God I miss this tone of the MCU. When jokes were sparring and actually funny, when the world took itself seriously. When characters weren’t campy. Love this movie
You act like creating a masterpiece with an almost 2 decade build up is easy to do, like you can just do it at will. You can’t just recreate greatness. The world has to be primed for it, and you need a team as inspired to keep recreating a great storyline that doesn’t seem repetitive. You act like Marvel stopped making quality by choice lol at the end of the day maybe they just ran out of ideas. I thought endgame was a solid ending to a solid ride, I don’t hold anything against them for putting out stuff that seems “less” than what they’ve already put out. Yeah we’re all waiting on the next great thing, but what have given was excellent. I’m tired of people making it sound like it’s easy to follow up what they did lol you can’t just recreate greatness.

I love the first movie because it showed that Tony Stark could be manipulated and controlled just like any other rich, spoiled playboy with wealthy parents. Stane was refreshing. Great villain, and great casting.

With the Avengers/crossover appearances of course, those elements took a back seat.
I like to imagine he genuinely believes it, at least in some part. He thinks he’s doing what’s best for Tony because it’s the most profitable option for the company
I hope Christine turned out okay. She really comes off as more than just a tabloid journalist, like she's trying to hold powerful entities accountable. She was trying to do good before the capes came out.

They didn't know what to do with Tony in the subsequent movies, how to show that's he's partially reformed, give him a new arc, while still keeping him the wisecracking guy from the first movie. The smart thing, in hindsight, would have been to focus in on a survivor's complex that Tony has, a desperate drive to "not waste his life". That's what's driving him in this first movie, and it's never really explored afterwards. Never felt like he got a chance to hit rock bottom of total disregard for his own safety, while Pepper and the others plead with him to stop the savior act and realize he's only one man, he can't solve everything.

They should have had an "Armor Wars" type of story where he globetrots the planet looking for stolen tech.

@@natedowns5 Western governments (and Middle Eastern ones) have no problem doing it if they get the terrs to attack countries or actors they don't like : Taliban vs Soviet, Syrian "rebels" vs Assad's Syria and Iran, Hamas vs PLO... That's why terrs will always exist, they're way too useful to the people in power...
