    I own a Pearl Sensi- Tone brass, and a 20s Ludwig nickel over brass 6 lug, and I have to say I love both, but lean toward the Ludwig for most liked. I think all the snares you sampled sound great, but the black beauty's price doesn't justify paying for, when I was able to land the NOB Ludwig for $200., and the Pearl, new in the box for a tad over $200. Just my opinion, but great comparison video.

    Sensitone...hands down. All day long and twice on Sundays.
    Also, the Pork Pie Big Black (Bob) should have been included here. Great sounding NoB snare at a ridiculous price.

      If I don’t want to spend the cash on a black beauty- Pearl sensitone or pork pie?

      @@219Dave If you really want The Black Beauty sound on a budget, then check out Ludwig's own Black Magic. It's their Asian-made clone of The Black Beauty. The Sensitone and Pork Pie are both great sounding snares, but they have their own thing going. Check out this shootout between various Ludwig snares. If you can hear $400 worth of difference between The Black Magic and Black Beauty, then you have FAR better ears than mine.

      Would you recommended the brass snare for hard hitting snare? Since my old snare lugs just broken about 3 lugs and can't find the replacement. And i think i need a new snare drum.
      I found out metal snare is more punchy which i like but sometimes i dont really like the ringing sound. Since all my life i just used wood snare drum.
      Should i get brass or any other metal snare?

    Great comparison! That Joyful Noise sounded great. I wish u included the Pork Pie BOB.

    thank you for once in a comparison I've seen, using a tune bot to tune them identically to give a true comparison. Thank you!

    I was surprised how little I liked the Black Beauty. My top two were the Pearl Sensitone and the Joyful Noise. Second place to the Ludwig Black Beauty. The COB drums were a very distant last place to me, not enough punch, kind of weak sounding.

    • @soundknight
      @soundknight 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's pretty clear they didn't tune the ludwig properly, though I did like the pearl better too.

      @@soundknight agreed I own a Black Beauty now, and it's wonderful! Yes, hard to tune compared to some other more simple drums

    They all sound great. I have 5”hammered BB. I’ve wanted 6.5” BB. But I love Pearl fittings. Sensitone 6.5” is my next.

    ...all those Snare,s sounds great...it,s up to the money you will invest about...i think the pearl Snare is a good value. i love this overtones on the Ludwig ;-)

  • @dreadmaps
    @dreadmaps ปีที่แล้ว +1

    In a full mix do the overtones improve snare tone perception? That’s the real question here. Put a backing track on these and let’s see :-)

    @andrewlau2939 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    That difference in thickness is showing its muscle a bit in the Sensitone. The Sensitone Elite Brass is 1.5mm thick compared to the Black Beauty's 1.2mm

  • @monkeyxx
    @monkeyxx 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    revisiting this a year later I do think the black beauty is the standard here . the pearl has a big fat sound though that's different

  • @Circadianarrhythmia

    Thought 4 was best, 1 close second. The sensitone was way too dry for me, you want a resonant shell to work with. Might have to get one someday

    1) 1 Piece NOB is it for sale?

    The Pearl wins hands down! The Pearl sounds fatter and sounds like how a recorded snare sound should sound for rock or pop.

  • @HGH44309
    @HGH44309 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Black Beauty is a bit more lively than the Pearl. More overtones. But to be honest in most (pop) music Studio situations you don't really need those anyway. I love my Supra and my Acrolite and spend a great deal thinking about getting a BB but got the pearl instead. 250 bucks. Great snare.

    That pearl sems to be muffled some how, way more controlled than the other. It have a diferent snare head on it?
    Maybe those big lugs make some kind of little diference.

    I honestly thought the BB was the worst sounding of all of them. Very overrated snare drum and definitely not worth $600 with Ludwig's crappy QC. Go with the Pearl Sensitone or even a Pork Pie/WorldMax snare. Same sound for half the price.

      600USD is easy. In Europe Ludwig wants 1000USD for the BB. The Sensitone 650USD here...
