    Hi Duade. Do you know what version firmware was on the Tamron? Version 2 came out recently which is supposed to address EF to RF adapter compatiblity.

      I was using the lens in April 2021 and it came from Tamron so I assume it had the current firmware for that date. Unfortunately, I no longer have the lens to do any further testing. Cheers, Duade

      It all depends on your budget and your style. The 7D1 or 2 if on a budget. The 90D if you need reach and cropping. The 5d3 for nice low light performance and FF. Cheers, Duade

    it looks like the r6 really needs the 100 400mkii or above... i have the 90d with the same lense and get similar results so to me the tamron isnt ideal for the r6? would you agree?

    • @Duade
      @Duade  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think on a Canon mirrorless body the 100-400 V2 with a converter or a 100-500 would be the better option. Cheers, Duade

    G,day, as a learner, I hardly dare ask, but I don’t understand why your shutter speed needed to be set so high (swan at 1/2500) I thought with slow moving subjects & on a support it could be slower, so lower iso? No criticism here, just a novice picking up tips. Your photos are amazing & i’m really enjoying your channel.

    • @Duade
      @Duade  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      it is a great question and it is how we learn, you are right I probably should have used 1/1250 and ISO1600 which would have resulted in the same exposure. I do tend to use fairly high SS as the R6 handles high ISO very well, I don't see a huge difference between ISO1600 and 3200. Cheers, Duade

    I owned this lens and even using computer afma couldn't get a consitent focus on my 5D4. It either front or back focused with no pattern. On occasion it did hit focus but was so unreliable I sold. Maybe I had a bad example but its put me off 3rd party telephotos for good.

    Duade, your videos are just fantastic. You've found a way to make it seem like a friend is talking with me about photography and gear and not a cold salesman at a store. Yours is the first channel I've ever become a member on because I get so much out of it.
    I like the birds in the mist the best! I have been trying working with silhouettes recently, especially since often times I don't have "interesting" subjects but have an interesting environment instead.
    Apart from that, I've decided to stick with my decision to buy the Canon EF 400mm f/5.6 for my crop sensor body over a zoom like this. Your video on that lens made a great impression on me and made me feel like it's the best for where I'm at in bird photography.

    Some lovely shots there Duade. I bought the Tamron 150-600 G02 a couple of years ago for my Somy A77ii. I've now got myself a Sony A7iii and kept my fingers crossed that it would work OK on it via the Sony A to E mount adapter; I needn't have, the results are superb. It's a heavy beast to use hand held but probably the best value for money piece of glass I've ever bought.

    These lenses (including the Sigmas) are amazing for the money. I'd like to see a side by side with the Canon 800mm and 600mm. With the zooms you get a larger max apature, and zoom. With he Canons, well it's a Canon.

    • @Duade
      @Duade  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      , yes that is an interesting comparison. Zooms are very handy and so is the MFD. I would say the RF100-500 is a clear winner but is much more expensive. Cheers, Duade

    • @DeputyNordburg
      @DeputyNordburg 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Duade The 100-500 seems to have great specs and all but its competition in my mind is the Sony 200-600. I realize the 100-500 has a greater zoom ratio, but the Sony is 100mm longer, has a slightly better aperture at the long end and is $700 cheaper more if you find a sale. It also looks better which I know is not the best comparison, but still.
      I have too much Canon gear to switch, but that Sony is tempting.
      Love the show btw.

    • @Duade
      @Duade  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Nordburg, I agree on paper the Sony appears to be the more attractive option, however once you use the RF100-500 you will understand why its priced the way it is. I really cannot emphasise how light this lens is, it is an absolute dream to travel and walk around with. It is as light as my 400 5.6 which is incredible. The IS, AF and sharpness are all next level, it really does feel like an evolution from the EF lenses. Cheers, Duade

    Great Video Duade.... not many review of the CAnon R6 with the Tamron 150-600 G2. I do not know if it is my copy of the g2 lens but it took excellent pics when it is working right, Occasional I get the lens hunting in and out and I had to remove it from the adapter reinsert to get it back to normal! agaiN! it only happen mostly when my lens is zoom out to Max. and when the camera has gone to sleep mode waking up from sleep..( 600mm) and than it would hunt renlentlessly! which in our birding times miss all the good shots! wonder if anyone have this experience! I have the Original canon RF adapter and I also bought the Viltrox adapter and both give this issue ( again it is not all the time .. only once a while ) .... no problem with the Canon RF-100-400 ! or Canon 70-200 IS F2.8 with Canon Extender 2x III. AgaiN! thanks for the great review .... I did get occasional blur like you have on some shots! but only occur when I turn on Image stablization!

I want to replace the body. It would be a better combination with my existing lenses whether I buy an R5 or R6? Have you made such an experiment? With which lens I can get a better result with my current body? By the way, I don't shoot a lot of video, so I don't need the R5's video features. Thank you in advance...

      @Duade  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gday Ismail, thanks for your comment, it is a great question, I think the R5 is the better camera and allows you to crop heavily. The R6 is also a great camera but misses a few of the features from the R5. The Sigma lens should work well on the mirrorless bodies. Cheers, Duade

    Tamron and Sigma super telephoto zoom lenses for Canon DSLRs/MILCs are appropriate glasses indeed. Because Canon itself doesn't offer anything in this range. There's one 100-500mm RF lens which is shorter by 100mm, slower at the long end and pricier! So, it's wiser to buy the so-called third party lenses for this purpose. BTW, how is the durability of these third party lenses?

    • @Duade
      @Duade  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The build quality, weather sealing, AF, IS is not as good as the RF100-500 but they do offer great value for money. Cheers, Duade

    Is this the better option for a r6 instead of the expensive rf 100-500? More reach and wider aperture for less then half the price? Has the Tamron the same eye af issue then the sigma (which you encountered in one of your videos) sharp unsharp sharp unsharp. Love your content! Greetings from Germany.

    • @Duade
      @Duade  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Ben, I think it might suffer the same issue but I did not test the pulsing issue properly when I had the lens. I did notice the sharp, sharp unsharp with this lens also which maybe the same but unfortunately I don't have access to the lens to test. It is a real shame the RF100-500 is so expensive as we really need Sigma and Tamron to make lenses for RF mount. Cheers, Duade

    thinking of making the switch to mirrorless. the lack of glass for rf mounts made me apprehensive for a while. im currently running the 90D with this same tamron lens, i do love it but it is pretty horrible in low light. thinking about getting the r6 and using the tamron with it. looks like the eye focus works better with the tamron compared to the sigma. hate losing the crop sensor though, wonder what your thoughts on the r6 with the tamron but also with a 1.4x extender? i do have a tamron extender i could use with it, but its horrible with that lens and the 90d

    • @Duade
      @Duade  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      KG, it really is tough at the moment with the Tamron and Sigma lenses not releasing an RF version. The R7 is a really nice camera in good light, a touch better noise than your 90D but will be similar IQ. However the eye tracking is a huge step up from the 90D and you will keep the crop factor. The R6 blitzes the R7 in low light but you have to get close to make the most of the 20mp sensor. You can use a 1.4 extender and maintain AF but I wonder what the IQ will be like, I am not sure.
      For its price I think the R7 maybe a good start with mirrorless and wait to see what the next round of cameras will be like. Cheers, Duade

      I haven't done any testing to see where the focusing is, but feel that I need to. I did get the Tap device so that I can adjust, once I figure that out. There is some softness, which could just be issues with the user.
      My biggest issue is the noise, which I attribute to setting a higher ISO to try to get higher shutter speeds for the wildlife.

      Zac, yes, I tested the Sigma after this and noticed some pulsing with the AF, I suspect it impacts the Tamron as well but I did not test the Tamron for the pulsing. The viewfinder and AF appear to work through the viewfinder, but you will find soft shots popping up in a sequence when using AI Servo. Cheers, Duade

    Hi Duade and thanks for the video! I actually got this lens a week ago and trying to learn how to use it properly paired with my 77D.
    Unfortunately, I couldn't afford a canon lens such as the 100-400mm II but I wanted to get started. I might upgrade later.
    Two questions for you though, I see you shot at very high ISO (although I know the R6 performances are great in that respect) and bumping the shutter speed up even with your gimbal.
    First, did you leave the VC on?
    Second, do you recommend closing the aperture and increasing the SS even on an older body like the 77D? I tend to find it difficult to like a picture when the ISO is above 800 in general

    • @Duade
      @Duade  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Congrats on the lens and thanks for your question, it is a tough one. I think the 77D should be able to go to ISO1600 but 800 is ideal. If light is a real issue I would maybe use f8 and lower the SS and take lots of bursts and hope you get some sharp shots. Yes I left the VC on. Good luck, Cheers, Duade

      G'day Ahmed, a tough scenario, since you have the 100-400 I would consider the RF800 F11 as an option for extra reach. The F11 does mean that in low light it may struggle but you will not need to crop as much with the reach. The 150-600 is a good lens however I have not used it on the EOS R and not sure if there are any focus issues on that camera. I purchased this lens last month with an EF-RF converter, and I pair it with my EOS R. What I've found, through watching several of your videos, is that there's some key points to getting sharp photos -- firstly, as you mentioned, f/9-f12 aperture is definitely the sharpest zone. Secondly, another point you drove home in a previous video: you need to be close to your subject. I have been snapping photos of birds in my back yard which is 85ft/26m long and that's asking a lot at 600mm for smaller birds like sparrows, because once you're done cropping to a composed image, you haven't much megapixels left of detail. I have a few pictures of American Robins and Chipping Sparrows where I was lucky enough to be very close to them and the images are gorgeous, to me at least. I wouldn't have gotten into bird photography without your videos, so thank you for all your hard work.

    Interesting timing. I just recently purchased a Tamron 150-600mm G2 and took it out for the first time two days ago. I bought the lens along with my Canon EOS 90D and was quite pleased with the results when I went out Sunday afternoon (4/18/21).
    I started saving first, and took months researching the camera and lens I wanted. I settled on the 90D fairly quickly -- the R5 and R6 are absolutely stunning cameras, but they were quite a ways out of my price range.
    It took longer to settle on a lens -- I wanted something versatile and economical, so a zoom seemed likely, and I wanted power. I read tons of reviews by professional photographers, watched scores of video reviews on both Tamron's 150-600 and Sigma's. I eventually settled on Tamron's.
    I am not used to the weight yet -- together, camera and lens weigh about 2.65 kilos. But I use a tripod regularly and will adjust.
    By the way, I love the bokeh I get from this lens.
    I did have some difficulty with sharpness on this lens -- as soon as I noticed it while processing my photos, I kicked myself for not remembering your advice in your last video about stopping down to f8 or f9 -- I won't forget next time.
    Thank you, as always, for posting your videos. Your photography is incredible, and you relate what you know very understandably to your viewers.

    Good video thx. Stopping down to f11 with a high iso says something about the lens and shooter. I sent my G2 back because of its many weaknesses. Don't get me wrong, slow moving/perched subjects within 30 feet will enable you to capture pro quality photos, even wide open at 6.3. At mid to long distance combined with action and low light you have to be skilled and very very lucky. Mr. Duade - would you be so kind and let me know how the Tamron Sp 150-600 g2 would work on Canon EOS r7 please?
    Im planning to skip from 90D to R7 - where I thing will need the EF-EOS R adapter. But the question is - will it work with the autofocus at least the way as how the lense works now with my 90D? IMO, this video shows that R6 works well for my needs. Would it be similar with R7?

      Il tracking R6 funziona ma l'autofocus a volte è incoerente, non penso che questi obiettivi siano completamente compatibili con l'AI Servo di Canon Mirrorless. Ho ancora molti bei scatti, sii preparato per lo strano colpo morbido in una sequenza. Saluti, Duade

    An old video, but I have the same combo. The Tamron 150-600 G2 are a bit more nervous on AF than Canon lenses, but at least it nail the focus when it works. Changing from eye focus to single focus helpes. Thats not my experienses with Sigma lenses, who always was out of focus. Even a 16/2.8 fisheye for aps-c was out of focus! So I no longer buy Sigma lenses.

    Duade, thanks again for your lovely videos! I bought canon eos r10 and an old lens Tamron 200-500 F5-6.3. This lens is quite sharp but it faced massive pulsing issues with r10 that I couldn't fix in any way even I took it to tamron so I sold it. Now I am about to buy either Sigma 150-600 C or Tamron 150-600g2. Can you help me which of the two to choose? Do they both face pulsing issue problem? I saw many times your videos about pulsing issue and how to fix it on sigma lens. Does Tamron face the same problem? Thanks for your time!!!

I've had this lens for a few years, it's heavy but the focal range is great, especially with my eos80d. i am planning to buy r7 with rf100-500. a big expense, so first of all only the camera - do you think that the duet of the r7 with the tamron 150-600 g2 will be satisfactory?

    Those are some great shots and lovely footage!! I found for autofocus accuracy, I changed it to center point only with the Tamron. Mine kept losing the subject like crazy. It would hunt around for a solid minute or two and then just give up. Switching to center point only improved accuracy a lot. I'm still rocking a 50D, though. Seems to be more accurate on newer cameras lol.

    Maybe I am a bit late commenting on this video. I really liked your shooting style and comments. I just got this Tamron 150-600 f/5-6.3 VC USD G2 lens for my Nikon D500 recently and so far I really enjoy and like the lens. It seems to work real well with the D500 autofocus so I found I haven’t missed many shots with poor focus. Mostly anything that isn’t correct is more my fault then the lens or camera. Just a learning curve as I haven’t had a 600mm lens before and had been using a 300mm before. Any issues with camera shake etc are just magnified so much more. I had rented and tried a Nikon 200-500 and this Tamron. Both seemed very similar in photo quality and focusing etc however the weather resistant seals on the Tamron and slightly wider and longer lens had me purchasing the Tamron but other than that either would have suited me. VC and VR seemed negligible difference. Both seemed hand hold holdable for me (I just turned 70 so I am equally wobbly with both) plus the Acura Swiss mount worked with my tripod and monopod without having to add anything to the mount for attachment. As for photos I couldn’t see a difference between either lens. Thanks again for your video.
