Being able to mix competently is what really brought me to my next level

As these colours are very strong single pigments and for that reason have different consistency i tend to always add a little white or black or both when using them. last few models i have painted i have used only Kimera and i love it. If starting with a Zenital i suggest to use a'lot of glaze medium to save your pre-shade.

I used to be a paint fom the pot kinda guy, but a buddy of mine gave me a set of these cause he didn;t like mixing colors, and I haven't looked back. They are a pleasure to paint with and I love how matte they dry, which took a little getting used to.

I had the chance to try these at Adepticon last year in a class with Francesco Farabi, and I'll admit it: when I realized I'd have to mix my own fleshtones I was terrified. However, it only took about 5 minutes of playing around with colors before I figured it out and then I immediately fell in love with these paints. As Vince says, they both wetblend and glaze like a dream, and because of the pigment density, the colors are amazingly vibrant--even when working on less saturated colors. (Francesco gave the breakdown in class, and I think it was something like Kimiera is 35% pigment, while most minipaints are in the 10% range.)

Your product reviews are always the best, based on significant time spent using the product instead of a superficial pass. Thank you!

I'd be really interested in seeing a side-by-side comparison with Golden Fluid Acrylics (and High-Flow as well), Liquitex Acrylic Gouache, da Vinci Fluid Acrylics, ....

Awesome review as always, was looking for something like this! Especially since they are promoted as the paints you want to use if you want to have full control of your colours. Since the pure pigment is, to my knowledge done, so you can mix it to what you need and know which pigments are in the paints.l

Something else I will mention is that just like their HBA cousins, each paint color has different properties in terms of opacity. Oxides, Black, White all are pretty opaque. The Pthalo Blues and Green, while super tinting strong in color, are actually very translucent.

Well, well, well... When you recommended them in a Q&A they just sold out at a somewhat localish seller and haven't come back in stock, now I'm rather certain it will take even longer. On the one hand, thank you for the review, on the other "Thanks...!". :D

The suspicious person in me wonders if they're just rebranded/ rebottled high-flow artists acrylics with really good marketing.

The second basis pigment set was announced on yesterdays stream (Monte San Savino). Very excited about more single pigment colors. Was not that interested in the sets they released in-between the first one and the upcoming one. I have enough blends from Citadel, Vallejo etc as is. A helpful person in the Kimera Facebook group wrote down all the colors and corresponding pigments. AFAIK they are planning to release the set in december and will have 1500 sets available.

I really like the idea of these paints and them being pigment rich makes them extra appealing. When army painting you could do some test models where you figure out the which colors to mix and then pre-mix them (and put in a empty dropper bottle). That way you can find the exact color you like, but also have the consistency of regular paints. Do you think that makes sense Vince?

Great video and even better timing as I keep hearing about them from other painters, but I've been on the fence. I will probably pick them up (once back in stock,) but contrary to what you said in the video because I've always been an out the pot color guy. I have learned that is actually a detriment to understanding color and light and holds you back when painting. By knowing what's in the mix it allows you to alter and see the effect. All because of some good OSL and lighting effect videos. Thanks Vince!

I’ve found them as you indicate: great for those wanting to use artist pigments- they give the pigment info..bottle tops a bit messy...made by a specialist paint company and the key guy in the company is a miniature painter and artist..well done Vince.

Today I have a painting competition at my FLGS: 5 hours - 5 paints - 1 random mini… bringing the kimera red, yellow oxide, blue red shade plus liquitex heavy body white and Vallejo model colour black… wish me luck!
