Oh, well done! Of course, you shouldn't /have/ to disassemble it to find the button, but I'm glad you managed it! It's such a lovely idea for a puzzle, but clearly the execution didn't quite pan out.
Just finished day 2 and the piece that was required to solve the puzzle did pop out into the room for me after a bit of hard shaking this way and that according to the directions. It’s a very clever fun solution once you receive that piece.
Kosmos have posted on their Twitter/X account saying if people are missing parts of their advent calendar to contact them (they must be aware there is an issue). We had exactly the same missing part - which is a shame after looking forward to solving the puzzle today.
Interesting! I did look in the two rooms either side of day 2 in case it had slipped into those (but didn't show on camera so as not to spoil). Did you find it in one of those, or elsewhere in the calendar?
@user-gw3lh5ew2y I think they do sometimes have packing issues, where something is in the wrong day or the entire calendar is rotated within the box (although these are hopefully just a minority of people!), so I suspect that's a general notice and not a direct response to day 2. When I emailed them on the 30th November (when I solved this) they said I was the first person to report this smiley missing. But then I imagine most people do wait until December to solve, so that isn't necessarily meaningful. In many territories you can email 'games@thamesandkosmos.co.uk' for help, and I understand (and I also found in this case) they get back to you really quickly and can send you whatever you're missing - although I haven't received my missing smiley yet! :)
I’m glad I watched this as I’ve spent about half an hour shaking this box around to no avail! I prised open the box and like you, there was no emoji piece in there. So there’s obviously an issue with a lot of these calendars having that missing piece. Such a shame.
Thanks for the guide, mine was also missing the emoji. I'm sure it will turn up in another room. Hopefully my attempts haven't distributed any other rooms around the box.
@@drgareth oh I gave it a LOT of shaking. 🫣 The experience didn't age well either. First line of day 3: "this pneumatic tube was actually helpful" 🤣 was it, was it EXIT Advent calendar?
I thought I had broken it to start with too, especially because I pressed quite hard through the hole and wondered if that had been the problem - at least until I took it apart. :)
We missed the emoji as well, as did a friend of mine. Her emoji had traveled to another box. I got a wrecking ball and "demolished" part of the tube room, but no emoji. I'll find it. Thanks for your videos. We've managed to find out way so far, but I love to come back and then check your thought process.
Thank you for watching, but sorry your emoji has gone missing too! I have now received a replacement in the post, so I may add it to the start of a future day's video. :)
Awww, what a shame. 😥 Ours worked. We held it it horizontally with the doors on the top like it said and tipped it a good 45 degrees in each direction following the arrows. We had imagined there was something small that had to go through a maze and thought about how we would tip it to make sure gravity pulled it through each part of the path. Then, a little circle emoji piece was just suddenly there in the pipe opening. It was cool! Thanks for taking yours apart so we could see how it looks inside. Seems like we had the right idea. And we also got lucky that ours was properly packed!
I edited out my progressively more pronounced attempts to follow the instructions from the video, but I also tried at various angles - and also holding it completely at 90 degrees too. Sadly no success, but I'm really glad it worked for you! So cool!
Ours had the emoji but we had to take the room apart. We have had these calendars for 3 yrs now tho so we knew the room might come apart. Greta idea just didn’t execute well but I’m sure based on other years the rest will be really good!
This is our first ever Exit product. We loved the first day. We got to the 2nd day and had the same issue you did! I took apart the room only to find that the button was missing! What the heck? We started our calendar a few days early so that we will be done on 12/21, as we are traveling on 12/22 and didn’t want to take the calendar with us just for a few extra days. We finished day 4 tonight. Days 3 and 4 were better than poor day 2.
Glad to hear you enjoyed days 3 and 4 - I'm about to try day 3 myself so that's good to know! I think day 2 was a wonderful idea but you can see that it is a likely point of failure because it must be such a small piece for the factory to have to always get right. :)
Our piece had fallen behind the white maze.. luckily, we have used these products before, so knew we could remove the insert rather than undoing the whole box! Found the emoji behind the maze lol. We love exit products so we didn’t mind! X
Sorry to hear your calendar didn't release the emoji either, but glad you found it! I tried pulling out just the single room but it didn't budge so I couldn't be sure it would come - and didn't want to accidentally destroy the front of the calendar! :) Most rooms don't have a separate insert, of course, but that one did turn out to.
Door didn't work for me either, did however have the emoji. I had to disassemble, and in turn messed up my calendar, so this series will help me keep everything in order.
Glad you found it eventually! There's a repacking guide for the calendar at www.thamesandkosmos.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/EXIT_Advent_Storm_Refill_Guide_UK_PRINT.pdf
Worked perfectly for us, but we didn't do any shaking. The riddle should definitely mention being gentle. We put some pieces back in which have been sliding between the rooms, so I imagine it has dislodged into another room. I know there have been issues with missing pieces, too
It was surprising how many people had this part missing! After a couple of days I had a replacement part sent to me by Kosmos, which I show in my day 24 video - since in doing so there are a LOT of spoilers! :)
Oh Nooo! This is so sad to see and from the looks of the comments most others had the same issue. I feel really lucky now that this puzzle worked for me and honestly I thought it was such a cool mechanism so I’m sad that you didn’t get that same experience 😞 At least there’s plenty more fun rooms to come
Thank you so much for these videos! Luckily this puzzle worked for me, but in my calender there are no storybook, hintbook or that machine where to insert codes. So i am definitively using your videos to read the story - without your videos calender would be useless for me.
I would recommend contacting Kosmos (or whoever sold you the calendar) - they should send you these key parts (or a replacement). You will need the actual story book for some puzzles, I think, based on previous years - and of course the decoder is needed every day.
yes, same here. We were excited to see the button and little trap door but no emoji counter is there. :-(. Great idea but shame the theres a fault with the product. Glad it worked for others though.
Had the same problem with mine. When I pulled the thing out I did find the emoticon so I was able to not cheat to find the code in a way. It almost appeared that the emoticon stuck after being punched out and almost static clinged, preventing it from moving. Glad I wasn’t the only one with this problem. Seems like it was just a bad execution on Kosmos even after play testing.
Interesting. I haven't seen the emoticon yet but is it made of cardboard or of plastic? Perhaps it needed to be made of something heavier... like steel. Or lead. :)
Our calendar has the button, but it also wouldn’t drop out. It seemed like it was stuck in the maze somehow. We cut / ripped the door apart and were able to retrieve it eventually.
Thank you for this video, was losing my mind. Found our emoji finally by taking it apart, but it had slipped into another room! Cool idea very poorly executed. Had same issues like you on the directions as well
Oh what a shame! Seems from the comments that others are having the same problem. It was a very cool puzzle though and gets me excited to see the rest of them! See you tomorrow 😊
Oh really? That's such a shame! I did get to try it out eventually - I think it's in my day 24 video - since Kosmos sent me the door insert so I could try again (but don't watch that until you've finished the calendar since that video will ruin the rest of the calendar for you). It did work for some people, but (as you can see from the comments on this video) it clearly didn't for a LOT of people! :) I eventually fully disassembled my calendar and it wasn't there at all - so it had got lost when packing it at the factory, I assume. If it isn't fixed this year then I agree that's surprising - you'd think they've had requested an extra checking step in the assembly process. (Although it's also possible you have last year's printing, I guess)
Mine didn’t work either.. I haven’t opened the calendar yet, but maybe I’ll find the emoji later.. I just guessed, since nothing happened, that it must refer to “silence” 😂
Instead of shaking I ended up having to completely tip my calendar to either side to get the piece to fall out. Interesting design, but a little finicky in the execution
Ahh, that would have been cool if the missing piece had appeared. Still, the design of the puzzle was fun anyway. Hope tomorrow has a nice surprise for you! Loving the advent fun on the channel! 😍😍😍 Looking at the comments section looks like everyone's been having trouble with the puzzle! 🍪
I think the comments are a little self-selecting because if you have a problem you're more likely to comment, but even so I have to say I'm really surprised at the volume of people with the same issue! On the other hand, you can see at a glance the various ways this puzzle can go wrong: stuck inside the calendar, lost inside the calendar, never packed with calendar in the first place, and accidentally ejected onto the floor while solving. :)
Mine worked but I held the pen in and moved the calendar that way, not sure if I was meant to or not and your piece has maybe slipped into your calendar somehow. Either way thanks for doing these videos, watching your last two years inspired me to get this years one
Really glad I inspired you - and yes it's possible it's in the calendar somewhere and may show up eventually! I couldn't find it in neighbouring horizontal doors (where it could move relatively easily since they aren't sealed, whereas neighbouring rows don't have the gap at the bottom so I think are less likely places for it to be hiding if it's there. :) I think holding the pen in will make it easier for the token to move, since it will separate the door inlay from the cardboard behind it.
So sad to see how many people had a missing piece or that we didn't come out. Our calendar worked well and we got the emoji without any problem. It was such a cool moment, I'm sorry so many peope missed it. Hope it's the only malfunction there is!
"What should you do now? Rumms" sounds like drink advice...Almost certainly not the intent of the designers, but the more i hear it, the more I'm inclined to get myself some eggnog...
We had the button! But we actually didn't even need it. My 7 year old was looking at the emoji card and knew "silent" was part of the clue so she knew before we did! I'm sorry you all didn't have my clever kiddo on your teams!
Oh dear - I had hoped it was an unusual fault, but given it must be such a tiny piece it does seem like a likely point of failure! There must be a packaging factory somewhere with hundreds of little smileys on the floor that never made it into their calendars!
Thank you, I found my button! This is my first time playing and I didn’t know you could take the room apart!! Now to continue……
Oh, well done! Of course, you shouldn't /have/ to disassemble it to find the button, but I'm glad you managed it! It's such a lovely idea for a puzzle, but clearly the execution didn't quite pan out.

Yay! Really pleased that it worked - I do think it's a fantastic idea for a puzzle, and I'm sure it's brilliant when it works!

Argh, same missing part!
I found it. There is a way for it to slip into the front part of the box (hard to describe). I found it by ripping the front part of the room apart...
