Eren is admirable, but charging in to fight after Thomas was killed caused the deaths of his entire squad including himself. Jean made a tough call to run and ended up saving a lot of people. Neither one can really be blamed for their decision, it's a tough call to make.
man I'm so glad you said that. I've seen other reactors absolutely hate Jean too because of the same thing. When they get blinded by the hate for his character's decision they don't notice the REASON for his decision and the parallels between him and Eren's situations. They just dismiss his character as a failure rather than seeing he decided not to risk more lives saving those who are about to get eaten (even if it took him a long time to decide). I almost blame the writers for making Mikasa TOO badass this early because it sets the bar too high and makes all the other characters with legitimate fears of the titans seem pathetic and weak.
I'm not saying Eren is right but for someone who had seen his mom getting eaten by a titan so it's understandable why he blinded by rage and you can't blame him for that it's just the way he grew up on the other hand Jean haven't lost his mom due to titan and he had proper childhood so he doesn't have the desire to revenge. In Jean’s defense, they didn’t have the gas to help their teammates earlier which is why everyone stayed back and didn’t act. They were forced to watch knowing they couldn’t help. So yeah, he was right to be pissed at the supply team. It’s their cowardice that prevented them from saving others.
Jean is as much guilty as those supply squad. He had no right to judge them when he chose to let his team mates die. Supply squad chose the same thing i.e, saving themselves. If Jean's at fault then Supply squad is also at fault but if he's not then they're not either

Can you share your failed theories? My friend came up with the idea that Titans reproduce by eating humans and digesting them into the smaller titans(3-4 meters one) that they later poop/vomit out and who in turn grow to 15 meters. He argued that "the humans never seen the titans reproduce because when titans eat, humans cede ground and aren't there to witness the whole reproductive process". And after S1E9 he postulated that Grisha created a titan vaccine that allows eaten humans to become transforming titans when they come into contact with stomach acid of the titan. Given time he would probably vaccinate all the people(comming back to him saving Shinganshina from a plague) and that Annie was after Grisha and subsequently Eren because the people she serves have to keep vaccine a secret.
The guy who was praising Jean the first time was also the guy who praised him the second time. The one who died was someone else. Edit: Honestly, the best part about this watching people react to this show is watching them come up with insane theories to explain all the plot twists, and occasionally, big braining and actually predicting something correctly.

The guy that everyone says is a great leader, Jean, actually is a good leader. He comes off as cocky and arrogant, but the main takeaway is that he makes decisions using his best judgement of the situation around him. He hasn't let fear stop that so far - and all the other characters have taken notice. The best person to look to in times of chaos is typically the one who remains calm.

But that moment Mikasa cried was so powerful. You could easily tell she had been holding that in ever since she heard he died. Also want to point out just in general terms since ppl are discussing..... we have to remember that these peeps are humans, and they're hella young, and they're new to this. Mikasa and Eren you could say are outliers, in the sense that they're able to summon an insane amount of courage and willpower to do what they need to do. A lot of the ppl who freeze or panic to the point of not functioning or thinking rationally, that's a more normal reaction for their age when confronted with these giants that eat people. And even the best leaders have trouble making extremely tough decisions when lives are on the line.

Hi! I watch other reactors but I also love your reactions as well. I just wanna say that you don't have to be afraid about comments roasting you, that's very normal. You can say everything that comes to mind about what you're watching. And I loved that scene that you actually got hyped and screamed when you saw it was Eren. Most of the times, other reactors just looks confused or shocked or even proud when they knew they predicted it right. Keep it up. ❤

There is practically no gas left in their ODM), for the sake of saving his own life and the rest of the squad. He one of the coolest guys in this story. You will see how he will grow in the future ,) In my opinion, Jean and Connie (and Sasha of course) some of those characters through which author show real human thinking. They aren't just comic relief characters.

12:25 OK... You are being EXTREMELY unfair to Jean right there 1. Eren was an AWFUL leader. Instead of accepting Thomas as a casualty, and then decide the best option for the rest of the squad, he made them follow him in a suicidal charge, which got all of them killed. 2. When Jean "froze" (and remember "anime time": it was actually a very short moment) Mikasa was the one leading the group, but because of her recklessness she ran out of gas and felt. Then Connie, out of nowhere, appointed Jean as the leader, and abandoned the group to save Mikasa. So Jean found himself leading a group consisting on the remaining of several unexperienced squads, low on supplies, in the middle of a desperate attempt to reach safety. So is totally normal that he froze for moment before que regained his composure and started to make decisions. 3. Not saving his comrades was the RIGHT thing to do. They were so low on gas, that starting a fight could be totally suicidal, even more considering how inexperienced they are so it would have only lead to more casualties. Jean actually made the best of a bad situation: he saved the rest of the group, while the Titans were distracted eating the fallen soldiers (who were already lost, and couldn't be save anyway). 4. The guy praising him in that scene is the same one praising him before. He's name is Marco Bott, the Nº7 of the trainees (if I'm not mistaken). The one who died was a random soldier. Please, don't take this the wrong way, I'm loving your reactions, but I think you failed to understand what's going on with this character. Hope this helped you.

Jean actually had every reason in the world to be pissed. Being a veteran myself, I can say for a fact, when you're in the military, especially in a wartime situation, you are expected to fulfill your duties, especially when you have comrades who lives are dependent on those duties being fulfilled. Something as important as the supply team HAS to endure and deal with any setbacks that get in their way, in order to keep the supply line going, making sure their comrades have everything they need. When HQ got raided by the titans, it was up to the supply team to deal with the problem in whatever way they could to make sure they keep the supplies to all of the other squads. The supply team should be happy that Jean was the only one to act out on them, because realistically speaking, everybody NOT on the supply team were perfectly justified in joining in on the beat down of the supply team.
even in other industries. for example, food service. if the kitchen isn't doing their job properly and quick, the wait staff catches the temper of customers. that's why i had jobs that has little to no reliance on others to do their job. only myself to blame if it fucks up.
to all the people that said they shouldn't complain about jean, pls stop we all been there, the reason you complain is cuz you know how deadly the titans are, and saving the people grabed would be suicide. the show just started for them, with time they will get why it was the best decition but let them get there.
Jean was just making smarter decisions than the rest. He knew himself and others with the exception of Mikasa and some others had no ability to fight the titans so running away to save as many people was the best decision he could've made there. I'm sure you guys will go on to realize this later on. I can't say I liked Jean from the very beginning either.

I get where you’re coming from on the Jean subject but you really have to understand that titans are extremely dangerous. It takes at least a squad of five average soldiers to take one out or at least injure it. Jean and the others had to watch. The ones who charged in weren’t “good leaders” they were the suicidal ones. Plus weren’t there like 7 titans down there. Just imagine how much of a mess that would be. I completely understand why you dislike jean at the moment but I just want you to take what I said into consideration
Don't hate on ma boi Jean he has a really strong character development, and I think they show a realistic side of the war between humans and titans, like how a lot of soldiers fear for their lives, some try to join the Military police n stuff and I don't really blame anyone for being a coward in this series, It would not be realistic if everyone had the courage to join the survey corps, go risks their lives to help their comrades, fight face to face with titans like Eren n Mikasa, I hope u guys change your thoughts about Jean I find his personality really interesting :)
When I first saw AoT, I legit thought that makers of the show were going for "breaking the common sense" tactic where they're trying to break people's assumption that "main character can't die" by killing off Eren
Honestly, I was in the same boat as you on the whole Jean deal. I did not like him at this point. However, looking back I realized that they are all still kids and this is their first time in combat. Mikasa being a total bad ass sort of makes you forget that, but pretty much all of them were frozen in fear and Jean still had the nerve to speak up. He's actually very brave and if I were in his shoes, I hope that I could be as half as brave, because Titans scare the living shit out of me. I absolutely hate Ellen becoming a leader. When Ellen becomes the leader, he just emotionally rushes to death and is immediately wiped out. Jean is more suitable for leaders. Also, take into account the situation in this world and complain about Jean and other trainees.
IMO, Jean has all the right to get mad at the supply team for not doing their job and endangering the rest of the sodiers that needed their supplies on field. I guess, try to put yourself in his position. Just graduated, suddenly put on the frontlines, first time to encounter titans. Of course someone would freeze from terror if they face one. But he was able to still lead his team to safety (albeit not all). Whereas with Eren, he let his emotions rule and got his team killed. I'm sure you'll be able to understand Jean more as the series progress. Dont be too hard on him. He's not even my fave character but he's a very relatable character for me as his views are the most realistic (atleast for me). Thanks again for the double reaction video drop! Seriously, Jean made the right call here and he wasn't being a hypocrite. He made the only choices he could under the circumstances. Circumstances which were created by the supply team not doing their job. Jean was out doing his job while the supply team sacrificed dozens by cowering in fear. If the supply team had done their job, Jean and his team would have retreated over the wall and been safe instead of having to wait around on roof tops getting snagged by titans. Jean uses logic rather than emotion to make his decisions. Those decisions take their emotional toll of course, but he has yet to make a wrong decision. This isn't the type of anime where the power of friendship somehow saves everybody from a hopeless situation. This is much more gritty and realistic than that. People die and very often there is nothing that anybody else can do to stop it so they just have to stand by and watch it happen. Jean was not questioning his leadership position because he didn't save them. He was questioning his leadership position because he didn't know if he had the strength to watch his friends die for the greater good.

There's no point in having a huge echo chamber where every single person thinks the exact same shit, value other people's experiences and thoughts. Now of course, its human nature to want people to agree with you and share a feeling, but when they don't, don't take it as a personal attack to you or the show. Not sure if anyone explained the pomegranate in episode 7 to y'all (or if y'all figured it out yourselves), but since you've seen Eren alive, pomegranates symbolize rebirth in many cultures. Really enjoying y'all's reactions and discussions for both shows and the editing. Everyone loves leaning really hard into convincing new reactors that Eren is dead. And no worries about hating Jean. He's kind of a little shithead.
I hated Jean, now I love him. Character development for everyone is real, until they die. 😂 It’s true Jean (and the rest that was watching) might’ve saved those guys without much casualties but he didn’t because he was afraid. He did lead most of the others to safety and took advantage of the situation. It’s also true almost none of them had to die if the supply team came with the necessary supplies needed to retreat to the wall immediately.
Why people are roasting anybody over theories with AoT and series like it I don't get. Part of the fun of series like these are the theories and talking about em. Hell I remember when it first dropped and blew up everybody everywhere had there theories that where crazy and wrong . Manga readers are still wrong and still arguing over theories with only a couple chapters left lol, people can't just let people be.
The tradition on snk reactions is basically: Reactor says something about a character or an idea Comments "but have you considered this..." It happens all the time because that's even if reactor 1 says "I think they should do x as opposed to y, y doesn't make sense" the comments will be like "y actually makes sense as opposed to x wich is the option that doesn't make sense", if reactor 2 says "I think they should do y as opposed to x, x doesn't make sense" the comments will be like "x actually makes sense as opposed to y wich is the option that doesn't make sense" I could have summarized it to "the comment section plays the devil's advocate" but that wouldn't be right given that actually both comments are not wrong If a reactor says "jean made the right choice" (wich never happens) I'm sure they will be comments being like "wow this is first time this happens" and "I mean, did he th? their necks were exposed they could've done something kinda like in the gas station" (will probably be overshadowed by the other comments because, really, that never happens) but if it was more common that's what would happen

I was trying to remember how I felt about Jean initially. I think initially I didn't care about him enough to really like or hate him. I do agree with most people who explain what Jean was supposed to be as a character in these parts. He was the weak side of humanity. But watching these episodes, i never thought you guys were hating on him. Infact it felt like a very natural criticism. He definitely was a hypocrite when he started beating those people in the HQ. So I don't even understand how or why people get so defensive with characters. Especially since its literally episode 8 of more 85 episodes to date. The show has literally started. I've had characters that I hated initially but loved towards the end. And I think you guys would have that experience as well... Can't wait to see more of your reactions.

Can you share your failed theories? My friend came up with the idea that Titans reproduce by eating humans and digesting them into the smaller titans(3-4 meters one) that they later poop/vomit out and who in turn grow to 15 meters. He argued that "the humans never seen the titans reproduce because when titans eat, humans cede ground and aren't there to witness the whole reproductive process".
And after S1E9 he postulated that Grisha created a titan vaccine that allows eaten humans to become transforming titans when they come into contact with stomach acid of the titan. Given time he would probably vaccinate all the people(comming back to him saving Shinganshina from a plague) and that Annie was after Grisha and subsequently Eren because the people she serves have to keep vaccine a secret.

The guy that everyone says is a great leader, Jean, actually is a good leader. He comes off as cocky and arrogant, but the main takeaway is that he makes decisions using his best judgement of the situation around him. He hasn't let fear stop that so far - and all the other characters have taken notice. The best person to look to in times of chaos is typically the one who remains calm.

But that moment Mikasa cried was so powerful. You could easily tell she had been holding that in ever since she heard he died.
Also want to point out just in general terms since ppl are discussing..... we have to remember that these peeps are humans, and they're hella young, and they're new to this. Mikasa and Eren you could say are outliers, in the sense that they're able to summon an insane amount of courage and willpower to do what they need to do. A lot of the ppl who freeze or panic to the point of not functioning or thinking rationally, that's a more normal reaction for their age when confronted with these giants that eat people. And even the best leaders have trouble making extremely tough decisions when lives are on the line.

Jean places high value on the lives of others, ashamed and afraid when he has to leave his comrades (they couldn't have saved them. There is practically no gas left in their ODM), for the sake of saving his own life and the rest of the squad.

In my opinion, Jean and Connie (and Sasha of course) some of those characters through which author show real human thinking. They aren't just comic relief characters.

1. Eren was an AWFUL leader. Instead of accepting Thomas as a casualty, and then decide the best option for the rest of the squad, he made them follow him in a suicidal charge, which got all of them killed.
2. When Jean "froze" (and remember "anime time": it was actually a very short moment) Mikasa was the one leading the group, but because of her recklessness she ran out of gas and felt. Then Connie, out of nowhere, appointed Jean as the leader, and abandoned the group to save Mikasa. So Jean found himself leading a group consisting on the remaining of several unexperienced squads, low on supplies, in the middle of a desperate attempt to reach safety. So is totally normal that he froze for moment before que regained his composure and started to make decisions.
3. Not saving his comrades was the RIGHT thing to do. They were so low on gas, that starting a fight could be totally suicidal, even more considering how inexperienced they are so it would have only lead to more casualties. Jean actually made the best of a bad situation: he saved the rest of the group, while the Titans were distracted eating the fallen soldiers (who were already lost, and couldn't be save anyway).
4. The guy praising him in that scene is the same one praising him before. He's name is Marco Bott, the Nº7 of the trainees (if I'm not mistaken). The one who died was a random soldier.
Please, don't take this the wrong way, I'm loving your reactions, but I think you failed to understand what's going on with this character. Hope this helped you.

Jean actually had every reason in the world to be pissed. Being a veteran myself, I can say for a fact, when you're in the military, especially in a wartime situation, you are expected to fulfill your duties, especially when you have comrades who lives are dependent on those duties being fulfilled. Something as important as the supply team HAS to endure and deal with any setbacks that get in their way, in order to keep the supply line going, making sure their comrades have everything they need. When HQ got raided by the titans, it was up to the supply team to deal with the problem in whatever way they could to make sure they keep the supplies to all of the other squads. The supply team should be happy that Jean was the only one to act out on them, because realistically speaking, everybody NOT on the supply team were perfectly justified in joining in on the beat down of the supply team.
even in other industries. for example, food service. if the kitchen isn't doing their job properly and quick, the wait staff catches the temper of customers. that's why i had jobs that has little to no reliance on others to do their job. only myself to blame if it fucks up.

we all been there, the reason you complain is cuz you know how deadly the titans are, and saving the people grabed would be suicide. the show just started for them, with time they will get why it was the best decition

Jean was just making smarter decisions than the rest. He knew himself and others with the exception of Mikasa and some others had no ability to fight the titans so running away to save as many people was the best decision he could've made there. I'm sure you guys will go on to realize this later on. I can't say I liked Jean from the very beginning either.

Make sure you are pausing and reading the lengthy paragraphs that show up during the episodes. Several of them have important information and explain certain things. Specially toward the end itll explain how someone was able to see something
I get where you’re coming from on the Jean subject but you really have to understand that titans are extremely dangerous. It takes at least a squad of five average soldiers to take one out or at least injure it. Jean and the others had to watch. The ones who charged in weren’t “good leaders” they were the suicidal ones. Plus weren’t there like 7 titans down there. Just imagine how much of a mess that would be. I completely understand why you dislike jean at the moment but I just want you to take what I said into consideration

Don't hate on ma boi Jean he has a really strong character development, and I think they show a realistic side of the war between humans and titans, like how a lot of soldiers fear for their lives, some try to join the Military police n stuff and I don't really blame anyone for being a coward in this series, It would not be realistic if everyone had the courage to join the survey corps, go risks their lives to help their comrades, fight face to face with titans like Eren n Mikasa, I hope u guys change your thoughts about Jean I find his personality really interesting :)

When I first saw AoT, I legit thought that makers of the show were going for "breaking the common sense" tactic where they're trying to break people's assumption that "main character can't die" by killing off Eren
Honestly, I was in the same boat as you on the whole Jean deal. I did not like him at this point. However, looking back I realized that they are all still kids and this is their first time in combat. Mikasa being a total bad ass sort of makes you forget that, but pretty much all of them were frozen in fear and Jean still had the nerve to speak up. He's actually very brave and if I were in his shoes, I hope that I could be as half as brave, because Titans scare the living shit out of me. Anyway, I really love your incredibly genuine reactions and I'm looking forward to watching more. Thanks React Pack! And a special thank you to Dani for all her hard work!

I absolutely hate Ellen becoming a leader.
When Ellen becomes the leader, he just emotionally rushes to death and is immediately wiped out.
Jean is more suitable for leaders.
Also, take into account the situation in this world and complain about Jean and other trainees.
IMO, Jean has all the right to get mad at the supply team for not doing their job and endangering the rest of the sodiers that needed their supplies on field.
I guess, try to put yourself in his position. Just graduated, suddenly put on the frontlines, first time to encounter titans. Of course someone would freeze from terror if they face one. But he was able to still lead his team to safety (albeit not all). Whereas with Eren, he let his emotions rule and got his team killed.
I'm sure you'll be able to understand Jean more as the series progress. Dont be too hard on him. He's not even my fave character but he's a very relatable character for me as his views are the most realistic (atleast for me).

Seriously, Jean made the right call here and he wasn't being a hypocrite. He made the only choices he could under the circumstances. Circumstances which were created by the supply team not doing their job. Jean was out doing his job while the supply team sacrificed dozens by cowering in fear. If the supply team had done their job, Jean and his team would have retreated over the wall and been safe instead of having to wait around on roof tops getting snagged by titans.
Jean uses logic rather than emotion to make his decisions. Those decisions take their emotional toll of course, but he has yet to make a wrong decision.
This isn't the type of anime where the power of friendship somehow saves everybody from a hopeless situation. This is much more gritty and realistic than that. People die and very often there is nothing that anybody else can do to stop it so they just have to stand by and watch it happen.
Jean was not questioning his leadership position because he didn't save them. He was questioning his leadership position because he didn't know if he had the strength to watch his friends die for the greater good.
Yet this is the type of anime where the character which mangaka favors the most would've been saved from many definite death flag situations.

These people so mad about Jean are the same people who watch reactions and want all of their thoughts and opinions relayed back to them by the reactor. There's no point in having a huge echo chamber where every single person thinks the exact same shit, value other people's experiences and thoughts. There's times I disagree too obviously, but that doesn't mean I comment how wrong the reactors are just because I had a different take. Now of course, its human nature to want people to agree with you and share a feeling, but when they don't, don't take it as a personal attack to you or the show. That's what will make you respond unreasonably.

It’s true Jean (and the rest that was watching) might’ve saved those guys without much casualties but he didn’t because he was afraid. He did lead most of the others to safety and took advantage of the situation. It’s also true almost none of them had to die if the supply team came with the necessary supplies needed to retreat to the wall immediately.
Why people are roasting anybody over theories with AoT and series like it I don't get. Part of the fun of series like these are the theories and talking about em. Hell I remember when it first dropped and blew up everybody everywhere had there theories that where crazy and wrong . Manga readers are still wrong and still arguing over theories with only a couple chapters left lol, people can't just let people be.
The tradition on snk reactions is basically:
Reactor says something about a character or an idea
Comments "but have you considered this..."
It happens all the time because that's even if reactor 1 says "I think they should do x as opposed to y, y doesn't make sense" the comments will be like "y actually makes sense as opposed to x wich is the option that doesn't make sense", if reactor 2 says "I think they should do y as opposed to x, x doesn't make sense" the comments will be like "x actually makes sense as opposed to y wich is the option that doesn't make sense"
I could have summarized it to "the comment section plays the devil's advocate" but that wouldn't be right given that actually both comments are not wrong
If a reactor says "jean made the right choice" (wich never happens) I'm sure they will be comments being like "wow this is first time this happens" and "I mean, did he th? their necks were exposed they could've done something kinda like in the gas station" (will probably be overshadowed by the other comments because, really, that never happens) but if it was more common that's what would happen
There's like 2 issues that people are actually devided and although I have my preferences on those issues I know both sides are not wrong (except in one of those issues)

But reading a few comments... about how you guys shouldn't "hate" on Jean... I was trying to remember how I felt about Jean initially. I think initially I didn't care about him enough to really like or hate him. I do agree with most people who explain what Jean was supposed to be as a character in these parts. He was the weak side of humanity.
But watching these episodes, i never thought you guys were hating on him. Infact it felt like a very natural criticism. He definitely was a hypocrite when he started beating those people in the HQ. So I don't even understand how or why people get so defensive with characters. Especially since its literally episode 8 of more 85 episodes to date. The show has literally started.
I've had characters that I hated initially but loved towards the end. And I think you guys would have that experience as well... Can't wait to see more of your reactions.
