I was wondering the same thing and why Craig didn't wait a second longer and go ATP, given Pesa's being a lefty... Too risky for a topspin backhand ask if second later???
Love the break down! At 9:05 since the white shirt player on our right just executed a good drop why doesn't his partner just run straight to the Kitchen line instead of a split stop in the transition zone?
Because this is what high level players do. Most players that sprint up to the line without stopping can easily get caught by higher level player’s attacks. Also, when you are balanced, you can explode to attack when necessary.
Thank you! Will do! We’ll actually be in Colorado Springs soon, I’ll be teaching there! If you’re interested, check it out below! www.brionespickleball.com/colorado
great video. especially liked the emphasis on the players moving together on both sides. @12:05 in, do you think kyle may have been a step or two deep? Seems like he’s having to reach and had he been closer to the NVZ line could have made a more aggressive shot to attack the line. Was his “back from line” position a consideration in hitting to him? thx!
Caden is very offensive at the net, so any lifted dink, will be attacked right at Kyle. In this scenario, Kyle gives himself some extra reaction time, just in case Craig pops it up.
great! Do you think what got the player on the left was the off speed "attack" by the lefty? He was looking for more pace and didnt get it which is why he had to jump a little ?
It could have been, but if you look at it real time, it wasn’t that slow of an attack. Knowing Pesa, he was just trying to shove it to an uncomfortable position to find a pop up, which he did.
Great advice on watching your partner field the serve! I did it for the first time today and it made all the difference. It allowed me to gauge the difficulty of the serve and the strength or weakness of my partner’s return. Before I would always crowd the net and get destroyed when my partner had a weak return. Now I can adjust and position myself for a smarter play.
Lots of great stuff here. I'm not fully convinced about the idea that it's always best to watch your partner for as long as it's done in the first point of this video. There are some solid reasons given for watching your partner's return given here, yet there are some important offensive advantages for not watching your partner or for watching your partner to a certain point. The important thing to realize is that when done purposefully, both approaches can give distinct advantages. I still lean a bit in the direction that only watching your partner to the point that it's known where the serve is going is plenty. I want to turn my attention to the opponent's position and response to the return as soon as possible. For me, watching my partner's return go by me is unnecessary and it sacrifices the benefits of purposefully watching my opponents respond to my partner's return off of his paddle. Again, fantastic content here! Thanks for the wonderfully helpful videos.
Thanks for the comment. All pros watch the return. Remember, your opponents have to let the ball bounce, so there’s no reason to keep your eyes on your opponents until they hit the ball.
Great instructional video. Haven't come across anyone doing this kind of slo-mo analysis. It was VERY helpful. Kind of like magicians showing us how the tricks were done. Please keep making these videos. Also appreciate getting the emails that include the videos.
Hi. This is a great breakdown. I have a question. In response to the 3rd shot drop, why did Caden choose to cross court to Craig rather than to Kyle’s feet (who had taken a few steps into No Man’s Land)? Thanks.
great video, love the slow-mo breakdowns. It would be cool to do a video where you show 6 or 7 different serves and returns in a row just to break down how different serves setup a better return, etc... Just to analyze that one aspect of the game. Thanks!
@@BrionesPickleballI thought it could be to create confusion for the serving team who are trying to drop to the open side, and if you switch, they are now facing someone standing there instead of a person running up.
Great video! Please keep doing more of these. I did have a question regarding Caden’s dink he gave down the line to Kyle - wouldn’t that have been a potential Erne for Kyle? I feel like in my level of play (around 3.5) a down the line dink is tough to deliver right?
so good to watch the break down. this is such an important teaching tool for me as a recreational player who does not have the opportunity for a coach thank you. please do more.
Notice you guys are at the net after the serve. Know there is a 2-bounce rule, would this give you opponent an opportunity to drive the ball at you or lob?
to be fair, the one returning with a slice chose the wrong return shot when pesa was advancing to the front. instead of slicing that return to the middle he should have gone for a hard topspin to scorhers' right side of court which would have been also a shot down the sideline, and the position was actually advantageous to do it. somehow the slice was chosen and the initiative was lost even a hard return to pesa's side would have been a good shot because he was moving and returning when he was running would have been harder? my opinion anyway and please educate me thanks
At higher levels sometimes it’s tactical and using your strengths over going for “a shot”. Craig doesn’t typically drive the ball on his BH side, and he has a very reliable drop to get him to the NVZ. This is a smart shot choice. Depending on what shots are in your arsenal, you must make good decisions on the fly. An amateur here may choose to drive it down the line, and make an error to the net or hit it wide.
That was awesome! You are so right - the small things are happening so fast, you can't see them in real time. I learned a ton from this video and the explanation from both of you.Thank you very much!!
Exactly! I always wish we had a mirror to be able to see what my own body is doing but a slowed down video with excellent commentary is beyond helpful! Keep this up and I might actually improve my game!!!!! Thank you
I really loved seeing the entire point played out from start to finish. It was very helpful to hear all of the pointers that you don't see at full-speed. It's all of those little things that added up to success. I'd watch more of these point breakdowns anytime. Thank you!
Great job guys! I love all the detail about anticipation, positioning, shading, reading the swings and the paddles. So many good fundamentals, as well as advanced play.
guys. 5 stars. love the slow mo breakdown. especially with one of you on the video. gives us perspective on your skills plus makes it more entertaining and informative. keep up the late nights !!!
IMHO I would enjoy your videos more if you were to pick 10 exchanges within a game and break them as offensive plays, defensive, and what is important to consider.
For beginners, returning the serve on the run is not ideal. I see too many beginners with bad service returns if their feet are not set. Try to have both feet firmly grounded whenever possible.
You knock it out the park with this one I've recommended your videos to others who love them as well. The only thing that would make them better is to have your beautiful wife in them.
I tried to watch this. I really wanted to like it. While I can appreciate the intention to slow things down and get into the details, this is--for me, anyway--way to slow. I don't think we need to see the same backhand dink 25 times--really, I counted! So please keep making videos, but please restrain yourselves from going into such excruciating and needless detail.
Great team explanations--hoping you continue this type of teaching
Thanks Peter !
Excellent breakdown. I like the strategy breakdown.
Glad you enjoyed it!
LOVE IT! Please do more of these.

Love this analysis. Question: could Craig have gone for an ATP at 10:20?
Maybe, but I think it would have been tough
I was wondering the same thing and why Craig didn't wait a second longer and go ATP, given Pesa's being a lefty...
Too risky for a topspin backhand ask if second later???
I know most of this theory. What I found most interesting was reading the opponent's body language to plan your next move.
👍🏻👍🏻
I like the slowmo play-by-play analysis and please follow up with more like this.

This was great! More, please. 😊

Can you please do a future video about shot placement and percentages? Thankyou!!!

Hi. This is a great breakdown. I have a question. In response to the 3rd shot drop, why did Caden choose to cross court to Craig rather than to Kyle’s feet (who had taken a few steps into No Man’s Land)?
Thanks.
It’s always a lot harder to slice down the line and is more risky. The easier shot (most of the time) is cross court.

Great suggestion!
Jordan, why does the receiving team switch when receiving the Serve?
High level strategy, so that they can have their strong forehands in the middle of the court.

love the strategy discussion...good job...keep this content going

Normal to run around the kitchen rather than cut across it to get back to court after your Erne?
the floor is lava!
