This is genuinely weird. I was scrolling TH-cam to find something to watch while getting ready & usually it's always like dark murder stuff or negative stuff about current topics/politics and I stopped from clicking the usual video I watch, said to myself "no, pick something happy" and this came up in my feed right at that moment. I've been in a rut lately that I really need to pull myself out from. I need to make healthier choices for myself and seek happiness instead of soaking in bad stuff. I need to smile and be grateful I'm alive with two functioning legs and the ability to live life. I'm grateful for this video finding me.

I'm brazilian, my dad is indigenous/white mixed and my mom is white, with wavy/curly hair, but she never knew how to care for her hair because her mom has pin straight blond hair... So she also did not know how to care for my wavy/curly hair and I grew up not even knowing I had curls in my head, I just cut it very short, brushed and ironed it thinking it was a "messy straight" hair. Now I'm an adult and have been rocking my curls for 4 years. This playlist reminds me of the summer of '21. I'd just finished uni, the UK was coming out of the pandemic and I'd managed to land a job as a cocktail bartender in this new club/bar that'd opened in my hometown. Most of my days were spent serving drinks and getting wasted on the overly generous manager's orders until about 3am, then staggering home drunk. Communities thrive in small towns anyway, but immediately after the pandemic people were particularly socially conscious so it was consistently good times in that bar. Still, there was a sense of something dangerous hanging in the air. The government could've put another lockdown in place at any time (wouldn't have been the first time), my dad had been diagnosed with bowel cancer, and the friends I'd made in uni were becoming increasingly toxic following the loss of a sense of purpose that uni had given them. It'd take me a few years to be struck by that same loss, and fortunately my dad's diagnosis turned out to be a false one. Three years on I look back at that time, at the family I was able to keep, the friends I lost, and the way the world's veered away from that sense of post-pandemic community and I can't help but miss it. Life seemed simpler, but I've traded simplicity for freedom. I miss the kid I was, but I don't regret becoming the person I am now - next round is on me!

I'm brazilian, my dad is indigenous/white mixed and my mom is white, with wavy/curly hair, but she never knew how to care for her hair because her mom has pin straight blond hair... So she also did not know how to care for my wavy/curly hair and I grew up not even knowing I had curls in my head, I just cut it very short, brushed and ironed it thinking it was a "messy straight" hair. Now I'm an adult and have been rocking my curls for 4 years. At first my mom laughed a little when I showed up with curls at her house, but I think since then she too started to understand her hair a little better and has stopped doing blowouts every single wash day. Anyways, just a random stranger sharing their story, I wish I had memories of having my hair braided by my mom, but turns out I had to teach my mom how to love her natural hair at 50 yo

This playlist reminds me of the summer of '21. I'd just finished uni, the UK was coming out of the pandemic and I'd managed to land a job as a cocktail bartender in this new club/bar that'd opened in my hometown. Most of my days were spent serving drinks and getting wasted on the overly generous manager's orders until about 3am, then staggering home drunk. Communities thrive in small towns anyway, but immediately after the pandemic people were particularly socially conscious so it was consistently good times in that bar. Still, there was a sense of something dangerous hanging in the air. The government could've put another lockdown in place at any time (wouldn't have been the first time), my dad had been diagnosed with bowel cancer, and the friends I'd made in uni were becoming increasingly toxic following the loss of a sense of purpose that uni had given them. It'd take me a few years to be struck by that same loss, and fortunately my dad's diagnosis turned out to be a false one. Three years on I look back at that time, at the family I was able to keep, the friends I lost, and the way the world's veered away from that sense of post-pandemic community and I can't help but miss it. Life seemed simpler, but I've traded simplicity for freedom. I miss the kid I was, but I don't regret becoming the person I am now - next round is on me!
