Ron Ron got me into the motocross madness and living off it for years. the first of all games to download custom tracks. I remember his track in the game, super gnarly sx. so fun
I had a 1998 YZ125 and those were just the best machines in the class at the time. I also rode the 1997 CR250 and that bike was sooo rigid , and it vibrated a ton. Horrible bike to ride. I imagine the 125 was just a slower nightmare to ride. However I did have a 2001 CR125 and that bike handled amazingly well. I loved that one. So good to see Ron Ron ! I remember the days of his forum RonRonmx ! Good stuff.
I still have a yz 125 2001 had it so long, it’s bullet proof and still a great bike that will never be sold as I can fix and replace the parts on every single bit of the bike
back in 98 my friend brought a 98 CR125 and i had a 92 RM125, i was so keen to ride his new bike, finally the day came where i got to take it for a spin, instantly i was shocked at how slow it felt compared to my RM, and yes it did not handle as well either, even he said he liked my RM a lot more i think he was pissed deep down
Growing up racing i had a 87 cr125, 95 rm125, 98 kx125, 99 kx125, 01 cr125 and finally an 03 rm 125. Worst bike was the 95 rm. 01 cr was the slowest but handled, probably the best. The 99 kx was fast and turned well. The 03 rm was probably best all around. Strong motor and handled really well. I raced everything from mx the gncc on thos bikes.
My last race bike was a 2002 RM 125, and that bike alone was responsible for at least half of my wins that year. The handling was unbelievable. All I needed to do was think it, and that bike would do the cornering for me. It felt as if it was built specifically just for me. It was that good.
I had a friend who basically shaved out and then boxed in the frame so it would fit a 1997 intake. It worked beautifully, but at the national level, you can't modify the frames because it was against the rules to alter the frame and swingarm whatsoever.
I had a 1997 CR 125, and I HATED it. The suspension was horrible, but the handling was even worse. I dreaded getting on that pile and was beyond lucky when I was able to swap it even for a 1997 Suzuki RM 125 that was in much better shape.
I had a 1999 cr125. It's the worst bike I've ever rode. I remember my motor guy telling me "I'll build it, but it's never going to be as fast as a stock Yamaha." Then I rode them until I got the first kx250f which was also a horrible bike. I stuck with kawi and dropped off my 2007 kx250f at PC and that was the baddest bike I've ever ridden by a massive margin
I have a 98 CR125 with a 96 engine in it. Not even comparable to the slow 98 motor that had weird gears and only had power in the middle. I have a lot on it to compensate for the stiff frame and is a fun endurance bike now.
I bought the 99 ya 125 he’s not kidding that bike was one of my favorite bikes of all that I had. I had a handful of 250s but that bike was fun and fast
The 2000 CR125 wasn't any better, my friend bought one and another friend bought a 2001 YZ125 and the difference was shocking. My 84 KX125 was faster than that Honda, I believe...
Worst? Na, '87 125 Ktm, after 1 Yr, Pouros Bores, broken selectors, cracked crank seal collars and Sh1t power, worse than 84 Yammies.....and No interweb to tell 'Stay away' if you fancied a Yr away from 500s,. Two of us raced and found identical problems. Best place for 'em -Deep mineshaft!
Travel abroad and you will have a different outlook.. we are lucky as Americans that other countries care to learn English, and most people are very subconscious of their second language. I’ve had the pleasure of being friends and working with many people who English is their second language and just some encouraging words goes a long way for their confidence and the communication flows better and better. I personally can understand every word he said.. but I’ve spoke in length with Chinese, Korean, danish, French, Mexican, etc.
@@stevesmith756 oh, I tried my mates, it used to leak but felt slower that my 1980 Air cooler G model.maybe 'cos it was quieter with the water cooled barrel. Looked good though.

That and MCM 2 were so awesome! racing in huge online tournaments and custom bike and rider skins. I would play with a joystick back then. Good times!
I miss it daily
And all the MX games now are hardcore POV sims... and not nearly as fun

One of my fav riders back then. Ron Ron is badass. The MCM2 tracks he made were so sweet.
The 97 and the 98 are the same motor. They just had to pinch the airboot so tightly to fit between the frame and shock. It couldnt breathe
The 1998 CR is the first to have a 5-speed gearbox, which is even more detrimental than its poorly designed air intake.
Apparently you could put a 250 air boot in

I bought a 1998 CR125 brand new! I loved my bike!!
You need a 97' 6-speed gearbox
I've raised many 125's and I would say the slowest 125 I've ever raced was the 1998 KX125, even with many mods it was a turd.

Jase, why you saying aluminium like that?! 😂
Seems interesting
Ron Ron was a true bad ass racer
He was good.
Hommie slapped on a few pounds....too bad he's not riding still. Atleast he seems happy.

Maybe see a doctor and have your ears checked.

82 yz125. One of the worst 125s
84 was pretty shit too , gutless and that 'B.a.s.s' system.
We were Guinea pig's in 80s/ & lab rat's -Ace times!
@ Yes! i fully restored that yz. Everything you could think of, ran alright if you held it pinned the entire time, but it blew up after 3 races.
That 82 YZ was gross with the radiator on the triple clamps
