As the Bari guy that was on this, this was actually the second take. The first take was more together, however this was an encore. I’m glad to see all the supportive comments and I’m glad so many people liked it! We had one rehearsal before the show and then played the entire cowboy bebop soundtrack during this concert. Btw I’m Mexican not Asian 😂

I saw an interview with a creator. He said the lady who wrote the music for Cowboy Bebop, would show up randomly, excited with new pieces for them to integrate in.
I just love the expressions on some of these older looking pros. They're having so much fun with the song and it's awesome (edit: see you, space cowboys ;) )

The main thing to remember is that cycle breathing takes a loooooot of practice to get right. Keep it up!
It’s a trchnique where you put air into your cheeks then breath in while playing with the air in your cheeks

A lot of those guys are probably too old to know Cowboy Bebop, but they are music guys, and this is a great Blues piece, and you can tell they dig it just for the quality of the song alone.
Never too old to enjoy yknow. They look around 40 to 50 meaning they were in their early to late 30s when it came out. Heck my 55 year old uncle was a huge nirvana fan

David that’s the problem with being in the rhythm section. The rhythm section sets the foundation for the whole band and is a vital part of a band but sometimes they get some boring ass parts

Not really, it tells you a thing or two about the quality of the soundtrack. The quality of the series relies on the series itself (which is a 10/10) but many shitty series have great soundtracks

It was the first anime OST that I outright refused to skip, ever.
I’d say without the music, the show was nothing.

Whiplash is one of the best movies ever made.
La La Land is a little ironic because it only has a little "true" jazz in it, but even then, I still loved it as someone who already loved jazz the first time I watched it.

I've been introduced this anime by my friend almost 20 years ago.
I'd watched all of program of this anime. This composition is very impressive. Because it represents the atmosphere of these stories.

Apparently they were asked to play off sheet. Most if not all of them didn't know song beforehand, which is also why you hear as some mistimed notes.

I was born the same year Cowboy Bebop aired and I've grown up watching the show. It's always been and will always be my favorite show of all time. The cast is amazing, the music is a total jam and the overall messages of the show hit deep. I've never become so deeply attached to anything more than I have with Cowboy Bebop. Everytime I watch an episode or listen to the music I tear up. This performance was absolutely amazing and I'm so jealous I wasn't there to attend. Stay Safe everyone and keep the jams going!

at first I was disappointed that the sax solo wasn't the original, but in the end he still really knocked it out of the park!! amazing skills on display here!!
I always forget when I look up live versions of things, it's not common practice to copy solo sections, especially in jazz
Imo his solo is way more creative and interesting than the original (even if the original is really cool)
Jazz solos are usually improvised. The original recording had an improvised solo. Sure, it's hard to beat the original solo, even if it were only due to nostalgia. But also keep in mind that the arrangement these guys had probably didn't even have the original solo written into it, so they couldn't attempt it anyway.
That being said, I have seen a lot of bands play this song and flop on the solo completely. Solos are remarkably difficult, and the Cowboy Bebop fanbase is parricularly critical of anything regarding the show. This guy did not flop. The band overall made a number of mistakes, but I also understand that they had little time to rehearse.
Overall solid performance.
