      The first instrument is a cornet, not a trumpet. The cornet is smaller and that range is way too high for a trumpet!

    #16 is not a glockenspiel, it’s a marimba! A glockenspiel, also known as bells, is distinctive for its high pitched sounds, and its keys are made of metal. The marimba has a larger range, going well into the bass clef, and it has a more mellow sound due to its being made of wood.

    • @RtsShrtFrRtthw
      @RtsShrtFrRtthw ปีที่แล้ว +6

      the instrument on the left is a vibraphone, and the one on the right is probably a xylophone.
      glockenspiels are far smaller than vibraphones, and marimbas have a softer tone than xylophones.

    • @merlin7794
      @merlin7794 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@RtsShrtFrRtthw youre right about the vibes but that is 100% a marimba. xylophones typically have less range than vibes (the marimba in the video appears to be larger than the vibes) and you absolutely do not (or rarely ever) use 4 yarn mallets on a xylo because xylos don't play chords, and they're not made for soft mallets like that (and will hardly produce sound because of the shorter resonators), while marimbas are. also just in general most mallet percussion duets are written for a vibraphone and a marimba.

    When your "tuba" is actually a euphonium

    • @phineas1117

      It’s a tuba, euphoniums have an extra key for the hand you’re hugging it

    • @magicweaver2886
      @magicweaver2886 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      As someone who plays the Euphonium, and is in a brass band, that is not a Euphonium, that is a Tuba. It is simply playing higher in it's register than you might be used to hearing. Additionally, tuba's can have the extra valve that @phineas1117 is talking about and come in several different shapes/keys. The way to tell if it's a Euphonium is by the size (usually don't have to stretch to reach around it, and the bell will be at head height when resting on your lap (not the chair). It is also higher in pitch than other tubas (yes I said other, since the Euphonium is technically in the tuba family), but the tone will be slightly different in the overlapping registers (it will sound thinner on tuba than euphonium in the tuba's upper register)

    Trumpet: Terry Trumpet
    French Horn: Fernando Horn
    Trombone: Tom Trombone
    Tuba: Toby Tuba
    Violin: Vikki Violin
    Cello: Charlie Cello
    Viola: Victoria Viola

    Oboe: Obi Oboe
    Flute: Fiona Clef
    Bassoon: Bassoon Clef
    Clarinet: Clarinet Clef

    Xylophone: Diana Daniels
    Glockenspiel: Ginger Glockenspiel
    Snare Drum: Diana Daniels
    Piano: Pauline Piano
    Triangle: Diana Daniels
    Marimba: Marcia Marimba
    Disclaimer: Sometimes I name the characters after their instruments. Clarinet and Bassoon Clef are good examples and Diana Daniels is the instrument character for all of the percussion instruments in the orchestra, so that’s the reason you see Diana’s name more than once. Also, the instrument characters can be the human versions of their instruments or just simply characters who are assigned an instrument.

I find it harder to recognize same family instruments, unless their top or bottom extremes are played.

      For future reference, glocks have a very metallic, bright sustained sound and xylophones have a very distinct sharp, wooden short sound whereas vibraphone and marimba are softer, warmer sounds. Vibraphone also has a sustain pedal like a piano.

    I got 14 out of 20
    Ones I got wrong were:
    Viola (didn’t know what it was because I’m not familiar with strings yet)
    Cello (thought it was double bass
    Xylophone and Glockenspiel (thought it was either marimba or vibraphone)
    Flute (thought it was clarinet)
    Bassoon (thought it was clarinet)
    Oboe (thought it was alto saxophone)
    Everything else thought I got right

    As an orchestral composer, I got them all but fifteen and sixteen, which were playing with soft mallets, which is not really representative of their sound. As an orchestral percussionist myself, I think it's a horrible example. Both are generally played by plastic or hard rubber mallets. Glocks use metal mallets a lot. They sound almost like marimba and vibraphone.
    Number one was also a piccolo trumpet, or a pocket trumpet.

    6:37 There are 4 common mallet instruments used in Orchestral settings, and you had 2 of them in this video, and you STILL somehow managed to get it all wrong. The 2 instruments present are Marimba and Vibraphone. Xylophone has a very sharp staccato sound, and Glockenspiel has a very high pitch to it. If you think it's hard, its not. All you have to do is 5 minutes of research and you will know the differences.

    #1 NOT trumpet, but rather piccolo trumpet.
    #2 Bad French horn playing.
    #3 Bad trombone playing.
    #4 Bad tuba playing and badly recorded, at that.
    #5 violin.
    #6 cello.
    #7 viola, the greatest of the string instrument family.
    #8 double bass.
    #9 Oboe? It's hard to tell if it's not a super bad synth...
    #10 flute.
    OK, I know my sheeeeet. I'm on to something more interesting.

    The answers for 15 and 16 don't seem right to me. I see and hear a vibraphone and a marimba. Xylophones are made of wood so if anything the one on the right of the screen would be a better contender. People often say 'xylophone' when they mean glockenspiel but in this case the image was another metallophone, namely a vibraphone. Glockenspiels are smaller and more high pitched.
