I love how quiet everything gets when theres snow
Yes, it absorbs all the sounds. It can be creepy f you’re not used to it.
I agree! I´ve often had that feeling too!

Get ready for the melt! Clear you terrace drains and street drain covers to allow melt to run off. Good luck from Calgary, Canada.
Lolol I didn’t see your post. I basically warned them about getting that snow off. Lol Fellow Canadian here on Vancouver Island.
Calgarian here in Madrid. It's going to be tricky when it melts. We still have low temperatures the rest of the week, so the possibility of black ice is huge. 🤦If I only I had a shovel...
@@MissVioletaOrange Calgarian here. No shovel. I feel for you.
Thanks for the tip. Currently stuck in a small town 20 mins of Madrid city.
It wont fully melt for atleast 4 more days cuz its cold
As A Canadian who worked in Madrid and spent 4 Christmas's there in the 90's I can see that you have your work cut out for you in the days ahead. Here we are use to that much snow getting dumped on us more frequently throughout the winter and we are more prepared to handle it, but there in Madrid, not so much. But I know you Spainards are strong people and you will prevail. Best of luck and Dios te bendiga y Espana
In the north of Spain we are used to that, specially near our mountains.
@@pericodelospalotes5738 Yes Perico, I remember when I was working there in 94, we were building a house for a man who owned 2 husky dogs that he would take to the north on weekends and go dog sledding. What a beautiful country. So rich in culture and beauty

I spent a winter in Madrid in the 80s. It was cold as, ice over the ponds in the parks, then rain. Lot of people are amazed when I say it gets cold in Madid, but was never anything like this. Thanks for posting.
Madrid elevation 667 meters.
What a pity, all those branches and whole trees that have collapsed under the weight! The abundance of trees in almost every street is one of the many beautiful things of Madrid.
This is just absolutely beautiful. People in Madrid will certainly remember this for decades to come. This is some of the most remarkable snowfall in a city I’ve ever seen. Really wish we could have this in the UK annually.
Hi everyone! I live in the northern part of Poland at the Baltic seaside. Now is +3 C, no snow. Last winter we didn't have snow at all. I know, that in the nothern part of Spain snow is it not something special.. but in Madrid?? It's crazy!
The funniest thing is the stereotypes. For example, we in Poland are thinking, that people in Spain never seen snow. And you are thinking, that in Poland is so cold, that here lives white bears! Meanwhile in Poland almost every summer we have Spanish heats (34-36 C) and you in Madrid have heavy snow :-)
Regards from Poland! Me and my wife love Spain! It is our second home. We have been in your country on holidays many times. Last time in march 2020, when the lockdown in Spain and Poland got started. We hope that we come back in this year. See you soon!
@@GodFirst7479 I don't remember the last time I saw white Christmas in Poland. Decades ago that was the norm. The only chance for such views is a trip to the Polish mountains. There is snow every year.
In summer, however, more and more often we have Spanish heats. Poles buy air conditioners. Polish rivers are drying up, we have a dramatically low water level in rivers and lakes. And in Madrid plenty of snow! I think something is really going on with the climate. Greetings from the Polish coast!
Madrid is part of northern Spain, being Toledo the geographical center just at the south. It is not crazy at all to find snow in Madrid. It happens every winter mainly in the mountains and the snow lasts the whole winter.
@@fernandoneirapaz Thanks for the clarification! Northern Spain for me was the Pyrenees, Basque country, maybe Galicia. In Basque country you have simillar climate and temperatures as in Poland, especially in western Poland. Similliar species of trees, plants and mushrooms. We in Poland call this "Atlantic climate".
@@peteblack4998 I think of Poland as having cloudy climate more than snowy climate, am I right?
I'm Welsh and it rains, rains and rains here;)
@@organicfarm5524 Now it's +2/3 C. Wet, gray and gloomy. Awful weather. Plus this fuc***g lockdown.
I like a little frost, but we haven't had normal winters for years. I love the weather in Poland from April to the end of October. Lots of sunny days and warm, sometimes very hot. But from November to the end of March I would like to emigrate from Poland. Typically English winters. Cloudy, cloudy and cloudy..
Hello from the United States! This is not an unfamiliar sight for me as I live in the state of Minnesota, which we call MinneSNOWta! What a sight for Madrid though! Stay safe and warm!
fantastic! So glad to have your eyes in Madrid for us. I'm sad for the broken trees and hope everyone is safe. But meanwhile, it is very beautiful! And the perfect texture of snow. (not all snow is the same!) gracias!
It looks lovely. We haven't had any serious snow in Warsaw for many years now. We miss it a bit. Good luck and stay safe! And if you need anything to get done these days, that requires driving, ask the Polish people :)
p
Haha good tip ;)
@Jan Nowak Why so serious?
I need to drive tomorrow Magdalena, 120 km south to a dry location. The streets in Madrid seem clear in spite of the huge amount of ice still with us. Any advice?
Where I live in northern New York State, this is a storm that happens a few times a winter. We have all kinds of equipment to deal with it, so this would be cleaned up in a day. I think our trees are heartier. For a storm this size they would not collapse as these did. Good luck getting these streets cleaned up.
Fair points: That said, the restaurants in northern NYS are probably not nearly as good as what you might expect to find in Madrid (Madrid, Spain, that is: not Madrid, New York). Every region of the world presents its advantages and disadvantages.
Well and in Spain happens once in 60 years,so....
@@jaak4285
This amount of snow is not normal in the city of Madrid, but it is not unusual in many parts of the province of Madrid and in other cities in northern Spain. In Salamanca, Segovia, Burgos, Vitoria, Soria, Avila, Teruel, Leon, etc. it is common to see some of these snowfalls in winter or even greater.

If the snow partially melts, it may re-freeze when temperatures go down again immediately after over night. Please, be careful with the ice. It is not fun. If possible, get rid of the snow/ice as it adds substantial weight to your terrace. Espero que tengan suficiente guarnición en casa. Yes, I get a cave-mentality when it snows.

I'm used to snow like this but I am enjoying watching those in Spain who enjoy it.
Thank you for the video! The snow in Madrid today gave my Spanish friends, Spain friends (American ones I met in Spain), and I something to connect over. Even though this California girl now lives in New Jersey, I'm still in awe of the snow fall there. I'm pretty sure you've gotten more snow in one night, than we have gotten here all winter!

Snowpocalypse. I lived in Seattle when this happened a few years ago -- at the top of a steep hill. The entire city was paralysed for days.
@Bob Woods Ugh -- that's brutal. ☹
In a place with terrain like Seattle's and no infrastructure to deal with more than an inch or two of snow, there's no option other than to shut down. I was lucky enough to live directly across the street from a market, and within slogging distance of other services, including medical, if needed, but supplies began to run low with deliveries being impossible, and staff couldn't get to work.
There's a famous photo of a charter bus hanging off a retaining wall over the freeway after it slid for blocks down the very hill I lived on. It was a miracle no-one died.
@@AntheaRutherford That is Seattle snow in a nutshell.
I remember that in Seattle.
I saw that online. Must have been a trip! I would have loved to have been there. Great day for a nice, hot bowl of Cocido!

Hello from Montréal Canada! Here, there is almost no snow for the moment, it is a strange winter! More snow in Madrid than Montréal! Glad you enjoyed it and hope to do a Devour Tours in San Sebastian next summer ! I really need it! Cuidate!

More than in Ottawa as well.
Thank God - You have HOCKEY DE CLUB !
Geographically Canada and Spain are almost at the same latitude, the only factor which changes all is the warm water stream coming from the Gulf of Mexico to Europe. Melted ice from the poles slow that warm stream and... voilá! The latitude! Greetings from Pamplona, near to San Sebastián.
I’ve never been to Spain, I would love to go there someday, my great grandparents were from there. Just seeing all that snow is so pretty and I’m sure really cold! Please be careful if you have to go out again. When it melts, it could be a flooding around there. I’m in central California, we have several Basque restaurants in my city that are so popular with the community. Living in California, there’s always a drought unfortunately, we usually drive up to the mountains to be around snow, or go to another state like, Idaho, Utah or Wyoming, to be in the snow. If things go well, my husband and I will be on a road trip to a couple of states to go skiing and maybe even a sleigh ride! Be safe over there! 💖😁
Unbelievably cool, this video is pure gold. I am truly grateful to you both for sharing this experience with us. The snow will eventually melt but, the story will live on for quite a while. Merry 2020 part 2 😉
Its really unbelivible .....! I love Madrid, and I can imagine how beautiful it must be with the snow even if there was for sure many problems because of it. Thanks for sharing, many greetings from Greece.!
I live in Minnesota and this would still be a lot for us! Beautiful!
I love Spain so much!!
That's one hell of a weight of snow on your terrace . Make sure you clear the drains ready for the melt , and check for structural damage . Your plants will probably be ok under the snow , believe it or not it kind of protects them , it will be the frost and cold at night that will kill them if they are cleared of snow . That said Madrid looks amazing , especially the trees , and it' was so kind of the lady to be shopping for her elderly neighbours in all that snow . Stay safe and well
We haven't seen snow like this in Ayrshire in Scotland for years never mind Spain !!!
Snow (contrary to popular believe is common in Spain) but this snow seems like Rusia and that huge thing is not Normal xD
Ayrshire totally missed beast of the east... 2018. We're Renfrewshire and it was worse than this!!
I've been snowboarding on my street today! Amazing! 😂😂😂
It all looked strange and magical until I saw how much snow you have on your terrace. I am not sure if Spanish building codes take into account this much snow accumulation. The snow can get very heavy (especially when it gets wet) and lead to leaks or even structural collapse. You showed what it did to the trees on the street. You may want to grab a shovel and dump some of it down to the street. Melting in the bathtub is also an option ;)
I live in Michigan, where this is somewhat common, but en Madrid, nunca!
You two are such characters, so funny. :) All your vids are surrounded by this heartwarming positive eneregy, thank you for uploading.
Hope I get to visit Madrid one day. Cheers, hope the snow doesn't affect the city too negatively
That snowman looks like an interpretation of Edvard Munch's painting The Scream. 👻 ⛄
haha yes -- not my finest work
Mini Matterhorn, a Madridhorn.
Rooooll the three pieces (and clear a path on the terrace at the same time). If it lasts, take a metal baking tray, find a hill, and go sledding!
I haven't seen snow in almost twenty years. That is is so beautiful and exciting. Send some snow my way. I see the people out into the streets and seem to be enjoying the moment. I appreciate you for sharing your Madrid snow experience.
Hello Destiny
You in spain got huge snow and here in Slovakia only rain and mud since december and temperatures at +. Only in mountains is snow.
Not boring at all! I can't believe it. I was in Madrid 1 year and two weeks ago. This is incredible.
We haven't had snow like that for ages in holland.
Enjoy!
Holland is just o below sea level. Madrid is 670 metres above sea level. Although I'ts not something common to see the snow set like this in Madrid City because of the "urban heat island", Spain is a very hilly country, in the rest of the center of Spain (roughly at the same altitude) and of course in montain ranges It's common to have at least one or two big snow storm at a year. But this one has been obviously the greatest in 50 years.
This will be WELL REMEMBERED at HEAT WAVE 2021 - Enjoy - Till The Sun comes Out !
So is it The Netherlands or Holland?

I lived in Wales and saw similar amounts of snow a few times, one time I got caught out by a blizzard and had to leave the car. What is shocking about the Madrid snow is that a lot of the trees are not used to the weight of the snow and just collapse, I hope that the damage to the trees is not fatal and that they mostly recover. Enjoy it while it is there and get as many photos as you can, you may not see snow like that again in Madrid.
Looks like the snow at my house in Norway. Enjoy it guys!

Building a snowman: Roll three snow balls from large to small in diameter and stack. Simple.
Huh so thats how you do it, I just made a mountain and put the snowball on top of it. The more you know

Yep! Simple! And the nose should be a carrot or a large button. The eyes can be black rocks, coal or buttons. People are ofttimes inventive with the mouth, but usually use small pebbles.
Thank you for the lesson, people for centuries, have been doing it all wrong I guess. It doesn’t need to be perfect since it’s all in fun. That simple.
I'm surprised to see more snow there than here in Quebec 👋😜🇨🇦
Ow man it looks so beautiful! I remember back in the early 2000's when I was a child, we used to go sleighing, snowball fighting, we were walking deep in the snow and watched the street lights sparkle on its surface in the night. Now there's literally nothing. I don't think there has been a single 24-hour day of snow in winter for like 8 years. It makes me so sad. :(
Stay safe, we had double of that snow upstate New York a month ago. Lovely when it falls down and annoying for a few days after with all the cleaning, limited parking.

Madrid city altitude goes from 575 meters above sea level by the river area to 745m in the North and Northeast part of the city. In fact, those higher areas were hit by more than 25 inches of snow.
It had been very cold for the previous two weeks and a massive amount of moisture came from the Ocean and clashed in the middle of Spain where Madrid sits pretty cold all winter. That created the perfect conditions for a blizzard.
Wow, this looks like an adventure! Have fun and stay safe ❄ On that note, I strongly encourage you to clear of the snow from your terrace. When it melts, there will be A LOT of water. Which can cause damage. If it freezes before it all melts, your entire terrace will be frozen. Also, the impact of the weight of that much snow to the structure of your terrace could cause serious damage. I live in Norway. And even here, where all bulidings are built for snow, we still need to clear it off. Hugs and love from Sandefjord, Norway.
Agreed! But where does one put the snow??
@@catherinemori4539 You can put it on your bathtub...for example.
Over the edge, depending on what's below. The city streets have drains, your terrace doesn't

Great video, really enjoyed seeing Madrid like this.
Shovel the snow off your terrace before it rains. Snow can hold an amazing amount of water and I doubt your building codes pay much attention to snow load issues....
Most if them seem to be doing just fine for the moment but yes, they should try to clear the terrace a little bit.
As a building engineer and architect in Spain, I can assure you that Spanish regulations require that all houses be calculated with a minimum snow load of 1KN / m² multiplied by a safety coefficient of 1.5. To this must be added the normal use overload of 2 KN / m²x1.5.
In other words, for a terrace in Madrid to collapse, a load greater than 3x1.5 = 4.5 KN / m² (= 458.87kg / m²) is needed, that is equivalent to more than 2 m of frozen snow. (approximate weight of recently fallen snow = 120kg / m³, approximate weight of frozen snow = 200kg / m³).
Obviously the numbers are higher if you go further north or the altitude increases. In Spain it snows every year, the engineers do not calculate the houses so that they fall every 20 years.
It´s true that in these snowfalls there is always some collapse in old or poorly maintained buildings, as happens anywhere in the world where it snows and it's dangerous. Anyway thanks for your advice, it's good that people know these things.
Hey guys, enjoy the winter wonderland. As long as the temp stays mild you're ok. If it freezes it's a whole different ball game. I'm from Canada, believe me I know! Recuerdos

You have the same problem as the UK. Because snow is so infrequent, no money is spent on measures to cope and so we are always unprepared.

Good to see you two still making the most of what you can actually get to do.
Really looking forward to the Madrid Wine Country video.
The Madrid wine country video keeps getting delayed due to travel restrictions -- but it will happen!
I am used to snow, but I will ever see it as normal! It is definitely magic! It actually calms everyone, everything and even sound down🥺❄️🌨
Ну что теперь вам понятно как жить в Сибири. У нас это норма. И не чего!, привыкли) всем добра. Главное без паники. Все будет хорошо.
Los quiero mucho!
Omg!! That’s insane!!! Thanks for sharing!
Its so beautiful and normal for my country. You Spanish enjoy the snow while you can.
How happened that?? In Greece this winter is hottest that we ever had and in Spain is the coldest winter that you ever had!
No snow in Poland even and Uk-I am jealous
Not the coldest. There had been colder ones but so much snow, I've never seen it in Madrid in my whole life. I have seen some heavy snow storms in the past, in 2010, for example we got about 10-20cm of snow that lasted a couple of days...but half a metre and 30 hours non stop followed by days of freezing weather, never happened. In the north of Spain we get this kind of weather and worse but it's really a first for Madrid, Toledo and many other cities in the center.
Hi guys!! Thank you for sharing. Madrid looks like a beautiful winter wonderland. Stay safe and enjoy the snow. Hugs. ❄️ ⛄️ 🙂
Excellent Video : Are there any snow plow equipment in Spain ? In Quebec Canada this would have been cleared away , sanded and salted ..... 🇨🇦🚜🚚🚑🚒🚎🚌🚙🚕🚗
Yes I agree with the comment from Calgary. Clear off as much as possible before it melts and causes flooding. Good luck! ☃️
Not a bad snowman James and the city looks beautiful with the snow.
It looks magical
