  • 🔥Redcat Ramage Chimera (In stock now) Like the one in this video - alnk.to/28R0tRx
    The First Startup and break-in will take place right now!!!
    IN this video I go over the detailed break-in instructions as prescribed by REDCAT in the owners manual and describe the few weird things about their process, thats why I choose my own break in method instead.
    I also check the inside of the engine as it is when new with an endoscope and check out the piston and test the compression of this new engine.
    I perform two heat cycles and go over the results and my thoughts on how this starts and some other generally interesting items.
    Stay tuned for alot more on this RC soon, we are going to lay the SMACKDOWN on this one for sure!!!

    Informative video Man! Hey one thing. Those carbs have a choke. Rather than doing the slow pulls, you can use the choke. So flip the handle down pull 2 or 3 times till it tries to start then flip the handle up to open the choke, pull a couple more times it is idling. Also using the low needle to adjust the idle solely isn't correct. You should use the idle screw in conjunction with the low needle to get a good idle and have little to no low end bog from a dead stop. The bore scope was a great idea I have one, never thought to use it on my RC. Great idea checking the compression every now and then. Will give you a heads up before issues arise. Braaap On Man! Redcat Strong!!!

    Those Motors probably all come out of the same part of the state of China or same warehouse. I almost guarantee it. Now that you have three fifths scales. I just want to prove a point when one of those blows. I'll send you a working weed wacker engine. On my dime I want you to mount it and put it in there and make it work I know they're exactly the same thing I'm tired of people saying they're not. Or at least I think I have another 50cc little dirt bike engine to at least we could jump it up a few CC's and see what these trucks can really handle. Great video as always. The pull-ups with the car with awesome say strong

      hey dude!! thanks so much for watching and this comment. I agree, they do all basically stem from probably a 30-50 year old engine design used in lawn equipment and scooters back decades ago, nothing really drastically changed. I have been working on a way to stick a 50CC grass trimmer engine into here somehow. Hard part will be the clutch mounting, because those things have a very different power output system. I've also got a broken 2007 50 CC moped with a 4 stroke. Oh and BTW I've only got 2 1/5 scales, I pre-ordered the PRIMAL MT so far, but it will only get shipped at the end of august.

      These are identical to the Zenoah engines they use on Stihl, Echo, and Husqvarna's. Those engines rip when they are broken in, and they run at 50:1 gas/oil mix.
      This one and similar ones run at 25:1 and to me that's too rich. But if that's what the factory calls for then so be it.

    Love it bro ! I always wanted to get this particular 1/5 th scale model from redcat. I think it's one of the best looking 5th scale models on the market. As far as breaking in the engine I personally never had to break in any of my chainsaws, weed whackers or leaf blowers lol but I understand that the engine should be heat cycled at least 5 to 8 time's just to insure proper seating of the piston and head . But I've also ran several of my other 5th scale kits right out of the box with no break in and they still perform just fine for me so it all seems to be a gray area if you ask me ?

    • @hybrid32494
      @hybrid32494  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      hey man!! thanks for watching and this comment. I agree, there is also of gray area with the whole break in. On one side we all do it because there is no harm in that, on the other side even the original HPI baja 5b 23CC manual said that a break in period was not required. It's weird. I don't mind doing it, it's a learning process at best, you know.

    • @hybrid32494
      @hybrid32494  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      hey man, so you're 100% right this thing is slow. I've done speed testing vids and the fastest I got was 29 MPH. Which is terrible. And btw, that is with the trans gears flipped to increase the final drive ratio. On the stock gear positions it was 26 MPH at top speed. Issue is the Engine's RPM is only around 13,500, while the basic rovan 30CC hits 17,500. All about the RPM. Watch the newer vids on this car, you will see. But I love the driving style, the look and the handling. But you're basically at full throttle at all times.

  • @Chio_OB
    @Chio_OB 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Love your videos, humour and enthusiasm! The gentleman break in shirt comment made me laugh alot. One question, why are you using the low mixture screw to reduce rpm? The big silver screw underneath the mixture screws is for adjusting idle speed, not the low speed mixture screw. Only saying to help, unless its a weird sort of carburetor! Richer won't cause damage like leaning but it could carbon/coke up your plug and ports a bit. Keep up the great reviews dude!

    • @hybrid32494
      @hybrid32494  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      hey man! thanks for watching, and liking the white shirt part, LOL. You gotta be really neat wearing a white shirt and breaking in a 1/5 gas RC with oil and stuff all around, right. From what I've seen how the O'neil brothers tune their engines is they just raise the idle screw to make sure it does not die when brakes are fully applied. Then do small adjustments with the LSN until idle is fine. Basically they say the LSN is the adjustment for your idle, in small increments. So it's a combo of both.

    • @Chio_OB

      hey brotha!!! Thats a nice starter chassis, with good potential that you can always upgrade for cheap. The good thing about the traxxas models is the really easy parts availability anywhere and they all use standard electronics. You could easily stick a 30 dollar brushless system into one and get it to go twice-3 times faster.

    With this much price tag you would expect that it can go reverse. Do you think there's any mod available? I have found a pretty good reverse kit for Rovan Baja in aliexpress but not for this one.

    • @hybrid32494
      @hybrid32494  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      hey my dude, thanks for watching. I have not see any gas 1/5 scales that have reverse, but I know the optional part you are talking about. It's weird that basic nitros like a t-maxx or Traxxas revo have reverse and nobody can figure it out for these gas ones. The new PRIMAL MT truck that is common out in August which I pre-ordered has factory installed reverse. that will be great.

    • @hybrid32494
      @hybrid32494  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      it's mostly a novelty thing. You're rarely if ever going to need to use reverse on these, they are huge and usually you will have to run them in large open spaces. It's probably best to stick to basics on these, they are heavy and have alot of wheel spinning torque, better to keep it simple, you know. I'd do a speed gear upgrade, larger wheels, and lights, but thats about it I'd say. Ofcourse if you really bash it and jump it hard, you will need a while bunch of other aluminum parts.

    • @ray4493
      @ray4493 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      hybrid32494 as much as I agree with the fact of having a large area to run these, it feels like I am trying to make a piece of machinery into a car whenever I see a rc without reverse. It’s like a disability in human terms.

    NEVER use the low speed needle to set the idle! When the idle starts dropping off that means it's getting lean, and the leaner it gets the hotter it will run on the low end. Set the low speed needle until you get a smooth idle, then set the RPM's with the idle screw. It take a bit of tuning to get it right on these carbs, and it will run really good once you get it all set. And make sure you set the carb after it gets up to operating temps, not when it's cold.
    It would start easier if you use the choke when it's cold to get it fired up. Set the choke, give it a few yanks on the pull start till it tries to start, then open the choke, and pull it till it fires up. Most people make the mistake of continuing to pull it when the choke is on, and it floods the engine, and makes it that much harder to get started.
    Tygon makes a semi-clear fuel line that holds up really well.

    • @hybrid32494
      @hybrid32494  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      all terrific advice. I have not had to ever use the choke, this thing has started on the second to third pull almost always, after a good prime of the pull start. Where do you weigh in on the required break in cycles on these gas engines? There seems to be a split between people who do a break in and many who don't. I ofcourse do the break-in heat cycles. Surprisingly the HPI baja 23CC fuelie manual states that a break in period in not necessary.

    • @InTheDogHouse3DPrinting
      @InTheDogHouse3DPrinting 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@hybrid32494 Of all of the engines that I service, rebuild, and do engine replacements on, I never use a break in period. Of course they are used in different ways, so break in periods vary vastly. I always go by the manual for break in periods, and I'm not very familiar with these bigger rigs, and how they operate.
      I know if you don't properly break in a Nitro motor they generally don't last very long. But on a weedeater, chainsaw and such they operate at full throttle right out of the box. But they are built specifically for that purpose.

    • @hybrid32494
      @hybrid32494  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

In fact if you search google, TH-cam or forums for evidence that breaking in your engine resorts in better performance and reliability you won't find anything....... There is zero evidence on the whole internet that proves not breaking an engine affects performance and reliability, the original instruction manual for the 23cc Baja says break in is not required, if you look at the Zenoah engine manuals.....no where in those manuals does it say you have to break them in either. Look at my videos..... all my engines run strong and hard :D Also why are you priming it for? There's a choke....

      hey man!! you're 100% right about the 23CC Baja Fuel engine. I did find it in the manual that a break-in is not required. The only way to test this is to run two identical engines on some type of engine break in stand for a few gallons and take compression readings. Even then it would be inconclusive probably. I guess most people do it because the manuals still say to do that. I just subd you too, you got some great stuff on the 1/5 scales.
