How are yours so nice. I got mine wings clipped because they were trying to fly outside and flying away from us. Now they wont even let me hold them or perch on my finger. They try to bite. But if my hands or not in site they will come up and give me kisses. And nobody has tried to grab them forcefully. We try to let them know its ok and have alot of patience with them. And they dont care about treat or anything. As soon as the hand comes out they freak out. And I have raised them since they had pin feathers.
Most of them i have had since very young as well. I spend many many hours a day working with them either by themselves or in a group setting. Gradually work on your approach with hands starting from a further distance and progress with small steps offering positive reinforcement with each step. Lots of people use treats but personally I've always used good praise. You might consider using a clicker for training too. Try working with the birds in a neutral setting, smaller area (like a bathroom) away from their comfort zones like a cage or playstand. You want to be the reliable source of comfort too. When working with them do it separately and in 5 minutes or less increments a few times a day. Trying to over work yourself or the bird may be more stressful on the both of you. When I worked with another persons bird in the past that didn't like hands or human interactions, I walked close by the bird several times throughout the day without making any eye contact so she didn't see me as a threat. Gradually I added eye contact and spoke softly in my approach and offered good praise as a reward. In about 3 weeks in our home she had made about an 80-90% turn around.
Hey, I love your parrots! I have one just like yours. However it keeps biting me! So in my opinion I think you should add like a tutorial on how to train your parrot. Or just reply on my comment. lol
We actually have a website www.chatterboxparrots.com that has a FAQ section with tabs underneath that link to advice. It's important to try to understand the bite itself though. When does it happen, is it just you that's getting bit, what the body language is during a bite, is it hormonal or within a breeding season, is the bird molting or going through an adolescent stage called bluffing, are you wearing something different. Many things may trigger a bite. I personally have experienced bites but usually when jealousy, to fast of movement was involved or blocking another bird from being bit.
what if the first few nights of a parrot or other talking bird being in a new home starts talking in the middle of the night and you forget u got a talking bird and you call the cops thinking it's a intruder having a conversation in your living room 🤣
It's a grt personality trait, when you can entertain urself and have fun doing it! He kinda has a fetish for kissin the branch where he's perched. Diferently of Rukus and Dunkin that are always kissin him, I rarely see him kiss them back
I keep coming back to this video. Hearing him scream for someone to give him their belly so he can "tickle, tickle, tickle," never gets old. It was so clever to teach him the "Chugga, chugga, chugga, JuJu"
