I was once asked by a homeless person money to buy cigarettes. I said I can't give him money for something that will destroy his health even more. I asked if he needs anything else, he said no. I left without giving him.
What about people who are "career" beggars? Those who have chosen a life on the street and don't have any intention of doing anything else? I have a problem with that. They are everywhere in my city.
That's what want to know, I got sum1 coming to my door every week as if he knows me like that and I gave him all the time but I jst feel wierd now ...and he shouts my name , I dnt know how to tell him to stop.
I had the other day someone ask me for money for electricity off a beggar who isn't homeless who claims to be christian. so I said yes if you meet me ill top it up, then he said he needs to get the money to go his local shop. so I said I'll come meet you. then he said well i owe the money to someone else, so I said well I can't give you money then because how do I know you're not lying about where the money goes and then he said he doesn't lie but he did when he said first of all the money is going on electricity. thing is I've give this man money for "electricity" before. and now knowing it could be going on dishonest things hurts me. I know the bible says never turn anyone down , and it doesn't give any exceptions. but I didn't turn him down because I offered to get him whatever he needs just not pass him money. I hope the Lord doesn't see this as breaking instruction. these people just never want actual food or anything only ever money in their hands. I was once a drug addict so I know all the tricks.
We have many cases like that in my country Indonesia. Beggars doing their things yet they have so much money on them prolly more than what the givers have. I can’t choose well who I should help just by their appearance. All I hope is God sees my good intention and helps change them.
You make a great point that we should give to All who ask. But money can do more harm. Instead I suggest food, warm clothing, soap, survival kits, and MOST IMPORTANT: Bibles, and your time. Give them a gift worth more than dollar bills: The Gospel. The situation we have isn't simply dishonesty, it's hard drugs. What does a person say to the one who will take the money to buy toxic chemicals to harm themselves and keep them enslaved to sin? What do we say to people who are physically addicted to drugs and no amount of money will change the fact that their body is now depending on meth or heroin etc? Rehab centers are full of corruption, by the way. They can do even more harm because they give you more drugs, sympathy and not the tough love we need to be giving them through sharing the Gospel. Jesus' sermons aren't easy listening for those guilty of sin, but it's necessary. We all know that the withdrawals from those drugs result in violence and death. At the same time, the money that is given will only fuel their addiction. We do not want to take the chance to do evil instead of good! There is other way to make sure you are doing good and not part of the schemes. Do you think that instead of money, handing them a Bible would benefit them more? Of course. But it also needs to be explained. Because nearly (not all but most) all homeless persons I've spoken have not confessed the truth of why they are out there and do drugs. I can't with a clear conscious help them be drug addicts. They know where to go to get help but some just don't want help. We can give them the Word, sleeping bags, blankets, food, (not gift cards, because they can trade it for cash for drugs) but OUR TIME is most important. Talk to them. Don't feel all sorry for them, they need Real talk. You don't have to be rude, but a reality check is actually what is going to wake them up. These people aren't babies, they need some real truth. And sometimes the truth hurts. But it's better than essentially handing them a drug fund. Jesus fed the crowd, even though he knew only 12 (actually only 11) but he didn't hand them cash so they could go get shit faced. We need to be wise with WHAT we are giving. We need to give them the Gospel which is worth a lot more than all the money or gold on earth.
I had seen one lady in Chicago with a motorized wheelchair and a young relative begging...it didn't make me think it was honest and I walked past. If I lived in Chicago or any big city, I would try to have business cards for places that could help them. Although another case I wish I did call the police to ask about a woman literally begging with her three children to check on them. And it's dicey when they have children. Honestly, I don't know the story, if she was in trouble or not, but I wasn't equipped to handle it.
Thanks for the video bud! I give the a few people on side of road. Usually sandwiches. But I've been thinking about just doing a dollar bill here and there and let them make their own decisions and choices with it. But sometimes, I get pretty frustrated knowing that these guys are just 90% of the time just using it for drugs. I figure it's more of a compassion thing than actually trying to turn their life around thing. But your perspective is pretty good, about even giving to the outright liars. Cuz even my friends who ask for money sometimes I feel like they work me a little bit. I like the perspective thanks again.
1.st give to the brother and sister in need...its really hard to know who needs it and who doesnt. My brother give some money to gypsy beggars and we watched them they have gone to buy a ticket to bet....also I am unenployed why should i give money to ppl who maby even have more than myself...coz this days this is a buisness...so yea its hard...so Christian who struggle himself shouldnt give ppl he doesnt know...maby just buy a bread etc.
If a man won't work than a man should not eat. If a man will use it to buy drugs or alcohol I def won't give it to him either. There are much better ways to help the homeless.
paul is not at all saying that some people deserve to starve. this verse simply gives a NT echo to what we read often in proverbs, that the lazy person will have nothing at harvest and will not be able to take care of themselves. God loves and sends rain on the just and the unjust. He is not so cold-hearted to be without pity for the wretched of the earth
@@nealabbott6520 this is what I'm refering too: "For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat." 2 Thessalonians 3:10 KJV
@@jysportscardguy8935 i know the verse, but it doesn't mean what you seem to think it means. that's all i'm saying. no one deserves to starve in the eyes of God
@@nealabbott6520 no? When Scripture teaches if a man is unwilling to work that he should not eat means something else? If a man is unwilling to work and provide for his own family he is WORSE than an unbeliever is also what Scripture teaches.
@@jysportscardguy8935 i already told you, about a quarter of the book of proverbs. this does not prohibit someone from eating but warns that he will not be able to care for himself. and the verse in timothy makes my point. he has denied the faith b/c Christianity is based on generosity. Here in Rumania there are a lot of beggars and pursuing you to give them money or to buy them food, ussually womens with a babe , it's difficult to give them since here even when you work it is not easy... I recently made the mistake suggested here to give money and use as an opportunity to share the gospel. Wanna guess what happened as this mistake persisted? I think this video is made with a good heart, but there is no practicality.

Having a stash of granola bars or dried fruit in your car is always a good idea, also fast food gift cards.
