If you don´t have much money then I suggest that you might want to buy a smaller set of high-quality colors like Polychromos. The reason for this suggestion is that they have very good pigments and are rather soft, therefore you can layer them quite well (if you use a good paper) and you can achieve an astonishing amount of colors just by "mixing" them this way :-) and you can buy additional pencils from time to time so that your collection grows over the time. star You are most welcome :D! Japanese and Germans are perfectionists in quality. They dont compromise. So I would say Holbein number 1 and Faber Castell number Two. Thanks for your detailed video explanations and time.
So true. In everything that they decide to do, they do it so well. The old era of portuguese and italian people were also perfectionists unfortunally the modern world changed them a lot.
Anand Beera I have agree. Stabilo is my all time favorite for markers and pens. I do have one set of their pencils. They are hard and sturdy but not big on deep colors.
Portuguese people are still perfectionists in what they do. Shoes, woodwork and even suits for the Olympics made in Portugal are some of the best things (the list goes on but these are some things that popped on my mind). We aren't more developed because Portugal is still a poor country when compared to the rest of the Europe so it's hard to develop a brand here. I can only speak about Portugal because I'm portuguese myself. I won't speak of Italians but I do assume they still do amazing things! (I apologise for my poor English)
Wow, Holbein hasn’t allowed themselves to be ASTM tested or even Blue Wool tested and did miserably when colored pencil artist association did basically blue wool testing on them. They are oily like an oil slick and don’t play well with other pencils. I am a colored pencil artist and these are not professional artist grade quality and Holbein charges over $3 a pencil. Derwent Lightfast goes on sale frequently at Blicks Art for $2 something per pencil and they went through both tests. They were underhandedly advertised that way is my opinion because they are super duper cheap in Japan.
Susan Bauer to Southpaw Creative. Why do say do not use Holbein for colouring books? I'm about to buy a set and you gave no reason so before I make the move I'd like to know. I love colouring daily and use my 12 Pastel Holbeins that I tested first and I adore them for my colouring books. Too expensive to make a mistake if you have a good reason for the comment. Good video btw thanks. I'm an addict and have thousands of mediums and now want Holbeins😊
I say that basically an artist I would not use them for coloring books since they are so expensive. I save them for my personal art endeavors. It's up to the user of course. If you want to use them for coloring books, go for it. It's just a personal preference. They're incredibly high quality so I'd rather use them on my own creations. Thanks for watching and I hope you enjoy them!
I was interested in what the difference between all 3 would look like on paper. I would have preferred if you could have shown that in this video. Thanks
I am a just hobby artist. I took a color pencil class about 4 years ago and the instructor required prismacolor pencils. I had no idea how much nicer Faber Castell polychromos were until an artist at my local art store told me to try them. I’ve heard that Prismacolor used to be a quality pencil manufacturer, but now the pencils are not good quality. After watching this video, I’m excited to try the holbein! Thanks for the awesome video 😊
Hi there! Thank you and you’re welcome! Im happy to introduce other options to artists, and your local art store was spot on with the polychromos. Let me know what you think of the Holbein colored pencils! Enjoy!
There is no such thing as owning too many colors. Either nail polish, pencils, markers whatever. :) Oh my, those pastel colors of Holbein! I own so many pencils, ranging from cheap to expensive. But most of them are the standard types of colors you see everywhere.
The pastel colors would be the tray I would SELL on eBay ! I love the other two trays, and would buy the 150 set. maybe re-coup some of my costs. ANYONE interested for $ 150 c8.lorraine@gmail.com
Joy ce please please please tell that to my family!!! They say I have an addiction because I own 200+ nail polish colors. What should I do?!?!? I mean... I'm a nail tech!
My favorites are the polychromos they just layer so well after having used the prismas for more than 2 years and I wanted something that could layer more and the plolychromos are amazing for just that. I definitely want to try the Holbein next those pastels are unreal 😍
+KamiDel They really are! They have colors I've never seen before! You are right about the Polychromos. They are fantastic for layering and they create a lovely, soft blending effect.
All the pencils have the same look which I love, and I definitely need all of them. My favorite at the moment is the Faber Castell Polychromos set but I added the other two on my wishlist. Time to start starvi- I mean saving money.
Marianna Hurtado de Adour they suck the reason they seem for sale in the us in stores is case they won't do a toxicity report and if they don't do that I won't trust the light fast tests and also I heard there about the same a fabercastel and are almost double the price
Nate Boss The toxicity has to do with the pigments, although the same are used in professional paints, and as long as you aren't inhaling or eating them, you'll be fine! (I don't know any adults, or even kids older than about 7, that are eating pencils!)
I love the color range in the Caran D'arche. I wish that the distributors of colored pencils in general would sell packages of shades from the green, blue and purple range separately because I sometimes don't go far out of those color choices.
Ana Patrícia Barbosa They are made in Japan, are quite expensive, as they are apparently marketed in Asia, thus orders have to be handled individually, shipped separately, etc., but they are incredible!
FWIW my 150 Holbeins arrived today and wow just wow. They are absolutely fabulous. I did use them for colouring and frankly I think I'd rate them no 1 even above Polychromous and alongside Luminance but above them due to the absolutely brilliant colour range. I think I've finally finished buying up all the pencils I drool over😂.
I have this Holbein set too. They are beautiful. I say these are good for painterly approaches or laying smooth fields of color while I got Polychromos for linear drawing work since they keep a point so well
Was the Holbein or the Pablo the first ones were talking about? I love both for layers and getting that painterly effect, although Pablo's are good for getting in that fine detail. I love them all, clearly :)
I thought of all the money I shouldn't have spent on Prisma Color when I first tried Polychromos. Wow, individual personal preferences aside, these were for ME! That is, they are now my second choice... Caran d'Arch Luminance pencils are smooth but hold a point at the same time. Wax based, I haven't had a problem with wax bloom. This time, I bought a much smaller set (20)... they are SUPER expensive! Now to try Holbein, I can't wait 'til I can afford some. People think I have too many pencils, but each set differs from the other. Sometimes a small color tint that one barely notices, still different though. One of the big things si that each has their own one-of-a-kind colors that are to die for. Anyway, because each has their own characteristics, I can find a use for each brand's pencil even though the color name shown is the same. But, (Prisma Color aside), they are all a joy to use!
Jan Kimbell You can layer & blend, and get just about (& perhaps) any color imaginable with these. a little turpentine, or blending solution, and you can make anything with even the smaller sets, although a tad easier to have more colors! (Who wouldn't want them all?)
I prefer Crayola over Rose art, they blend well with prisma. I use prisma verithin, regular prisma and prisma premier, depending on what I am illustrating.
oh my god, youre my soulmate! I just bought the polychromos, after using the pablos for the past 10 years or so, AND i also just bought the pastel holbeins.
I’ve just discovered Holbien pencils and I am shocked they are not talked about as much as Prisma colour or polychromous, I love the look to these pencils and I really want to purchase a 12 set to get used to these pencils thank you for this review!
+Lisa Tennant I believe Holbein are high quality across the board with their products! I just picked up some of their tube watercolors tonight. Thank you for watching!
I bought a set of Holbein's on your recommendation.. BEST EVER! You are absolutely right about the layering thing, I can layer on and on till I am satisfied. THANK YOU!! Muah 💝😘
I feel that, one advantage of using cp is - i could concentrate on details. After using holbein to make 3-4 layers, i feel difficult to further using another color to draw details or clear lines on top of that. Dont know if this happened on other brands. Another shortcome is - i can only use holbrin liquid blender. No other choose. After applying the liquid blender and wait til it dry. Its even harder to draw further layers or details on it. I love these fabulous color and hope to find solutions.
This video is the main reason I bought Holbein. I have had them for 2 months and I color nearly every day with them. Luminance is my top favorite but Holbein is number 2. LOVE them both
@@VintageMemory if you live in the USA, then they have been banned from sale, you can't import them yourself either, this is due to the high cadmium leave in the colours.
My favorite pencils are Koh-I-Noor Progresso woodless. They have fewer colors, (I haven't found more than 48), but the quality is excellent in both the colored and graphite sets, and the price is reasonable.
Thank you for the video, I am a coloured Pencil artist and I use Derwent Procolour and Coloursoft also Faber Castel polychrome pencils, most of the art I produce is stilllife and may be some landscape.
+Kate The Sleepy Teacher Yes I have! I actually owned a set of them for a while, but had ran into a financial bind, so I had to sacrifice them to the wonderful world of eBay. 😔They were gorgeous and had absolutely no wax bloom. I used them on top of a griddle on the lowest setting to warm the wax and the pigment. It was wonderful. I only wish they had more colors.
Thank you! I have found these work best on artist quality paper. This includes: Strathmore Mix Media & Colored Pencil Paper (the brown cover), Stonehenge paper, Canson or Strathmore Bristol Smooth paper, and I hear that Bee paper company has some wonderful options as well.
Hi Southpaw! Ever since I saw the Holbein colored pencils on Amazon, I fell in love with them! Especially those pastels! Later this year I'm gonna save up my money to buy the 150 set! 😍
+Katlyn Kleszynski Hi Katlyn! Thank you for watching and I just know you'll enjoy those pencils. Having that color selection and quality will bring you plenty of inspiration.
Since i started watching art videos on youtube, I AM ALREADY ADDICTED TO ART SUPPLIES DOESN'T MATTER IF ITS: WATERCOLORS, MARKERS OR EVEN CHARCOAL PENCILS! But sadly, I CAN'T............ draw. XD like ifur just like me. I will be happy to have someone by my side.😊 have a great day!
I have never used the Caran d'Ache Pablo or Holbein pencils but Polycromos are one of my favorite pencils. But for me, the best pencils that I have never tried are luminance. They are frightfully expensive but the result is just awesome!! Thaks for this review.
I have the fabel castell sett with 120 and 36 pencils and i really love them! They are amasing to draw with and they are so soft so they are easy to smudge out and i love it!
I just got the 60 polychromos set and I so love them already. For years I've had Caran D'arche aquarelle pencils but now I just wanted something better and way more colors. But I am really hooked on getting some Inktense pencils too, but they dont compare to regular color pencils. But they may work great together.
+Linda Tjagvad Kristiansen I love inktense, although they're an entirely different beast than colored pencils. The polychromos are definitely one of the highest quality pencils you can get! Hope you enjoy them :)
I got the 150 set of Holbien found on ebay, came from Japan, Oh those subdued lights-pastels and subdued colors (not just all bright) and the soft white coverage wins over all. I got them upon seeing an actual light fast test that someone posted where the samples of all 150 was placed in direct sun light with black tape over one side for comparison, Holbein's light-fast ratings are right on! You are right, this is investment in making Art, not recommended to spend this kind of money for a coloring book.
Just wondering why Holbein is not for colouring? I just ordered pastels 12 to start. I have Luminance, Caram D'Ache Museum, Polychromos, Albrecht Durer, Derwent Inktense and 3 other Derwents but they don't rate alongside Inktense for great colouring results and Prismas. I actually have well over 1000 pencils not including markers or gels because I'm addicted but those I've specifically mentioned are my favourites. I was fortunate that my Prismas have not broken as they were a risk but in the end I wanted every brand I could get.. The glory of smooth pencils like Polys and Durers and Caran D'Ache just give me goosebumps.😜 Thanks for the review. Loved it and those Holbeins are surreal but damn they're expensive. One day that set will come home too😉 At least 12 are coming as eBay has a voucher for Sept 10th. Spend over $50AUD and you get AUD$20 back so I took the opportunity to get those 12 glorious pastel Holbeins. Sorry I do carry on a lot.🙄
Hi! To clarify, I meant that I wouldn't use to Holbeins personally for a coloring book or something like that - just my serious/professional work because they're so expensive and the open stock aren't sold here in the US. I know what you mean! I have sooo many art supplies including pencils - vintage colored pencils, polys, Pablo's, holbein, Albrecht durer, art grip, inktense, graphitint, tricolour, etc etc. You'll see more of that here on this channel!
Hi Dana Yes I use them for colouring mainly actually mostly for colouring and I use different pencils for different books depending on the paper. I am home due to illness so I don't work and I colour about 6 hours daily to help me stay sane...lol. If you are like me maybe you use pencils depending on your mood. One day I feel like Prismas, another Polys etc and other days I use all of them :)).along with gel pens and markers and Pitt pens.
Dana Hilldale Hi again Dana.Sorry I don't know how to contact you and I have been away too. As you might have read I now have Holbeins too and still love all my colouring and I use the pencils my mood feels like using on any given day or mix and match them even. Hope you're still loving your colouring too😊
I have the "Felissimo Color Museum" and I can't bring myself to use them anymore after trying out each one of them in a Swatch Test Journal. To me, it looked better for interior design purposes than actual artistic use (but that's me) Thank you so much for this video. It gave me a great idea on what colored pencils to buy for use on the art department. I would definitely go for the Holbein since I lean more on Japanese companies myself.
Thank you so much! I'm so happy you found it useful! It sounds like the "Felissimo Color Museum" is awesome! I love the Japanese art supply companies as well.
I would probably recommend either the Pablo's because they can be sharpened to a fine point and get smooth coverage or the Bruynzeel pencils from Holland. They're a great alternative to Prismacolor.
I got the Holbein 150 set that is truly wonderful and most are very light fast. By now in 2020 Holbein has stopped making colored pencils, thus no longer available except someone selling a set bought before the lock down.
Great video and info, thanks for that well-put together comparison. Why wasn't prismacolor compared? I have some, but haven't tried them yet. Please let me know where they fall in your comparison.
+Leah Allen Thank you and I'm glad you found the video useful! I no longer use Prismacolor unless they are from the late 90's or earlier. The newer ones within the last few years have gone down in quality control and perform sub par to my old ones.
Finally I own all of them, and I am definitely loving all three. You know when you have 3 kids and don't know which to choose because you love them all? Lol. That's how I am with Polychromos, Holbein and Pablos. Polys layer the best (in my opinion), Holbein are the most beautiful, and Pablos are best for detail. Cons for them: Polychromos don't have many pastel shades, Holbein can break when sharpened because they are softer, and Pablos don't have enough reds. That is my opinion! 💖
I completely understand and I completely agree with you! That’s why I found it essential to have all 3. Other colored pencil sets I could part with, but not those 3!
yeah, i agree. i have both berol prismcolor and faber ones, and i think they are both useful because they are different, and i can do different artwork with both...
the price of holbein, is more than enough to buy caran d'ache luminance(+ a small set of polychromos) at black friday in amazon. holbein is in good quality & lightfast is good. I love them insist making quality pencil in Japan but not move to china. although it make high cost Well, luminance can be use on black paper, paper type smooth/ having tooth-ok. holbein need more skill to work on black /smooth paper as color too translucent. If the paper is smooth, it cant hold all those black pigment. Then make the black not black enough. I press hard with both lamp black and black, still didnt black enough. It didnt happen when i use prisma or caran dache suprasoft. I didnt try polychromos, but we know that it wont happen on polychromos.
In my opinion, i have used and tested many brands but i must say since i started coloring like 3 years ago, I have never come across very cheap under $10 and high quality pencils like Mcpinty watercolor ones!
I am wondering why Prismacolor wasn't included. I realize they are not quite as expensive but they are a nice pencil. I have them and polychromous. I don't have the polychromos yet as they are a Christmas present. I like the Holbein but they are much too expensive for me. I would love to try them but I can't afford them. Period, Disability will not allow and if I did buy the smaller set, I would never be happy if I couldn't get them all. So I guess I will have to stay with the polychromos once I get them. All the best and thanks for the information.. There are many things I can't afford so don't feel bad. I will always do the best I can for whatever I can afford. Thanks again. Sean
Sean Mooney Its because Prismacolors (some of them at least, I'm pretty sure that it's better nowadays) have quality control issues. Many artists can tell you more, but to sum it up, they break way to easily. You probably have a newer set, so the issues have gone down, buts they're just way to fragile for many artists. Also, 2/3 of the Prismacolors are not lightfast, which lowers the quality for artists as well.
Sean Mooney I used to use prismacolors. 15 years ago they were awesome, I never thought I would use another brand, but now they break way too easy. I've wasted entire pencils just trying to sharpen them. They'll try and tell you it's because of the soft lead, but it's not. They never broke on me until about 7 years ago.
catsintexas you know they got rid of their quality control right¿ they're pretty cool but made so cheap and so defective sometimes, it's a good thing they're not expensive.
8 ปีที่แล้ว +2
huh. this would explain why 1 out of every 3 of my colored pencils, sometimes break up when I try to re sharpen dull points.
It was said that some of these pencils have an off-center core ever since they lost some quality control. That was why they kept breaking. I don't think using a certain type of sharpener will solve all of those problems.
It’s really hard to choose because I love them all for different reasons. I’m going to favor Fabre-Castell right now because they have a bonus of being open stock in stores and online if the artist runs out of a pencil.
I would love to own the Holbeins but could never afford them. The tray with all the pastels is to die for. Even though I own full sets of both Prismacolor Premier and FC Polycromos, the pastels are the one thing that's really lacking. Thank you for the review.
I’ve not tried the Holbein pencils for obvious reasons(availability) but I’m liking Polychromos and Luminance pencils. They’re good quality and lay down well.
Since I live in Japan I can get the Holbein pencils cheaper. 😜 And they’re available right down the street at my local art store! (Sorry for bragging, but those pencils are a dream to work with!)
+The Cake Suga Threw At Namjoons Face In Spring Day Yes! And they are worth every penny. There are colors in that set that cannot be found anywhere else, especially the pastels.
Polychromos are not an alternative to prismacolor. Rather the other way round, as both the price and the brand's reputation indicates. The Holbein pastels are mind blowing!
+lotopauanka z. These are not facts, but opinions. Whether you believe in a brand being superior to another is based on opinion, experience, and performance. I believe Polychromos are a great option for those who are tired of having issues with Prismacolor. I believe they are manufactured with better quality ingredients and care, and they have performed far superior to what I've experienced in recent years with Prismacolors. Yep, the holbein pastels are pretty amazing to work with. They are great experimenting with when you want an uncommon highlight on skin tone and in layering in general.
Southpaw Creative Arts well, the price and longevity (over 250yrs for fc and less than 80 yrs for pc) of the brand are facts to me... of course people can have different opinions on the same product, but I think it was just phrased poorly. Nobody says shminke is an alternative to whatever other brand or that COPIC markers are alternative to pro markers etc.
Prismacolors are only good for getting some of the lighter unique colors in open stock. And maybe the black too. The soft core black Prismacolor is still a fair beast to behold when you want to paint with it and just grind it into a nub in no time. But still waxy, of course. I'm so glad I only spent small money on the Prismacolor soft-core and Verithin Manga mix pack before going full-throttle and getting the entire Polychromos set. Saved me a lot of money if I had bought the entire Prisma set first. Prismas are garbage now. I even threw out the formerly-interesting Verithins after Irojiten hit the market and blew Verithins out of the water. Bye bye Prismacolor, it's been fun... but the times... they are a-changing ... Oil-based pencils are not particularly renowned for having very opaque light colors, and that's just because of the blendability and layering potential of their being oil-based. But fuck that, if you're just going for some of the open-stock lighter colors for their opacity and softness, go straight to the Caran d'Ache Luminance or Derwent Drawing (not Coloursoft) instead of Prismacolor. That Derwent Chinese White and Luminance Buff Titanium won't let you down, no sir. Now these Holbien ... those pastel colors had me drooling. Unique colors like that are why I got the whole Irojiten set (not impressed with the florescent set though, but wasn't surprised since I've never seen a fluorescent colored pencil I actually liked). I guess I know what I'm getting at my next art splurge... And Copics are an alternative to Promarkers. Copic's only advantage is their wide color palette ... well lol, that's Prismacolor's only advantage too, isn't that a funny coincidence. Side by side testing has demonstrated that Promarkers, especially their Brushmarkers, have better quality ink and more uniform color - the Copic inks like to leave little speckles of white for some reason. But nope, Promarkers give you solid coverage. The Promarkers perform better than Copics even on Copic's own paper. The downside is that they are ugly fucking markers, but your painting can't tell people how cool your markers look so it doesn't matter.
does anybody else love looking at all these beautiful, expensive sets of pencils and wish they owned all of them
I do lmao
Yaaassss
Whatdoyou - Yep! Already budgeting. I'm sold!
I so want caran d ache. I have only polychromos 12 set.

man i wish i had enough money to buy all types of fancy colored pencils
If you don´t have much money then I suggest that you might want to buy a smaller set of high-quality colors like Polychromos. The reason for this suggestion is that they have very good pigments and are rather soft, therefore you can layer them quite well (if you use a good paper) and you can achieve an astonishing amount of colors just by "mixing" them this way :-) and you can buy additional pencils from time to time so that your collection grows over the time. Oh my I like the other two sets but those Holbein look gorgeous.

Glad i saw this before i got thru the vid tbh i was expecting the same
So, traditional coloring: Holbein. Digital drawing: Wacom. I knew I can count on Japan to make good stuff!
+Arctario Yes! Absolutely! Incredible quality products!
Don't forget copic is also from Japan
Add COPIC Markers too 😁😁
Holbein watercolors are also the best of the world.
I didn't know I need them until I saw this video

Joy ce please please please tell that to my family!!! They say I have an addiction because I own 200+ nail polish colors. What should I do?!?!? I mean... I'm a nail tech!
You now can get the pastel colours only as a set of 50 pencils. Pretty nice!
OMG!!!! I WANT HOLBEIN ❤❤❤❤🎨🎨🎨🎨
@@CarolReidCA Damn eating pencil sound so funny😂 Wait- I also sometimes bite my pencil.. Well Idc as long as I owned those precious pencil color OvO
I love the color range in the Caran D'arche. I wish that the distributors of colored pencils in general would sell packages of shades from the green, blue and purple range separately because I sometimes don't go far out of those color choices.
I love the pastel set ! I just wanna... touch it... and maybe hold it... annndd steal it.
I have never heard about the last brand, but it seems they have beautiful colours.
Ana Patrícia Barbosa They are made in Japan, are quite expensive, as they are apparently marketed in Asia, thus orders have to be handled individually, shipped separately, etc., but they are incredible!
Ana Patrícia Barbosa nearly £400 for the 150 set, makes the polychromos look cheap
O.M.G the Holbein colour range!!!!

Lo how much is it?
Helios dammmmnnnn that s hella expensiveeee for colorpencils :"( . Aniwi thank youuu for telling meeee :)
I want Holbeins 😭😭😭 its pastel range is so marvelous 😍😍
I have this Holbein set too. They are beautiful. I say these are good for painterly approaches or laying smooth fields of color while I got Polychromos for linear drawing work since they keep a point so well
Was the Holbein or the Pablo the first ones were talking about? I love both for layers and getting that painterly effect, although Pablo's are good for getting in that fine detail. I love them all, clearly :)
Yes sorry the Holbein's are what I have with a few colors in Polychromos. Working towards getting the Polychromos full set.
Greetings!! I love my Faber-Castell Polychromos!!
Hello! I love my Polychromos too!
yes
Me too
Jan Kimbell You can layer & blend, and get just about (& perhaps) any color imaginable with these. a little turpentine, or blending solution, and you can make anything with even the smaller sets, although a tad easier to have more colors! (Who wouldn't want them all?)
Mine are faber castell. And got them for a real good deal on amazon. I love the Holbein ones though! The pastel colours are delicious!
What?! I didn't know Holbein made color pencils. Guess it's time to go sell some organs.
well looking at their prices, i honestly think that we'll have to sell multiple organs
😅😅😅 LMAO
Holbein is No 1 for sure. What a nice set of pencils. I will be ordering them. Thank you for this video.
+Peter J Maida you're welcome! Let us know what you think of them! N.l
I love the set with the pastels! but I wouldn't mind owning either set. I'm a Crayola and Rose Art user lol
I LOVE CRAYOLA
I prefer Crayola over Rose art, they blend well with prisma. I use prisma verithin, regular prisma and prisma premier, depending on what I am illustrating.
oh my god, youre my soulmate! I just bought the polychromos, after using the pablos for the past 10 years or so, AND i also just bought the pastel holbeins.
+Pepper Ana Ha! Yes! Colored pencil soulmates are some of the best kinds of soul mates to have! 🙌🏽♥You have great taste, my friend!
*widens eyes after seeing pastel colors*
Dad: You okay?
Me: My eyes have been cleansed. ⊙︿⊙
So informative. Already got money coming out of my pocket to buy all 3! Ouch$ but intrigued. Really good presentation by Jane Bush!
YAY for lefties!!
My favorite pencils are prismacolor
I’ve just discovered Holbien pencils and I am shocked they are not talked about as much as Prisma colour or polychromous, I love the look to these pencils and I really want to purchase a 12 set to get used to these pencils thank you for this review!
I've used Holbein tube watercolors and I do love the quality. So, very good quality art supply company.
+Lisa Tennant I believe Holbein are high quality across the board with their products! I just picked up some of their tube watercolors tonight. Thank you for watching!
Derwent is an excellent brand too :D
+Shadow Cristo Yes they are! I agree!
Luminance is actually the better range of Caran D'Ache.
I don't like derwent pencils they're not smooth like others.. scratchy
@@misshayley9603 Derwent drawing pencil set: smoother than prismacolor!!! I love them!
I bought a set of Holbein's on your recommendation.. BEST EVER! You are absolutely right about the layering thing, I can layer on and on till I am satisfied. THANK YOU!! Muah 💝😘
6:02 perfect cololurs
Glad to know I'm not the only one who goes right to the commentary while watching to see the time stamp highlights!!🤣
The Holbein pastels are mesmerizing. Wow!
Those Holbein pencils are so beautiful, just seeing them made me cry! The range of colors! The vibrancy....OMG...can I come play at your house?
For me Luminance caran d’ache are the best ones, although I have those on the video too.
My fav color brand pencil is Prisma color..I agree I don't think these are too be used in coloring books
I love these fabulous color and hope to find solutions.
probably would kill to get those pastel😍😍😍😍😍
❤❤❤❤❤
This video is the main reason I bought Holbein. I have had them for 2 months and I color nearly every day with them. Luminance is my top favorite but Holbein is number 2. LOVE them both
I just looked on amazon at the Holbein ones and nearly had a heart attack
Liz Kimber same
@@VintageMemory if you live in the USA, then they have been banned from sale, you can't import them yourself either, this is due to the high cadmium leave in the colours.
My favorite pencils are Koh-I-Noor Progresso woodless. They have fewer colors, (I haven't found more than 48), but the quality is excellent in both the colored and graphite sets, and the price is reasonable.
beautiful is an understatement. ...should keep those 3 sets under lock and key!
Lol believe me, they're insured!
Thank you for the video, I am a coloured Pencil artist and I use Derwent Procolour and Coloursoft also Faber Castel polychrome pencils, most of the art I produce is stilllife and may be some landscape.
Have you tried luminanace?
+Kate The Sleepy Teacher Yes I have! I actually owned a set of them for a while, but had ran into a financial bind, so I had to sacrifice them to the wonderful world of eBay. 😔They were gorgeous and had absolutely no wax bloom. I used them on top of a griddle on the lowest setting to warm the wax and the pigment. It was wonderful. I only wish they had more colors.
@@ArtistJane do u prefer them to Holbein
No, They’re both high end quality pro pencils, but they are both fantastic in their own right.
cant choose between pablo and polychromos. they are both AMAZING! and yes i agree having both is a DREAM!❤❤
Great information! Thanks for sharing. What types and brands of paper are best for these pencils? Thanks!

I have never used the Caran d'Ache Pablo or Holbein pencils but Polycromos are one of my favorite pencils. But for me, the best pencils that I have never tried are luminance. They are frightfully expensive but the result is just awesome!! Thaks for this review.
omg the pastel shades ❤
+iamneka Right?!?
I have the fabel castell sett with 120 and 36 pencils and i really love them! They are amasing to draw with and they are so soft so they are easy to smudge out and i love it!
+Mari Polden They really are practically flawless!
I have got faber castell pencils and SOOO AMAZING!!!
+Kitty Kitty RIGHT?!? Nothing quite does the job like Polychromos!
I JUST BOUGHT A FABER CASTELL POLY YESTERDAY! NOW I WANT TO BUY HOLBEIN OMF
+samhljómur HIGH FIVES!!!! I'm excited for you!!! You will enjoy your Polychromos for sure! They're amazing!

The glory of smooth pencils like Polys and Durers and Caran D'Ache just give me goosebumps.😜
Thanks for the review.
Loved it and those Holbeins are surreal but damn they're expensive. One day that set will come home too😉
At least 12 are coming as eBay has a voucher for Sept 10th.
Hi Dana
Yes I use them for colouring mainly actually mostly for colouring and I use different pencils for different books depending on the paper.
Hope you're still loving your colouring too😊
Lo could you plz say from where did you get them .
Iman Atiah I got them from eBay. I think bicwarehouse had the cheapest price :)
Just bought a 120 set of Faber Castell, I’m so excited!!! I will continue to use my Prismacolors but I think just mainly for sketches.
Enjoy! They will open up a whole new world for you!
Awesome video & thanks for the review!
+Joshua Dansby Thank you!! Very happy you enjoyed it!
I have the "Felissimo Color Museum" and I can't bring myself to use them anymore after trying out each one of them in a Swatch Test Journal. To me, it looked better for interior design purposes than actual artistic use (but that's me)
Thank you so much for this video.
Those pastel coloured pencils 😍
I know!!!! 😍😍😍😍
I have the Carne d,Arch, and Polychromos, Love them both and listen to your video twice. Thank you. Janet Grundas
+Janet DeGrow Grundas Thank you, Janet!
Hi
I'm at starting stage of fashion designing which colour pencils helps me the most for smooth and clear colouring
Hope you reply me soon
My mouth waters at the thought of having a set of holbiens
“I think there made from magic “ 😂😂😂
I love the pablo colours, the light blue and pink are soooooo pretty!!!
Does Holbein still make colored pencils? I can't seem to find them anywhere other than ebay.
yeah, i agree. i have both berol prismcolor and faber ones, and i think they are both useful because they are different, and i can do different artwork with both...
the price of holbein, is more than enough to buy caran d'ache luminance(+ a small set of polychromos) at black friday in amazon. holbein is in good quality & lightfast is good.
Sean
Sean Mooney look at her video, she doesn't like prismas
"Also, 2/3 of the Prismacolors are not lightfast, which lowers the quality for artists as well." This is not a fact
It feels good when i see this colour pencils..thank you for recommendation...
prismacolor pencils are also very good.
catsintexas you know they got rid of their quality control right¿ they're pretty cool but made so cheap and so defective sometimes, it's a good thing they're not expensive.
huh. this would explain why 1 out of every 3 of my colored pencils, sometimes break up when I try to re sharpen dull points.
catsintexas I'm sorry, I have the same problem with mine, but they still remain one of the best in terms of color variety.
catsintexas I saw a couple TH-cam videos that said Prismacolors rarely break if you use a helixical pencil sharpener.
It was said that some of these pencils have an off-center core ever since they lost some quality control. That was why they kept breaking. I don't think using a certain type of sharpener will solve all of those problems.
Those pastels shades though! I am not normally drawn to pastel colours but they look beautiful!
They are! They sell a pastel only set as well!
First time I hear about holbein
I've already got the Polychromos but those pastel colours in the Holbein set look amazing!
Good lordy those are nice but hehe.. I can't afford them

They’re good quality and lay down well.

inkond of get sick of this fish eye camera xx but still those pencils are super nice. i wish inhad the talent to use them properly
Woah, those are some beautiful colors from Holbein. Love those pastels!!! :)
Aren't they?! I'm in love with them!
Do NOT use Copics if you are serious about the longevity of your work. Hang a painting on your wall and watch the colours disappear week by week.
Oh dat pastels.....loooovelyyyy😍😍😍😍
