It's thanks to the DJ, the master that was Alan Freeman that I was introduced to some of the greatest obscure bands such as Seventh Wave. He played some magnificent album tracks and sometimes complete albums on his saturday afternoon show back in the 70s.

I know! It’s hilarious, and he’s nuts! Though I’m very thankful for his support, I’d like to thank all my subs, my wife, my mum and dad, and the academy…. Wait, that’s a different speech. Er…. Fank you Scot!!!

I have been a fan of seventh wave since their concert at my uni in 74. Check out Old Dog Song from Things to Come. The lyrics on Star Palace are mind blowing.

Thanks for playing this album, Jim. I got this particular LP back in -75, just out of curiosity over that intriguing illuminated mask on the cover. I found it astounding back then, and you are right, there was and is no music by anyone else that matches it. I do recognize some R&B, and possibly some Todd Rundgren and cabaret influence, but it otherwise is a blend made into its own style. Strange too that the band and musicians never ventured into any other project after this - quite a stage exit.

best way to listen to this is to sit in a darkened room and let the music take you on a journey , well that's the way i see it anyway

the whole of psi fi is just wonderful. every track is spot on, and el tooto is pure mozart. this album is just as good as any pink floyd record ... no, better! ~

I agree with you, their strength seemed to be in crafting soundscapes. Some of those were quite cool and could have been from any number of 70's sci-fi films. I suppose that was the point, given the title.

This is only album I've ever seen where console operator is photo credited which speaks to me.

the whole concept of jazz is that you hear what every instrument ,and that includes the vocals , is doing because they are all playing separately and together at the same time , different cadences ,phrasing , tempo and pitch , same thing with these guys , except its all electronic and the arrangement is due to the producer Neil Richmond , genius , Keiran O'Connor was the vocalist and incomparable , unfortunately a bad alcoholic which ended his life and this band , Ken Elliott composed most of this with Richmond and aside from dabbling with other bands and compositions for a short while went on to become a "jingle " composer , who knew ? this album and its follow up " things to come " are nothing short of classic genius works

Psi-Fi was the follow-up to Things to Come but yes, both works of genius.

...it's music, Jim, but not as we know it
Yes, think Side 2 better. Also some Zappa in that 1st track!

As you say, this is a bit more adventurous in the style than side 1 but it's still underwhelming compared to its peers at the time. Any similarities you hear in subsequent bands I doubt were direct influences from Seventh Wave, but more from the giants of 70s prog. Still, not bad for £2 and a worthwhile listen. (I'll point again to the presence of Hugh Banton (of VdGG fame) who may be responsible for some of the soundscapes by which you were impressed.)

I enjoyed the soundscapes and melodies, but I still can't get into the vocals, and vocals are really important to my enjoyment.
    A shame.

The intro was nice but no more than that.
I really don’t like the singers voice 😵‍💫
A bit too experimental for me. I miss structure.
The soundscapes further on this album are good but they are not very much imbedded in the song.
I think you should listen to ‘Berlin impressions’ volume 1-3 by Ken Martin and compare those soundscapes that to this album.
Or ‘Sebastian im Traum’ from the album Audentity (1983) by Klaus Schulze. Very experimental but much better than this imho.
