The best tip to hit a long hook is to fake (stop animation) and watch what player does. He usually start zigzaging and also lose some distance then you wait for his next turning to start and then shoot slightly ahead of him.
Flesh heaps with Eternal Shroud makes it feel very unfair. The spell steal from Rot in team fights is ridiculous and Pudge already has insane amounts of HP even without Heart.
I still think Carry Pudge still has its merits nowadays. For one a high tempo tower busting lineup with a Pudge carry can absolutely mop the floor against a Naga or PL carry if he gets his Aghs early enough. He absolutely needs the mid and offlane to offset his weaknesses though(lack of physical damage needed for taking down buildings).

I've been a pudge player a very long time so I know his limits. As a 3 its typically phase boots into either hood/vanguard-blink-aghs. That's the typical order. In lower mmr around 4k and below I can skip the blink and rush aghs. Players are less active and you can get away with farming. At 5k and up I had to make space and actually play the role as a 3. So blink is usually mandatory... keep in mind I always first phased picked. I was countered by Ursa's, lifestealer, etc. You also need a real pos 4. If get some ass mirana player or something your lane might be screwed.

in my bracket, Pudge is either banned or banned due to double pick. You can never reliably pick pudge. Once it took me 20 games before i can pick pudge.
a bit late but the most satisfying trick i do with pudge when players are on a choke point is when they try to dodge your hooks, you can just keep on faking it until you get near them then just dismember them :D
Back in the day in WC3 Dota, when allies could actually purchase items for each other Pudge and Leoric were the N1 most broken heroes. The team just buys hearths for Pudge and the game was over, nothing could kill him.
I have to disagree with your hook method. The best way to get a long hook with an Aether Lens is to narrow the enemies pathing. Let's assume you shoot a hook and the enemy can go in any direction ... you don't want that. The best way to land hooks is when the player is limited with escape options do to trees, buildings, and body blocking. We all want to hook that squishy Sniper in the backline, it's super satisfying.
I highly disagree on the two bracers build it will heavily delay your Ring of Health item and I would recommend going straight into a Ring of Health into Hood or Vanguard depending on what you feel deals more damage to you. For 1k+ gold, 2 Bracers doesn't give nearly enough sustain (~2+ HP regen) compared to Ring of Health 6.5 for 825 gold which can be built into better sustainability and survivability items like Hood or Vanguard. I think the most optimal build would be: Wand > Ring of Protection > Boots >Ring of Health > Phase Boots > Soul Ring > Vanguard/Hood> Aghs>BKB>Dagger After that go with even more survivability, buy Heart or Shiva's or upgrade Vanguard or Hood into Abyssal/Crimson Guard or Eternal Shroud.

I feel like pudge is sort of a feel hero where you need a lot of games on pudge to play pudge well as someone who has a couple hundred pudge games but maybe that’s not true anymore plus it’s probably the best time to learn how to play pudge If you’ve never played it while it’s so good

I made it to immortal this patch primarily playing pudge as a 3. Ranked winrate with him is about 85%. I'm sure this will drop the higher I go.
