E46 M3 - Bilstein B16 + Supersprint Exhaust Install & Exhaust Sound

- After fitting our Evolve Carbon Airbox a few weeks ago the customer also wanted to do suspension and exhaust. With a Bilstein B16 kit, and Supersprint Mid/Rear Sections waiting to go on, along with a plethora of genuine BMW parts to replace and 15/12mm spacers to fit at the same time we got to work transforming the stance and sound of this Laguna Seca Blue E46 M3.
The Bilstein B16 kit is extremely capable, and is well suited for UK B-Roads, providing a sensible amount of drop, and handling bumps far more confidently than the stock suspension. It's what we recommend for most customers wanting a coilover that is designed for function rather than form, and is what we have on our own M2 GTS Project.
Supersprint manufacture some of the highest quality exhausts around, and we've worked with them for many years. We chose the Lightweight Race rear box that saves a significant amount of weight at the very rear of the car compared to the standard box, along with a non resonated centre section. We decided to keep the standard cats to help keep the exhaust from becoming too loud, and because the customer did not want the loss of low down power that comes with a decat. The end result sounds great and perfectly matches the Evolve Carbon Airbox's induction sound.
At the same time we also fitted 15/12mm spacers to fill the arches a little better before the customer chooses which direction he wants to go with for aftermarket wheels.
Lastly we changed the plugs for maintenance, and fitted a prototype Eventuri carbon fibre engine cover which matches the weave direction and quality of our airbox.
The work we've done has transformed this E46 M3 in to something truly special, a perfect fast road car without compromising on usability.

Big thumbs up to owner of that e46, its a bloody stunner. No shitty depos or dodgy wheel refurb, just beautiful! i miss my e46 albeit was a vert, mine was Phoenix Yellow, love the standout colours on M cars. It got replaced by a Signal Green F80 though :)

If i had the money to fly out that way id get an estate and let you have your way with it.
It sounds better than my stock E46 M3, but now the car suffers from sever parachuting! BMW uses this exhaust shape for a reason, even in their newer M cars - to improve aerodynamics
As a rule of thumb, always ask yourself, do I know better than //M division?

But you haven't provided data to support these "'restrictions," like a before/after dyno test. All you provided was some dope music with some guys working in a dope workshop
Would love to see a revisit of this build but this time with:
SS v1 Stepped headers
SS sec either straight or catted
SS sec 2 dual 63.5mm
And any muffler that has 63.5mm piping

The stock exhaust of a E46 M3 is in my opinion the most natural sport exhaust sound and i love it. I don't like the new one..
Great video, but worst music ever!! Guys pls consider something else for your next clip. Otherwise great work on a beautiful car. I love the B16 on my E46 as well...I went Magnaflow for my exhaust but Supersprint sounds great too.
Thanks Ari, music's always a bit personal taste, was fun to use a different track for this one. Next video will have a different feel for music. B16's are an excellent coilover, we have 0 complaints with the ones fitted on our cars.

Evolve Automotive congrats on your video,impressive job. I suggest an before after coilover install on hiw lower yohr car got just like the exhaust before/after. Own an e92 325i and im thinking of b12 or b16 depending on for what i will use it(jus slam it probably and cruizing). Try some chillout lounges muaic,they come closer to the audience and it lets the audience hear your work beside the relaxing sound. Keep it up

Nice one guys. Nice upgrades and tidy work. Can I ask exactly what size wheel spacers ye used front and rear? Also tire size? Looks like there is a bit of stretch on the rears. I'm running 265/30/19 lowered on KW coil overs about 30mm and don't have any rubbing issues. I'd like to push the wheels out to be a bit flush but not sure of spacer size yet.

Hi amazing car in the best colour but I’m a bit biased as I own the girls version a lsb convertible M3 😂 I just fitted an eisenmann sport rear silencer but I only took my diffuser off to aid fitting, as was doing my self was cared to remove the bumper lol!! Is it hard to take the bumper off? Great job by the way 👍🏻
Not overly hard but also not always necessary, these bolts were seized so the bumper came off to give us better access.

Question: is it possible to run a Bilstein kit without lowering compared to the stock setup? I have M3 rims/tyres on my 325Ci and looking for a B12 kit but I don't have the space to lower it more than now because wheels will touch the arches..
The b12 kit will have a minimum lowering.

How is the Bilstein B16 setup? More stiffer than the e46 m3's OEM? We can lower or raise the height also?
Stiffer yes but an upgrade in every way. Lose a little comfort for big gains in handling and height/dampening adjustment
The reason I asked is because lowering the center of gravity shortens the diatance of travel putting more force on rear subframe.

I don't understand why the exhaust gets reduced to a single pipe and then back into a double? When the standard exhaust is double barrelled...

For retaining the cats this is great sound imo. Nice job clean car. If any e46 owners are watching this and want a cheap INSANE sounding set up id say catless headers and decent muffler like megan supremo. Can see it on my channel if you want an idea of how it sounds. Deep tone but when youre on it very high pitched. Lot of people have confused it for exotic car sound when i had it.

Did you guys see any cracks in the subframe when doing this job on this E46??
After the summer the car is having subframe reinforcement done as a precaution so we didn't check closely, but looked okay.

All the parts came to around £3400, not including some refresh parts on suspension. And then a full day of labour to fit. Certainly not cheap but money well spent.
Evolve Automotive I’ve got a really good suspension set up that I’m really pleased with tbh it’s as low as a badgers tadger but not to harsh. I’m refreshing the vanos this week so that’s my budget spend for a little bit 😉what are the weight saving from that exhaust system vs Oem? And bhp gains? The scorpion 🦂 is around 15 kilos lighter and between 5-10 bhp gains. 😉This I know because I used to work for Shaun as a part of his RnD team and silencer section.
I had a look when putting this video together and I couldn't find anyone who had compared them, and it wasn't something we thought about when fitting, so we aren't sure on weight savings exactly, but it's a significant amount. Definitely a lot easier to fit 😂 As far as we're concerned the middle and rear section makes no tangible power gain, it's purely sound/weight differences.
Great video mate, I think the music suits your videos, to finish off and fine tuning the suspension will you corner balance the car.

Hey could you share the height of the car I looking for the right ride height for my e46 M3 with pss9
Hi Nick, we didn't measure the heights after it was setup, from memory the rears were roughly in the middle of adjustment, and the fronts were set to be as low as possible whilst still putting a little preload on the spring so that it isn't loose at full droop.
I Liked the music and great video. Best colour for the e46 M3. The Evolve air box looks great.

Thanks James! We did not dyno the car because the centre and rear sections of the exhaust provide little to no power gain, and obviously neither does the coilovers 😉
