About Martian Successor Nadesico:

It is kind of sad that Nadesico never received a proper sequel. It's even sadder that Yurika's English VA, Jennifer K. Earhart, retired after ADV dubbed Prince of Darkness.

Yep. It was originally planned as a multi-media series, and while Japan got at least some of it, the West only got the anime and movie. There was supposed to be a trilogy of movies and a video game, but only one movie (that bombed) and the video game that covers the 3 year time gap between TV series and movie were ever released.
Techincally it's a cliff hanger leading into the Sega Saturn game "Martian Successor Nadesico: The Blank of Three Years", which fills in the gaps between the end of the series and Prince of Darkness

but that movie sucked. It was meant to be a trilogy in the first place and not that rushed garbage.
They sort of did.....as a Sega Saturn game (Kidou Senkan Nadesico: The Blank of 3 Years; not to be confused with the dating sim "Kidou Senkan Nadesico ~Yappari Saigo wa "Ai ga Katsu" ?~"), then The Prince of Darkness movie afterwards, and then a Sega Dreamcast SRPG game (Kidou Senkan Nadesico: Nadesico the Mission). But yeah, Nadesico 2 being named dropped and then announced it was canceled in that same infamous announcement was definitely heartbreaking. :(

It's an affectionate parody of mecha sci-fi, and sci-fi in general, so there are lots of references. I mean, the uniforms themselves are references to _Star Trek: The Next Generation_ .

@@Uldihaa In episode 12, when they're walking through a storage room, you see an "Enterprise" model kit on a pile of boxes (although doesn't actually say "Enterprise" on it). "Dirty Pair" has a few Star Trek references as well.
