Great job mate. Love your attitude! I often think those runners out on the course for 6+ hours actually have a tougher run than those getting home in 3hrs. Long time to be on your feet :)
@@brentona75 thank you ! I’m just out having fun with exercise and enjoying each moment even when it seems I’m not lol I agree takes way more mental endurance the longer on your feet lol
Fantastic video. Well done. Have my very first marathon in 11 days and will be doing about the same pace. Thanks for the inspiration. Good luck in Chicago.
Congrats and well done! I also did my first marathon at the Sydney 2024 and you were a huge inspiration from your past videos - ‘I didn’t say I’d be fast..’ was my mantra. Amazing day and couldn’t be happier Thank you and I’m planning to do the double in GC in July. I didn’t say I’d be fast!
Haha how good is that as a mantra ! But it’s true and remember that as it was your first marathon it was a PB! So congratulations on getting it done! I’m so glad to hear I was able to inspire you 😊 same time next year? I’ll be there 🙌
Well done for pushing through & finishing 👍 I've done 2 marathons myself, but nothing as big as this event. That was quite eye opening though - the mess at that first drink stop & later with all the gels on the road. Wow. Those poor volunteers having to clean that up! But the sweeper at the back was quite brutal - "You need to move"! That can't be a pleasant job.
Thank you it was certainly one of the biggest events I’ve ran, all the drinks tops were very much messy but the volunteers did their best to keep it clean , I’ve had worse drinks stations at other events to be honest , and yes so many gels!! At least people were putting them all in a similar spot , I completely agree he didn’t need to be so aggressive telling them to keep moving I’ve seen it handled better and also worse then this , but I know slow runners like myself want to see what happens at the back at big events like this to know what to expect I guess , I’m running Chicago next month and I know I’ll be pushing to make cutoff so I’m prepared for the forceful nature of the sweeper on course to get the roads cleared to reopen to cars as long as they are respectful to say you can keep running just move to the sidewalk that’s fine with me
@@Flyingdave88 let me say that last 3kms around Mrs Macquarie's chair down to the finish is just so cruel hey but it was awesome, looking for the next one already

Hey! I watched your Gold Coast and Sydney videos. About to watch Wueenstown as friends did that. I’ve signed up for Gold Coast 2025 and it’s my first Marathon. Thanks for the footage of the sweeper, do t you get kicked off if they catch you? Not judging your time but why didn’t they catch you if you were not under the 7 hours? Wasn’t that the cut off? I’m worried about the sweeper in the Gold Coast haaa! I have so much to learn.
@@CacklingShelley thanks for watching them! Yes as a slow back of the pack runner you gotta be cautious of those sweepers but what they do it get you off the roads but your still to finish but you’ll have to follow the footpaths instead as they reopen the roads and the aid stations may not be manned anymore , Queenstown however is different if they sweep you off the course your done as the roads aren’t wide enough to safely walk down when reopened, I ran the Sydney marathon this year in 6hr40min , the time above on the finish line is time from when the elites started their run and with big marathons like Sydney if your in the last starting wave you could be starting an hour or so after the first runners go, some marathons only have the course open for 6hr others 7hrs and others 12hrs you need to study the course and the road closures if your slower like me haha and then you know what cut offs you need to make and when , some marathons don’t start the closure cut offs until after the last runner has started , it’s all location dependent but Sydney is pretty generous and has the longest cut off time of all the majors
Well done on a great run! Just out of interest - did you have preplanned walking intervals or did you just walk when you felt you had to? And do many people walk a lot of it? I’d like to do the run but not sure I’d back myself to run the full 42km
Hey mate great question , I’ve tried different race plans over the marathons and it honestly depends on how the body is holding up on the day depending on conditions , but normally I go out run a comfortable pace for the first 10-15k then start to do intervals of walk/run and the ratio of that changes as the run goes on , Sydney is great for slow runners as it has a generous 7hr cut off time and there were plenty of people walking the last 30K , don’t walk like a casual stroll but more like rope drop at Disney haha
@@scottbanbury6511 thank you so much for saying that! It was truely one of my more mentally tough runs but so happy and proud of myself for the resilience and some might say stubbornness it took haha
