. I was one of those who volunteered, however people in my class started laughing at me because they used to think drumming is for boys only and at that time I was clueless that they go for that kind of belief because I've always believed that playing instruments, such as drums, shouldn't be limited to only one sex or gender.
I'm always amazed at people who can play drums like.... Your head need to think what notes to hit next, your hand banging those drums, legs kicking whatever name those thing down there and your body dancing to the melody.. BAKSU!!👏👏
