I think one's taste is a personal thing..as we mature musically we leave others behind as we move outwards. In the end, we are often so far out that no one is where we are..perhaps a few like Rick rocking along in ecstasy, on the hill in the far distance.

I can feel Rick's enthusiasm but not for this type of tune. I admit that the melody is interesting but for me there are too many notes here, I don't have a specific feeling rather just something like "this is crowded". Obviously it's a matter of taste.

The Köln Concerto and Belonging were my introductions to KJ as a teenager back in the 90's. As a Norwegian, the fact that the rest of the quartet is Scandinavian and that Belonging was recorded in my hometown of Oslo was kinda cool, too.

The thing that made this video extra special to me was, it felt like you were taking us on a familiar ride - the ride so many of us music lovers have had, of discovery and obsession and grasping for understanding and mastery of the music that speaks to us. As others have said, it’s contagious, and it brings me back to a younger age, where things were fresh and new and exciting.

A colleague who happened to be Swiss turned me onto Keith Jarrett around the time this album came out. I fell in love with the sound this band had. Watching Rick Beato review and teach all the intricacies of musicians fascinates me. In honor of my friend who introduced me to jazz, I am subscribing to Ricks' channel.

Ok Beato, I'm a 69 year old bassist, prog rock, blues rock ect but I was also Stevie Ray Vaughan's close friend. A few months before his death Stevie put me in charge of finding him a jazz teacher. I had checked out North Texas State University, known for their Stan Kenton library and Lab Bands but before I could solidify anyone, he passed away. I see now how much info is available now. I will end this by saying, I purchased your Beato book and The Tim Pierce Masterclass. I'm really happy this information is now available at our fingertips. Youngsters have no idea how much easier it is to learn now I notice a decline in feel that I attribute to step by step instructions. Anyway, I am now crossing the bridge from blues to jazz because quite frankly it's the last bastion of art in most music nowadays. BTW, I had this conversation on feel in current music with Doyle Bramhall Sr shortly before his demise. Keep up the good work Professor!

One of my favorite albums of all time. This is what made me want to learn jazz piano. I too have listened to this particular melody thousands of times. Listening to this as a kid what also blew my mind was how the drums somehow hold down the groove without ever actually repeating a specific pattern. The entire album is basically a drum solo.

YES! I get this with most songs from 2000/2001, lots of hiphop songs from those years also have incredibly well produced tunes, think about the intro of “Ja Rule - Put It On Me”, just viibe that intro, ja rule just starts rapping too darn early! 😂 but also the refrain with backup vocals of “where my girls at” by 702. I guess I also like songs that have some mantric element to them, that’s why in my opinion the best Beatles’ song is ‘Words of Love’. However the songs that really stick with me because they reach the depth of my feelings are melancholic songs like “All Good Things Come to an End” by Nelly Furtado, especially those what I call ‘blowing sand sounds’.
