Their is no benefit for this man to tell lies. Old people remember almost every detail of important matters, and they love to tell stories about their past. My ancestors are Magee's in Mississippi and my 3rd great grandfather was interviewed years before I was born and I was lucky enough to find a book written about his life as a slave, its highly likely Sylvester Magee is one of my ancestors. Ive found some awesome stories that were told by my ancestors and have no reason to think any of them made them up

@@vvmax4375 He could have been off by some years but that doesn’t mean his story is false. A little IQ goes along way. He could have been very young when fighting in the Civil War. I don’t think they cared too much about how old black boys and men were, just as long as they could provide some value. It is very likely this man was telling the truth from all the evidence

It's honestly crazy and ironic that this one guy was the symbolic nexus for so much of America's history. Not only the last freed slave, but the last Civil War veteran for BOTH sides of the war. And if true with the South, it would be both ironic and poetic that the last Confederate veteran was not just a black man, but a freed slave.

"he wound up a slave". Yeah... that's how that works when you're, according to Sylvester's story, born to slaves.

Free born blacks from the North were sometimes taken as slaves if, for instance, they visited the South and didn't have, or lost, their paperwork (or it was just not believed or ignored).

Repent and trust in Jesus. Hes the only way. We deserve Hell because weve sinned. Lied, lusted stolen, etc. But God sent his son to die on the cross and rise out of the grave. We can receive forgiveness from Jesus. Repent and put your trust in him.
