I think i recognise Your dads plane. Is it an OMP Hobby T720 ?
The locking mechanism for the wings seems to be a weak point. I have the faster brother to this plane - the OMP Hobby S720.
I managed to rip a wing of twice. First the plastic latch broke when coming out of a steep fast dive and the wing was torn off midair.
The second time i managed to snap the whole plastic spar on one side - but that was after a crash so that one is on me.
Honestly i think the T720 would be a better choice for me (a beginner), because i imagine its a bit slower. The S720 is fast, but sometimes just too fast for its own good, as in folding its wings in flight. Also speed doesn't make learning easier. I just chose the S720 because it looked cooler that the T720. ;)
Moved on since then to other planes, but i have lots of good memories, it was a fun plane.

Thanks for watching! Unfortunately it was crushed in the box in the car on the way to the event that part got cracked and then failed about 50 feet up and took a nice dirt nap after lol

@@BuddyRC I gotta admit it Buddy.
You hit a certain string in me with that video. Them memories just keep flowing. :)
I just had to dig up that plane. Sent You a couple of pictures in an e-mail. But also figured "the almighty algorithm" would like another interaction on TH-cam. I guess that is why all the TH-camrs always ask for comments.
What i absolutely loved about that plane as a total noob - was that flat pack IKEA approach. I'd just stick 3 mostly flat boxes into my backpack and drive my bicycle around the outskirts of my city, looking for that perfect airfield.
I'd snap it all together and in a couple of minutes i was ready to fly.
6 batteries did about 30 minutes of pure flight time.
The transmitter that came in the box, did not inspire confidence, it looked like a cheap toy and the resolution on the controls was awful.
So i found a way to connect a cheapo 6 channel radio to the 'mainboard' and still keep the gyro assist. The trick is to find a radio that uses Futaba S-FHSS modulation.
So the new radio set did not change anything at all . Those little chinese servos still had horrible resolution, but at least now i had trimms on the transmitter and i didn't have to worry about range.
"Planting it" is a nice way of saying it…
In Polish we say we did a "molehill" - because the crater left by a diving plane in soft soil, resembless a molehill.
Yes i've had one 'molehill' that broke the whole fulesage in half - there is some fibreglass epoxy'd to the underside of the plane.
Instead of just byuing new wings, i drilled out the plastic struts and replaced them with a carbon tube - i lock the wings in place using steel wire pins.
New wings are just around 25 dollars, but from what i've heard repairing is supposed to be half of the fun in this hobby. ;)
I also broke one plastic strut on the horizontal stabiliser.
Overall 7 out of 10 for the model.
I chose the plane mainly because it was so perfectly foldable - but the joints turned out to be the weak points.

I think this event us better than Joe Nall.Joe Nall is too expensive and too many restrictions regarding type of aircraft being flown.
