  • Mego Museum Presents the American West Toy Line. A comprehensive look at the 1974 action figure line based on characters from American History. Including Davey Crockett, Wild Bill Hickock, Cochise and Wyatt Earp. We explore the line, what didn't make it to market and how it was sold in foreign countries and the many comebacks this line had.
Check out our Mego playlist for MegoMuseum short films, restored Mego commercials, unboxings of new Mego figures and live feeds from the annual Mego Meet convention:

I had the original set from first time around. Loved playing with these and learning about the characters of the American West. They had a unique smell to them also. I was allowed to purchase one a week from our local market stall and counted down the days as the collection grew. The greatest part of my childhood was owning these figures and memories I will always treasure.

I'm lucky enough to own a Cochise (though missing his rifle and knife). In all my years of Mego collecting, I've never even seen any of the others in this line. Thanks for an informative and entertaining vid!

Also will you do a history of Dinah-Mite one day? Heck now that Mego is back, she could return too. ;) I saw that action Jackson came back.

I would need access to a Dinah collection to produce a video of her, not a huge obstacle as i know several fans.

have you done mego's 'love boat' action figures? curious as to how many lines were pilfered to cobble those together and why there were straight legged versions and knee joint versions.

Eventually, I'll get around to Love Boat.

We had some of the Johnny West action figures.
My oldest brother had General Custer and Sam Cobra. My second oldest brother had Captain Maddox and sheriff Pat Garrett.
I liked My brother Sam Cobra so much my parents got me a Sam clover that had a neck that stretched so you could hang him.
My sister like the Indians she had Geronimo and chief Cherokee.

I don't think they did! It must be some other manufacturer.

If they do reissue the Wild West figures, I would suggest not doing Cochise or Sitting Bull unless it's with tribal involvement, Apache & Lakota respectively. I can't see that going over well now.
They'd be a tough sell in a mass market with how the wild west as a concept has changed. West World being the only current popular cowboy media
If they do they should try lesser known but still cool historical cowboys & lawmen, like Bass Reeves, who's amazing in his own right, some outlaws like Pearl Hart, Joaquin Murieta the possible inspiration for Zorro or even greats like Pancho Villa
