Good to know diary of a ceo is now just a payola podcast. Everything you've said about money, success & happiness & then you don't ask a single question about the ethics of buy now pay later or the research that shows Klarna etc are normalising debt for teenagers? Absolutely wild, Steven. I'm sure you and Sebastian have a deeply interrogated rationale that you kept to yourselves - Sebastian even gave you bait to talk about intentions, but you chose to lean into the part of your brand where the guest tells a sad story about themselves... Success is dehumanising. So is debt.

Where he said , he stoped saying that money doesn’t make you happy ….. first time I have heard someone say that on this podcast . Because it is true , thou no , the money as an object will not make you happy , but , being able to afford basic everyday needs and perhaps a vacation here and there ,is so important for our mental health . We live in a world , where most of us , if we want to eat , we need money , if we want to have a roof over our head , heating , water to wash ourselves and our clothes , we need money .
So saying money isn’t important is a straight up lie . It’s not important when you have it , it is so important when you don’t .

This one of the most under-viewed interviews I've seen on this channel, yet so super informative. I'm an engineer myself in a very senior role, but this is the path I want to envisage. I have all these crazy ideas around AI, but never know where to put them, who to put them in front, or even the motivation. Motivation is key.
The most interesting point was about communication. Communication is the success of businesses. When you start fragmenting communication amongst a tree of key members and the developers, technical specifications become very diluted in expectations vs. reality. You have to listen for red flags, and assume everything is a red flag until it isn't. Engineering is such a complex subject that we don't expect anyone above to understand, but having people that don't understand sit with you and resolve issues is a huge part of expectation vs. reality and the empathy needed to objectively make critical decisions.
It's knowing what good looks like, and then going "I know this is good" - you don't need to be an engineer to understand the workflow of an engineer, and why engineers are huge, huge part of the success.

Money doesnt make you happy , to really be free of all of the things allows us to know our inner happiness. But at the same time its so important. It was similar to me his story I grew up very poor. I wanted sucess, to radiate joy and it made me more passionate to get what was right for me. It sets a fire in you. Contrast is also so important, you need rich people around you both rich financially and emotionally in order to realise there is more. The issue often is peoples lifes are too easy. Not great but also not terrible and so a fire doesn't become lit. You also dont experience enough contrast in life to awaken compassion, truth and drive. The people ive seen that suffer the most are not those of us that have experienced great hardships but are those that need hardships to really experience. We need to experience life in order to truely be rich.

💡😭@1:06:23 - 1:07:08 you never know when you literally might be someone’s last hope. I have learned in life that if you can help someone, help them. I’m sure that Sebastian is haunted by not taking his dad’s calls that day. In the big scope of things, helping his dad monetary with his apartment was such a small small thing he could have done for his dad compared to all of the money that he himself had/has. I this this from my own life experiences. I pray he and anyone else / all of us living with this type of regret will heal.😭🙏💝

This interview showed the basic and fundamental truth about humanity. Black, white, or purple, we all have a story. As long as we keep moving there will always be a door somewhere. My whole family story revolves around immigration. From aunts to uncles to cousins to grandparents. It’s refreshing to hear someone ( white cis man ) speak about the adverse effects of immigration. Not only it has made him resilient but also vulnerable and kind. Great testimonial of perseverance.
And his tips on management are precious too.
Mandate vs suggest; or how to build a culture where people are proactive, responsible and content.

Interesting podcast. On the topic of WFH - I think getting the right balance of days at home/in office creates the perfect working environment. I currently WFH 2/3 days a week and have been able to pursue my hobbies more with the 2.5 hours of commuting saved and actually begun monetising one of my hobbies, I’ve been able to stay on track with the gym and go on daily walks during my lunch break. All of this has led to more productivity in my work. The days in the office are also great as the mention of culture and social aspect is especially important.

This is the first time I wanted to watch a podcast again and the reason I got so hooked on this is literally the title because when I told someone years ago who was close to me that I’m gonna be worth seventy billion pounds (£70,000,000,000) they gave me that “you are delusional” look. Thing is that I’ve already done things that makes me know I can. Long before Uber was a thing, I conceived the exact idea after I sold my car and started using Streetcar which is now Zipcar. I was actually doing Minicab as a side hustle whilst at drama school and then one day I thought… “what if like streetcar, you can book a cab without going through an office? Just an app just like Zipcar. Then customers will pay less fare, drivers will save more by not paying £150 a week whether they get a job or not and then just take 15%”. Presently I have some ideas I’m the tech space, NFTs, Fashion and dating. I’m working relentlessly to make things happen and even though I’m an actor and rapper, I invest a lot of time on the Diary of a CEO podcast because I find things to implement from other greater minds like me. Thank you again Steven for bringing amazing guests on the show. It’s gonna be funny when I end up in this podcast and the title will be… “From £0 to £70,000,000,000”

While Sebastian questioned many of the potential partners motivations and potential which is definitely fair, I’ve learned that it’s too easy to assume that everyone around you will interact with the thing you love with the same zeal and motivations as you. As an owner you may have to really work to understand peoples motivations and play into it. Anyway a wonderful conversation and podcast. Thank you Sebastian and Steven

Hi Steven, and The Diary Of A CEO - hope you're all doing well!
I would like to ask - one day could you interview Martin Lewis? He's the most popular financial money saving entrepreneurs around. I would love to hear his story - incredible person on finances, and how he speaks.... incredible!
    Many thanks.
P.S. I've been recently watching these videos to gives me ideas, and to get my interest on something else in life rather than football constantly.

If you're smart you'll find a way to success. If you're physically healthy there's plenty of jobs you can do. Problems appear when you're not the brightest and then your physical health hits rock bottom.

Regarding Sebastian's last segment, although sounding the most controversial, regarding how he wants to raise his kids with some hardship, it's actually the most sensible, and reflects some reality! My Dad chairs a rose business in Norfolk, and its' privately owned by some Canadian Billionaires, the Floods. Recently he went to Canada for the funeral of the owner who has passed on, survived by his 83 year old wife and a daughter.
Arriving at the funeral in Canada there was a lot of surprise at seeing a huge bunch of Rastafarians in the Pews..!
He and his wife had an uncontrollable (apparently) grand-daughter so they pretty brutally had shipped her off to a boarding school in Jamaica! What gets better is that she was the only white girl in a school of over 2000 Jamaican black kids. She, now growing up to an adult age had become a teacher, and was very grateful for her schooling in Jamaica, and she as a teacher was excellent at putting any black kid (teaching in Canada) in line - the solution, threatening to tell their grandparents their transgressions.
