Good talk today. I think we, as men and providers, put a lot and more often than not too much on ourselves to do everything that we can for our families. When I get frustrated or exhausted, I remind myself that "this too shall pass" and that "I'm going to miss this." I struggle with wanting/needing to do too many things all of the time and multitasking constantly. Rarely do I have the opportunity to just sit and do one thing and relax, and when I do, the Catholic guilt hits me and I feel like I need to be doing something else. Deep breaths my friend, this too shall pass. Second, I understand how you feel about your TH-cam channel and growth and wanting to get to the point of monetization. I think a lot of people have that as a goal and TH-cam makes it very difficult ot get to that point. My guess is that very few TH-camrs in our little corner of the YT world actually make any money doing this. Maybe a $100 check a couple of times a year. But I also understand that when you set a goal to reach a certain mark, you feel like you have to reach it. Or at least, that's how it works for me. I'd say that if YT is causing frustration or causing stress, it's not worth it. Family first, always! YT is just a hobby and a way to connect with people whom you may have not otherwise met. Lots of great people out there; including yourself. Take the time to enjoy your kids and not worry about silly videos, because they grow so damn fast and even when it gets hard, you're going to miss this.
Always good to verbize these feeling. I agree with 3GoodNerds, us dads put a lot of pressure on ourselves, and very rarely take time to do something for ourselves, because we are trying to make sure everyone else is good. You can't do it all. Take care of yourself first, and then the other top priorities in your life. If TH-cam falls off, so be it. You'll still have the friends and connection regardless if you make content or not. I have to remind myself almost daily to not let things upset me that are outside of my control or are not truly important to me. It's easier said then done, put the reminders are a step in the right direction.
It is a good thing to vent and not bottle everything up. Definitely have to do what’s best for you and the family. Your physical and mental health and family come first. TH-cam can be annoying but you shouldn’t feel compelled to do a video just because. Do it because you like it and want to share something with everyone. Take time off from here it definitely helps. I certainly take time off when I feel like I’m just doing videos to do them. I hope things get better for you. 🙏. Praying for you man. Be well.
Hey, my friend. If you want to grab coffee sometime and just talk, let me know. As someone who has experienced many highs and lows persuing creative goals, know that sometimes it's OK to step away, take a break, and focus on other things that are, in the grand scheme of things, more important. It can be freeing and help you get clarity about whatever next step in your dream will make you happy and allow you to let go of frustrations and the negative stuff. Take care, be well, and I'm around if I can offer some help, even if it's a listening ear and a cup of good coffee.
