    So, is this an official spitfire variant since it’s made by supermarine?

    • @Cuccos19

      I think only an adopted company name as the original Supermarine has long gone decades ago.

    • @julianneale6128

      The Falconer is a very unreliable engine that breaks for a pastime. Nice idea, but it just doesn't work in reality...

    • @Cuccos19
      @Cuccos19 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@julianneale6128 I'm sad to hear that... So Papa-51 Thunder Mustangs are generally unreliable because of the engine? Just asking, not saying.

    • @julianneale6128
      @julianneale6128 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Cuccos19 well I don't know about the particular aircraft you talk of, but the Falconer engine had big problems. From what I understand it was basically a V12 platform made from a V8. The engine blocks would crack and that isn't the best thing that can happen to you when flying. The original V8 is a great engine, but it wasn't originally designed as a V12...

    • @Cuccos19
      @Cuccos19 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@julianneale6128 It is an about 3/4 scale of the original North American P-51 Mustang (not an exact scale down) and have some parameters actually better than the original fighter aircraft (climb rate, cruise speed). This is the only (production) aircraft I know with the Falconer V-12 that's why I mentioned it. But I have not much knowledge about the actual engine except the parameters. So I'm glad you share this information. :)
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Papa_51_Thunder_Mustang
      Maybe a V-12 Diesel engine would be better (the Yak-152 using one like that, a German engine, called RED A03).

      @@Cuccos19 oh I remember the Thunder Mustang from 20 years ago or so, I think they were a carbon fibre airframe. I remember seeing a Falconer V12 engine at a car show. Initially it seemed a good bit of kit, but only when it was put into operation it started to show bad signs of failure. Wasn't a a Chevrolet automotive V8 with another part block weled to it to make a V12...?

    What makes it a Spitfire MK26 B ?

    • @matthewblack7206
      @matthewblack7206 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's a euphemistic and honorary name - real Spitfires only went up to Mark 24. The 80% percent kit was called the 'Mark 25' and this is the 'Mark 26 B'.

    • @enstoneflyingclub1843
      @enstoneflyingclub1843 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Both the V6 & V8 are the options as power plants for the MK26B, the both drive the propeller via a reduction drive which is belt driven, the is more information on our web site www.spitfireclub.co.uk We have 2 MK26B with the V6 fitted we think it sound pretty good.

    how much would it cost ?

    • @spitfiresimulator8347
      @spitfiresimulator8347 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why don’t you make a 100% replica

    • @enstoneflyingclub1843
      @enstoneflyingclub1843 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The principal reason for the 90% scale is manageability, two people can move this around easily, at full scale you need a tug plus a small team, the other factor is cost, we are building these with a total cost excluding labour of around £230K a 100% scale kit would cost almost £1m. At this scale many more people can get involved in ownership.
