Grew up in Fort Wayne, Indiana and went to Wayne High School, class of 1975. One of my teachers was the late Walter Sassmanshausen, who was instrumental in reviving 765. I have video from 1990 of an excursion on 765 from Fort Wayne to Peru, Indiana with my wife, 5 year old son, and my late uncle. Great rememories!

Thanks to this video JD. I discovered I have the exact NKP 765 and it has a steam whistle. I have ran this MTH model for 3 or so years and never knew I could be enjoying the whistle with steam. BONUS! THANKS!

Love it! Especially the consist at the end that’s the same as what you rode on in 2013. It’s really awesome to create this entire miniature worlds in model railroading, and be able to include/recreate something from the real world that holds significance to us personally.

I grew up in Bellevue, OH and have a lot of memories of the 765 and 611 steam engines when growing up as a young kid. Got to see them both in the NS train yard back by the roundhouse when the turntable was operational. I've saw the 765 that day from Bellevue to Bucyrus that you refer to and in the Cuyahoga Valley for some excursions. My kids have ridden behind the 765 in Cuyahoga Valley. I'd like to take them to see the 611 while it is still in Pennsylvania. Love your videos and envious of your NS diesel collection. I have an 0 scale layout in Columbus, OH but have been struggling keeping the Lionel Legacy system working consistently. I've been looking for a Lionel Legacy 765 to add to my collection too:)

Went to high school in Lakewood Ohio in the late 50's. It was located right on the NKP line when they were still working steam. They used to "smoke up" the bleachers on the football field sometimes during a game. :0)

Love your video's Jason. I have the Proto 2 NKP Berkshire with the passenger car set. I got it from Muffins about 4 years ago. I resonate with what you said about steam. I saw the 3751 and 4449 in California when I was younger. When I lived in Milwaukee I watched the 261 pull into the Amtrak station. I watched with amazement and Steve Sondeman of the 261 invited me up into the cab. l climbed in and the smells and sounds blew me away. I accidentally stepped on the level for the firebox and it opened to a large screech and the heat rushed me. I was paralyzed with joy. Never forgot that day and I remember it well. Keep up the good work.

Congratulations, Jason, on snagging a model of the NKP #765 Berk with the early lettering! It's a real stunner! And thanks for relating the back stories that make each of your models so special to you! It may interest you to know that the Fort Wayne Historical Society in New Haven, IN, has a rebuilt NKP Berk #765 that operates excursion trains with the late lettering on the tender! The locomotive also has a Mars light. Just like your layout, there are 2 #765 NKP Berks in existence! In your case, the older one has the 'late lettering' and the newer one has the 'early lettering'! Quite an historical twist of fate. Glad you shared this.

The Premier O gauge model of the Nickel Plate Road #765 that MTH made in recent years looks great, although very strange they didn't have the shade on the headlight, even though their previous Premier O gauge models of it did have the shade on the headlight. I have two of MTH's HO versions of this locomotive and I'm glad I have them. The whistle sound is the same between the O gauge and HO versions of them and it is accurate to the real locomotive. However, the O gauge version has the correct bell sound unlike the HO versions since the prototype has a stationary bell. The HO version has the [incorrect] swinging bell sound from Pere Marquette #1225.
