It's getting pretty old but it was $400+. It's a Garmin "Quest" version 1. It's been fantastic. I would recommend it highly for offroading and ATV trips. Mine' s been all over the country on ATVs and bikes. Runs plugged in or on it's internal battery which lasts forever.
We use GPS and if you're going for the first time, I highly recommend having one along. Store your camper parking as a waypoint so you always can get back easily and quickly. If someone has a breakdown in the dunes, you'll need to know how to get back to him with parts.
@83anything Hey Thanks. We think the same thing. Original audio is the best for these videos rather than wiping it all over with a dumb song. So much nice to be able to hear how hard the bikes being riddin. Thanks for watching!
It happens all the time. Every dune looks the same after you're been riding around and if you don't pay attention where you are you can get into serious trouble. The guys that ride there often seem to be able to read the dunes and know where they are at all times.
We've never had any problems. Might depend on what 450 you ride. I know the Hondas before 05-06 had softer valve seats that tended to cup out and wear. I've had Hondas every year since 03. And I know they fixed that problem with better alloy in the valves and seats.
Permits are $30 per vehicle like your truck not your bikes for a week or $90 for the season that starts in October. It is WAYYYY too hot for me and most other people in the summer. The temps are good from around Halloween to around Easter. Your bike must be registered. It can be registered in any state or you can buy a temp California registration. You must also have a flag on any vehicle in the dunes including bikes. It is 100% worth it to visit at least once in your life. Hope this helps.
I just remembered I get my permit for the dunes at a bike shop in San Diego near my house. I think the camping permit cost more if you get it at the dunes. I think it is $40 for the week and $100 for the year but I'm not totally sure. I have not got mine this year yet so the prices may have gone up but I hope not.
Yes it costs to park your camper, I wasn't thinking about it like that I guess. But it still doesn't cost to ride like you'd pay a fee to ride at a regular track. But then again, I doubt you could get there and ride without having to park a vehicle. So Braaaps more right.
Ahh.. Now I understand your question. You can use a normal "knobbie" tire to ride in the sand, but you will not get around very well. A "paddle" tire is not expensive. 30-50 dollars.
I'm not an expert on the dunes. But my riding experience says an 85cc 2-stroke wouldn't have the oompfh to turn a paddle too well. You would have to be wide open all the time and your engine would get too hot and there's a high chance of blowing your engine. Not many people even ride 125s out there cuz it's just too hard on them.
What do you mean "at the back"? You mean towards the rear of the swingarm? Ya, that's the best. When the paddles are too close to the front, as the wheel spins faster, it expands and will grind against the front of the swingarm / tearing off your paddles and destroying your plastic shock guard.
!!! whats this? a video with jumps more than 20 feet and not the same jump and angle for 10 minutes? and the jumps look good too?!?! WHAT IS THIS DEVIL MAGIC MY EYES ARE SEEING?!?!! haha nice vid man
Nope. Just your regular knobbie tire. From my experience, I have yet to see anyone using an actual sand tire on a bike. The knobbie works perfectly fine.
Just Google " Glamis imperial sand dunes" There's unlimited info on it. I just got back from there again last week. Got some good new helmet cam video to edit and post yet. Hope to have it up soon. Thanks for watching!
@rmsuzuki121 I'm with you. My friends and I all prefer to hear the actual riding audio in videos. A music track that wipes out 100% of the true audio in peoples riding videos isn't as good in my opinion.
when you guys went there did you have the sand tire for the front too....i don't know the exact name for it but would you recommend it or can you just use a regulary knobby in the front with a paddle tire in the rear? and with that set up i have a drz 250...is that enough for the sand?
They are required to ride in the dunes. It's for safety so other riders can see you better. All vehicles, motorcycles and quads must have a flag to ride there.
Doesn't cost a dime. But you have to have a flag on your machine. If you don't buy one ahead of time, you can buy one there, but it will cost you a lot more.
@JUSTCALLMEKID1 I dont think so but if thats what you like more power to you. I just personally think it takes more talent to ride a bike. I also think you can do alot more on a bike
You can do it. But you won't have any fun. A few weeks ago I saw in XR400 with a knobbie and he wasn't able to make it to the top of "oldsmobile hill" which is harder packed. I doubt he could ride around much in virgin sand. Used paddles are cheap or free. Spend the money if you want to have fun at the dunes.
No not really. You'll chunk it out and ruin it riding it on gravel for more than a short distance. Definitely you can't ride with it on any hard surface. Pavement or wood is an definite no-no. You wouldn't want to. It'd be far too rough. We change the tires when we arrive at the dunes, knobbies off, paddles on. And we change them right back as soon as we leave the sand.
@83anything how come you dont like quads? Im actually very curious why the two machines cant get along. Seems like all the dirtbike riders dont like atvs except for a select few. I love ATVs and dirtbikes btw
@rogueelite The severity of the crash is directly proportional to the speed of the crashing bike, the air distance covered before impact, the quality/quantity of protective gear, and the stupidity of the rider.
@RavensHalo Hey thanks! I tried to make something watchable without all the annoying background music wiping out all the bike sounds. Nothing ruins a good mx video more than replacing ing the original engine audio with a dumb song.
@83anything Aw damn Im sorry for that. Dont let those people give us a bad name. Those people think that because the dont have to ballance that its eay as hell. Trust me thats not the case, plus if you crash going fast the atv fallows you instead of laying down. The skilled riders know what they are doing and are not idiots. Hope that lets you walk in my shoes a little bit
Dude.. He's just mentioning the depth of the drop in for that particular jump. Everyone knows there's bigger dunes. So please. Be real. I posted this video and we were clearing 150ft distances takeoff to landing this day on various jumps. Show us your video.
@iheartmyrappy I honestly dont like quads just because the riders are USUALLY idiots. If you want to see what i mean go to glamis. It used to be fun but now there are just a bunch of people that dont know how to ride and make it dangerous
wow a video that can be watched all the way to the end great job great jumps great video
Sweet bike and sweet video bro
finally a glamis video with bikes and not stupid quads. just like the old days. good job

i hope to go there some day
u guys have to go to New Zealand and experience riding here.
We did actually. I have a small rugged mobile unit on my crossbar pad.
Been a few years but I think at the time it was an FMF Power Core II
Honda CR 450s. Mostly stock cept for the pipes and the pro suspension.
that looks like amazing fun, unfortunately i live in England and we have nothing like that to ride on

that was beast mode
love the calafornia and arizona border dunes cause when i got off a like..20ft jump and fall it doesnt hurt as much =D

@iiRIDEmotocross Thanks! Music tends to ruin a lot of MX videos.

cowboys from hell by pantera from the begining of vid, hits perfectly, try it, al the way through
Ya every rider needs a permit I believe. Not sure if it's attached to the bike or not.. I forget.

well id have to say its located in cali right off of Niland Glamis Road
Just Google " Glamis imperial sand dunes" There's unlimited info on it. I just got back from there again last week. Got some good new helmet cam video to edit and post yet. Hope to have it up soon. Thanks for watching!
It's hundreds of thousands of acres of sand. There can be 10s of thousands of people there and it wouldn't seem too busy. Go anytime.
@rmsuzuki121

k thanks
i love glamis!
dang you guys were really far out. did you have gps?
@83anything ya quads are for dunes or show off and more of that stuff take the banshee thats a show quad even stock
What for these flags???
@mmacionk2 so when you go over a dune someone on the other side will see u and not jump rite on top of you when and if they decide to go over the side
What type of paddles is the guy jumping running?
when you guys went there did you have the sand tire for the front too....i don't know the exact name for it but would you recommend it or can you just use a regulary knobby in the front with a paddle tire in the rear? and with that set up i have a drz 250...is that enough for the sand?
Since no one else has wasted the time to reply... yes. These are 4 strokes. Sorry it had to be made clear for you.
does anyone know how full this place is on a normal summer weekend/week days
They are required to ride in the dunes. It's for safety so other riders can see you better. All vehicles, motorcycles and quads must have a flag to ride there.
The Honda XR models just don't have the power that the new 4 strokes do though.
450's nice bikes
what are the flags for?
grande prairie its not much of a dunes but its still fun
if i am 5'7" do you think i could ride the honda 450
Where is glamis located?
Doesn't cost a dime. But you have to have a flag on your machine. If you don't buy one ahead of time, you can buy one there, but it will cost you a lot more.

wouldnt someone just get lost there its a big open dunes lol it would be hard to figure out where u were
I'm running a cheap 8 paddle. Nothing special about it. I got it used 2 years ago actually.
No not really. You'll chunk it out and ruin it riding it on gravel for more than a short distance. Definitely you can't ride with it on any hard surface. Pavement or wood is an definite no-no. dus this place cost to go. do you have to book. is there a website or anything. thanks
How are the valves holding up on those 450s after riding them in the dunes hard like that?
how is it riding in the sand? id love to go somewhere like that one day and just open up the throttle haha.
are these bikes 4 strokes
@83anything how come you dont like quads? Im actually very curious why the two machines cant get along. Seems like all the dirtbike riders dont like atvs except for a select few. I love ATVs and dirtbikes btw
Can bikes be hired at glamis? i so want to ride there when we gets to usa on vacation
nice. how much did that cost you?
do i need a permit for all my dirtbikes?
i heard ur bike needs to be registered too?
@rogueelite
The severity of the crash is directly proportional to the speed of the crashing bike, the air distance covered before impact, the quality/quantity of protective gear, and the stupidity of the rider.

im from massachuesttes would it be worth the drive? haha thanks for the information how much are the permits?

@RavensHalo Hey thanks! I tried to make something watchable without all the annoying background music wiping out all the bike sounds. Nothing ruins a good mx video more than replacing ing the original engine audio with a dumb song.
@83anything Quads are the best
ya i live out in alberta canada and the only duneswe have is a long powerline thats half muskeg half sand lol it sucks
Would Riding In Dunes With Normal Dirt Tyres Be Good Or Shit
No, Quads might be though...
@83anything Aw damn Im sorry for that. Dont let those people give us a bad name. Those people think that because the dont have to ballance that its eay as hell. Hope that lets you walk in my shoes a little bit
You kinda sound like ray romano haha:)
No you don't have to do that. We are from the midwest. Just show up, pay your permit, get your flag and ride.
Dude.. He's just mentioning the depth of the drop in for that particular jump. Everyone knows there's bigger dunes. So please. Be real. I posted this video and we were clearing 150ft distances takeoff to landing this day on various jumps. Show us your video.
Nope. Just need a permit- you buy it when you get there to the Glamis store. And you need a flag.
only one permit is needed for yourself and family. the permit is like a parking permit it has nothing to do with the bikes
i would hate to run out of gas
i hit 4th pinned on my quad almost died lol
@iheartmyrappy I honestly dont like quads just because the riders are USUALLY idiots. If you want to see what i mean go to glamis. It used to be fun but now there are just a bunch of people that dont know how to ride and make it dangerous
Weak sauce!!!"LoL"
