    • @MyPlayHouse
      @MyPlayHouse 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      His real problem, is that instead of friends to help him in the right direction. He had these TH-cam friends, that was so fast to distances them self, and just throw him under the bus. Yes it's a really bad choice to ask fans for nudes,, and being under 16 in the UK it is apparently also illegal. (Here in Denmark it's 15,, and you can have all the X you want)
      His TH-cam "friends" has pissed all over him, for something that might have been rated like a couple of parking tickets.

    • @incrediblyStupid678
      @incrediblyStupid678 5 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      @@MyPlayHouse I think a lot of people are missing a few things here. This does not fall under any sort of age of consent law. He was asking for nudes, so it falls under the Protection of Children act, which deals with child pornography. Any "indecent" image of a person below the age of 18 therefore is considered child pornography. Did the 15 y/o seem like 18 to him? Maybe. Did he know for sure? He did not. Even if it came to consent laws, he would have to "reasonably believe" (quoting the law text here) that she was at least 16. "Reasonably believe" in this context means that he had "reason to believe" she was at least 16 or, in this case, 18. So only if she would have told him that she was 18 or if her profile said such a thing (neither was the case to my knowledge), would this have been excusable in front of a judge. Not asking for her age and just going "Oh well, I'm gonna assume she is of age" still makes you guilty of the offense, in the eyes of the law and from an ethical perspective as well. ESPECIALLY given the whole power dynamic considering that she was a fan. Given the latter, this would even add a layer of coercion.
      So, he can go "I didn't know, I was young and stupid" all he wants: he is still in the wrong and, if my aforementioned points hold true, guilty. THAT is his real problem.

    • @yknowthatgirl
      @yknowthatgirl 5 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      My PlayHouse no, no. This is not even close to “a couple of parking tickets”.
      This is an abuse of power, knowing she was a fan, and asking a child for under age pictures, saying he didn’t know, is not an excuse. We will never actually know whether he knew or not.
      Edwin says he wants to hold people accountable for their actions. He’s not holding Karim accountable for his.

    Regardless of age or mental status at the time, asking any fan for sexual pictures is not acceptable, abusing your position of power to ask for nudes from anyone, yet alone a 15 year old cannot be supported.
    I understand that he could have been going through some tough things, and would have supported him through depression, but using your power to ask for sexual favours or revealing photos is a form of manipulation. Also to the defense that "he didn't know that she was 15" - she said she was in school. A normal person would have thought to ask.

    you know, the actual fucked up thing is you giving people like this karim guy who, with proof, mind you, asked underaged fans for nudes, a platform to "speak his side of things". Whether he knew they were underage or not, that doesn't erase the fact that he used his influence over fans (there's a power struggle and it makes it wrong no matter the age of the other person) to ask for nudes. It's wrong, he doesn't deserve to explain his sides of things because there's nothing to explain to justify his actions.

I challenge Edwin to make a real video about the effects of social media, and he'll too have to admit that making a video like this isn't helping the case.

      Twitter is designed, by nature, to only amplify specific soundbites. You can only tweet 280, once 240, characters, and that format is not the best for explaining yourself in. Within the last few years, they introduced "Twitter Moments" to try and explain the context of trending tweets and topics, but the problem is, this is a platform that's 13 years old, and its users have become accustomed to jumping onto the first flaming scream train they see & adding their own logs to the fire.

That doesn't hold up whenever there is actual evidence of messages he sent to an under age girl. There's only one side of evidence here, your case doesn't hold up in any way shape or form. Before you start pleading for someone's innocence you best be able to prove they're innocent. P.S. You can't use your backwards #MeToo movement as evidence. The problem is that you don't know the full side of the story. Hell, Emma might have not back then but it's clear that you don't now due to the fact that you only talked about the parts that supported your friend and dissed Emma. I'm not trying to be bitchy about this, but I'm just saying that instead of just going off what you know and what one person has said then jumping to a conclusion, try getting all sides of the issue and what everyone was thinking and feeling at the time of their actions. You obviously don't have all, if any, parts of the story from Emma's POV as well as yours and your friend, etc. If you don't want to esculate this even more than before (which you have) and you don't want to cause more drama and catastrophe, then just get all of the facts from everyone involved, ok? EDIT: I'm aware UPDATE: Emma responded via reddit calling me one-sided in regards to the Karim drama, but please understand that I have spoken to all of the parties directly involved in this story and made 3 videos prior to this going deep into detail. I made a reddit account for the sole purpose of commenting on her own post to say I would speak to her if she desired because the whole blocking, deactivating, then making a post about me is odd when I'm readily open to communicating. I strongly disagree with her doxxing Karim's full name and this is something I expressed in my livestream the other day (I don't leave these up on my channel, but post on my patreon). I also have to point out how silly it is to call me "potentially bias" straight after using Evan Edinger as her source of evidence when I literally made an entire video debunking him and showing how bias HE is as he purposely mislabeled karim. Furthermore, as mentioned in the Evan video, I find it gross that he took it upon himself to speak for victims that didn't ask him to and don't want him to. The example of the girl who he got screenshots from facebook saying I "intentionally excluded it from my video" is ridiculous because I didn't yet have the time to be in touch with the woman in question when I made the video featuring Dodie and Karim. When I finally spoke to her, she told me that she wasn't aware her conversation with Evan was even on his tumblr page and that she'd prefer to deal with it privately so I offered to deal with it as such since she never spoke about Karim in public/by choice. That private matter should have stayed private - not publicized for Evan's gain against me. Hope that makes sense.
    The sassy (but playful!) Edwin came out to play. I hope this video can bring insight on the mission behind my videos as well as why I find accountability so important. While I do call out Emma and Evan, I did want to also use this opportunity to give props to Dodie and Luke Cutforth.

It starts with songs like Dirt (cancel culture etc) and ends with songs like Villains Pt. 2 where she reflects on her past actions and decides to stay away from toxic people while realising that she, too, wasn't completely in the right. (She said this herself, not just assumptions) Of course, she's not completely better and I don't support the way she handled this at all in case that was the impression I made, I just meant that I thought she had improved.

If he's trying to establish what really happened, then surely he needs to look at both sides fairly rather than coming across heavily biased towards his friend. In regards to Emma and a lot of other youtubers that tweeted, if practically everyone is saying a person did something, even without solid proof, you're more than likely to believe it, or at least question it. Edit: God I just went to the video with Karim and read Dodies comment on it (having watched her video) and she never said her accusations were false, just that she wished her video was done differently. I'd watch your video but I have no interest in those who value the voices of perpetrators over the voices of their victims and I have no interest in adding to the views of someone who puts a youtubers face and name in the thumbnail and mentions like what? Three tweets of hers? And compares the language she used in one clearly tweeted on impulse to one from four years ago?? This video is not about Emma. This video is about you making Karim out to be a saint who's the victim of false allegations, which, let's face it, just isn't true, even if things did get blown intensely out of proportion, and it's about you acting like everyone who disagrees with you about this (obviously highly emotional and intense) topic is an evil piece of shit who shows no remorse. Emma isn't perfect. I do have several problems with Emma. I think she's quick to snap at people and does make impulsive decisions and I hope, for her sake completely, not mine, that she improves on this. We all need to improve on ourselves. However these flaws (no greater than mr drama youtuber over here has, btw) do not make a person lacking in remorse. They do not make someone a bad person. They most definitely do not mean someone deserves to be insulted and called a bad person and lacking in remorse in the title and thumbnail of a video that is NOT EVEN ABOUT THEM. Shame on you. Get some perspective. Your opinions are not fact and just because you befriended one side of the story doesn't make that the only side worth hearing.

    i think u should employ some empathy to understand that people’s immediate reactions are emotional - if karim often hung out around emma and her friends, quite clear she’d hold him her friend too and feel betrayed.
    as time passes, people think back to those moments spent with people that betrayed them. i’m speaking from my own experience. thus emma pointing out that he isn’t her friend may be a result of that reflection.
    lastly, if u want this series to be based on fact, u should ONLY rely on facts. if u want to show the emotional side of karim, u can’t shame emma and her friends for their emotions either.

    He was accused of texting underage girls. So I wouldn’t be surprised if his career went out the window that not just Emma doing. Any accusation should be taken seriously and be investigated properly. Period. Everyone does have a side to a story but you didn’t get an explanation for Emma actions back then? Instead you dragged her, which seems you’ve done purposely because you’ve noticed she not as popular in her video count, which you care to mention despite it not being relevant to the main subject of the video. I’d recommend finding content that not 4 years old. Also I’m not the biggest fan of Emma content since she changed it. However this video is fully bias. I have spoken and worked with the "victims" of his behavior. This has already been resolved so it's strange of you to act as if some atrocious act has occurred. He was a creep no doubt and thank god he didn't commit any illegal acts (he was not aware that the single underage girl he asked for nudes was underage - you could argue that it's still illegal, sure but then it wasn't knowingly). I don't really know what people expect as a repercussion for this act. He isn't trying to make a "comeback." He isn't trying to find new fans or hasn't done anything creepy since then. If this video was me "dragging" Emma then the dragging was tame compared to how she damaged him and spoke of him. However, 'dragging' a person that you do not know personally at all, about a situation that does not directly concern you is not good etiquette and can not 1) strengthen your credibility or 2) positively benefit anyone in the situation. Sometimes it can be difficult to realise that there is someone on the other side so a screen. This seems like something that someone with such a large platform should be aware of. You speak against cancel culture but spend several minutes of this video just making petty remarks, and attempting to end this woman's career. I've actually met Emma. One of my close friends was a hired musician on one of her EPs and another friend I don't know as well has helped her produce and write some songs in the past as well as tour with her as part of her live act. There were no cameras or other TH-camrs in the environment I met her and she was not filming anything. She was really sweet, really funny and super respectful to everyone who wanted to come chat. When she's away from the internet she is a completely different person.
    I guess you have to remember that she came up through the 'system' as it were at a time where everything was much less established and there was no real precedent on how to behave online as an internet role model, especially one who is fairly open about how much she struggles with certain aspects of the human condition. If she had started now she would never have got into this mess with Karim and Jason and indeed I don't think even Karim and Jason would have done what they did too that was not brilliant. We need to have a serious conversation about how bad the TH-camr culture and indeed the entertainment industry has been in general in regards to making it so easy for influencers to take advantage of their fans, whether it's sexually, emotionally or something like using their fanbase to doxx people.

    I relate to Emma. I'm not a fan, I barely watch her videos, but as someone who also has BPD, I can relate. And trust me, it's hard to live with. It's hard trying to keep my emotions in check, trying not to go through the valuation and devaluation of people, trying not to group everyone into one of two categories: "good" and "bad".
    I am obviously aware that the world is not black and white, but during certain situations of high stress (for example) I can find it really hard to bare these things in mind. To understand that there are two sides to a story, that there are shades of grey. This is something I'm working on and will continue to work on for probably the rest of my life. It doesnt excuse toxic behaviour, but being aware of peoples mental health can be very useful in getting some insight into why they act the way they do.
    What she said and did was wrong, and her most recent deleted tweet regarding the situation was just childish. But I understand why she says and does these things, why she says them and then deletes them. It's a lack of filter, a moment of extreme emotion which usually causes an extreme emotional reaction - in this case, her tweet was that reaction and it's clear to see how emotional her tweet was. She was angry, she probably felt targeted, and so she reacted. Of course, I can only speak from my perspective and experience, but I know I can find it really hard to control my filter and to take a step back and look at a situation logically. Logic sometimes flies straight out the window.
    I'm not trying to excuse her behaviour. I want to make that crysta clear. Toxic behaviour is toxic no matter the perpetrator. But it does give some insight into why she may react a certain way. It can be very hard to shift the ideals created in the brain of someone with BPD, so no she doesnt deserve a free pass... but I do think she deserves some understanding.

She's never stuck to what she's said in the past is her "true content" like what she wants to make, She adapt to whats popular in the community at the moment from when her channel started going downhill. The only thing I've seen her be consistent with is her music and even that seems... I don't know... it seems like again she adapts it to what she thinks her audience want to see, not what she wants. The reason I stopped watching her overall was because I felt like I was watching someone constantly adapting to popularity and not a person just making something they themselves enjoy and building their viewership from that again. Hopefully her time away will make her understand that the world isn’t out to get her and to just focus on the people who support her

      Lol considering this comment was from two years ago I think she’s definitely changed. In many ways she just seems much more mature

    emma struggles with BPD so maybe cut her a little slack? Yes she has no filter and is unpredictable but I think that's something that should be taken into account.

    edwin,, mate i appreciate that ur trying to find the truth but this is just overstepping. you're pointing fingers at people who probably haven't thought about this situation in a long time. you know damn well you tagged them in that tweet to get some sort of reply. emma had the right to defend herself.
    she shouldn't have lashed out, but man. you were asking for it. hope u get the views ur so desperately trying to garner by using her name in the title and tags x

      I tagged her to publicly shame her - just as she did to Karim. Is it only okay for her to speak out against someone and not me when the someone is a friend whom I witnessed his hurt? Yes, I hoped for replies but the entitlement of lashing out in a manner that fails to understand the point and shows no growth. This one wasn’t about the truth, mate. It was me standing up for a friend. Big fan of the “doing it for views” attack. Never gets old. Especially when it’s on videos covering subjects that aren’t relevant/trending or an actively popular TH-camr. Anyways thanks for watching and have a nice week, icky

      @@katiesmith7443 indeed... There's no point to this video other than to make views. If you want to make sure to tackle the real issues of social media, then you'd go about it a very different way. This video is in essence the same thing (shaming & blaming for views and creating hype for own benefits/content) as to what he's complaining about. I challenge Edwin to make a real video about the effects of social media, and he'll too have to admit that making a video like this isn't helping the case.
