  • Skip the mall food court and make this amazing Bourbon Chicken recipe right in your own kitchen! Savory, sweet and served over a bed of rice, this crowd pleasing chicken dish never disappoints, especially as it's covered in a delicious and wonderful sauce!
    INGREDIENTS
    • 8-10 boneless skinless chicken thighs
    • 3 tbsp Chef Ange Base Seasoning - • The ONLY Seasoning Ble...
    • 1 tsp smoked paprika
    • 1 tsp five spice powder
    • 5-6 tbsp olive oil
    • 5-6 garlic cloves, minced
    • 1” piece fresh ginger, minced
    • ¼ cup scallion greens, thinly sliced (for garnish)
    • ¼ cup bourbon
    • 1 tbsp soy sauce
    • 3 tbsp apple cider vinegar
    • ¼ cup apple juice
    • 2 tbsp ketchup
    • 1 tbsp beef bouillon paste
    • ¼ cup brown sugar
    • ½ - 1 tsp crushed red pepper, based on spicy preference
    • salt & fresh ground black pepper, to taste
    • 1/8 - ¼ tsp guar gum, or thickener of choice
    DIRECTIONS
    1. Season chicken thighs with 3-4 tbsp oil, Chef Ange Base Seasoning - • The ONLY Seasoning Ble... , paprika, and five spice powder. Mix until well coated and side aside at room temperature for 20 minutes.
    2. In a cast iron or heavy bottomed pan over medium high heat, sear chicken on both sides until golden brown, about 3-5 minutes per side. Work in batches to avoid overcrowding the pan and set chicken aside to cool. Turn heat off.
    3. Once cool enough to handle, cut chicken into bite sized pieces. Set aside and reserve any juices that collected on the plate where the chicken was resting.
    4. In the pan that you seared the chicken over a medium heat, add 1 tbsp oil and minced garlic and ginger. Begin to scrape the bottom of the pan. Add bourbon and ignite by tilting the pan and turning up the heat so the flame touches the liquid, or ignite with a lighter. Let alcohol burn off and add soy sauce, apple cider vinegar and apple juice. Mix until brown bits are well dissolved.
    5. Bring up to simmer and reduce heat to medium low. Add ketchup, bouillon paste, brown sugar, red pepper, salt & pepper. Whisk until all the ingredients are dissolved into the liquid. Add guar gum or thickener and whisk until smooth.
    6. Return cut up chicken back to pan and toss with sauce. Cover and simmer for 10-15 minutes over medium low to low heat.
    7. Remove from heat, toss with sauce and garnish with scallion greens. Serve over steamed white rice and garnish with more scallion greens.

Bourbon Chicken with soft noodles or rice was my favorite take out at the Mall food court . The food court has been closed for a few years to make room for some larger franchise restaurants.
I can not wait to make this .
Another great recipe. Thanks Chef A 💖

Well, here I am again ... about one year later (06-05-2024) -- got distracted after first watching, but we want to get back to Bourbon Chicken and perfecting our homemade recipe. It's just TOO EXPENSIVE to eat out, so we are learning how to Copycat Recipes that we like. So, we thank you @CA for helping all of us to do our best to stay in the Middle Class, because the Inflation with Food is outrageous.

Honestly is the number 1 reason I cook! Make great food at home for a fraction of what it costs to eat crappy food out. Don’t get me wrong, there are good restaurants I do enjoy but most are gross and bank on people not knowing how to cook. Enjoy!

You're definitely cooking something other than Bourbon Chicken, if you're putting bourbon in it.
There is no Bourbon in authentic Bourbon Chicken. That isn't where the name comes from.
