Thanks for the great video. Hellschreiber is an interesting mode in that it combines the brain with the computer to decode it. The principal is similar to dot matrix printers. I wish there was more activity on this mode in fact, I wish there was more activity on any digital mode other than FT8.
Just found this video. I need to get back on the air with this mode. Haven't used it for over 10 years. Loved it back when I used it a lot. --Mark, KE6BB
I'm in, love this mode, doing alot of work on the house, now back to setting up shack. by spring of 2021 reach out and we can do a two way of this mode
Hey Eric, tried to do this already before without luck. Have been calling on 40m 7041 for half an hour from the Netherlands but unfortunately FT8 seems more active. Not entirely sure where you are located, but if possible we can try a sked? 73 and thanks for the video, PC4AD
There is a pretty decent android feld-hell app available. I have used it a couple times on 2M FM for fun. I have always wanted to do feld-hell from the field on HF.
I have never actually heard, or seen, anyone on this mode so it was nice to see how it works. I live in a condo and have no choice for antenna but to load up the gutters. They work okay but point mostly N-S and I can't run much power so I do most of my Ham radioing on digital bands. I have a Yaesu FT-757 with an FC-757 tuner. I use the line out on the 757 to an old computer line in and the phone patch input on the radio to the line out of the computer. Put the 757 in VOX and it works great. About 20 or 30 watts does pretty well. I would love to get a contact on Feld Hell sometime and since I can usually hit Florida ....? Thanks for the videos. Very informative. Dave W8DKM, Columbus Ohio
There is something interesting about this mode. I have always wanted to work someone on the air with this mode and I think I may have way back when. But, it is certainly something I am going to give another try..........just because.
There's a feld hell sprint coming up tomorrow morning US time - Google "feld hell early bird sprint" to learn more. Hoping to work some stations during this event!
Love this mode too. I usually stick to Hell club weekends when there is some action. Sometimes you need to tweak your sound interface module's delay setting to get it dialed in. Cool. AK3GR. 73.
I used to work for the German company Hell founded by the creator of Hellschreiber. So I guess I should give the mode a try thanks to your video. VK3AWA
Very good mode to use Eric =) I mostly run digital modes .... I live in an apartment without any outside antennas at all and no balcony or porch =( I have been using digital mostly for over eight years now and love it =) I use latest version of Fldigi on Linux and R Pi =) Thanks for sharing =)
I have several antenna types I use here at the apartment complex =) From what you see from the Avatar picture is a Outbacker "Perth" on a old camera tripod ... either on a picnic table at the park or the grass space between my parking spot and the building front foyer =) I have a High Sierra screwdriver antenna mounted in the driver side veery back corner of the bed of my truck =) The next type antenna is a SGC-239 antenna coupler feeding a 88 foot long 5 foot X five foot 1" PVC pipe LOOP frame with two "T" foot stand ( straight from the SGC online "Stealth Antennas" publication the is a free download from the SGC website ) I can setup anywhere and loads 40m to 6 m ad marginal 80m =) They have a bunch of nice ideas on antennas for the SGC antenna couplers =) I have 5,000 feet of wire antennas in the closet that I have to choice from =) Wire and PVC is a good thing =) Oh yes my first antenna was a "Joystick" antenna ( and YES IT WORKS GREAT 6m to 160m ) and it does have RFI =) I found the use of a artificial Ground is a MUST on a second floor apartment and again a 88 foot of wire rolled on a 1 1/2" PVC pipe does wonders for a ground in a VERY SAFE PLACE where not to touch or be near =) Wow for a short answer George =)
Thanks George ..... I'm try out FT-8call now renamed to JS8Call as of Monday Oct. 9th, 20118 .... really nice new sub-mode for weak signal chatting .... yes chatting in a weak signal mode ( a bit slower that PSK ; but will really dig deep on the signal to decode during a bad solar cycle when FT-8 works =) Give it a look and try when it is introduced Monday =) LINK: >> groups.io/g/js8call
Like Morse, requires your brain to do the work...its stuff like this that makes HAM fun...I just don't get why more people don't do it...oh well...73s...de...AC3FB...

Can you do a video explaining how you setup HRD to use Hellschreiber? That would be AWESOME. I guess I'll be looking into that when I get home.

Used it a few times and also part of the Feld Hell club #31183 member.
BTW, what happened to the end of the video? It just cut off.

Dear Pat I am in a similar situation. What antenna set up do you have?

I love hellschreiber too, but never hear anyone around on that mode..
Kinda off topic, but, this TH-cam channel and "SignalSearch" are my favorite two channels. Anyone know what happened to "SignalSearch"?
Not sure. How long has it been?
An interesting mode
