Sky News host fact checks Linda Burney's ‘bizarre’ cordial statement to sell the Voice

  • Sky News host Andrew Bolt has fact-checked a “bizarre” statement from Indigenous Australians Minister Linda Burney about cordial in an attempt to sell the Voice to Parliament.
“Yesterday Burney did go off script, just briefly, to try to push people’s emotional buttons to support the Voice and made this extraordinary claim to explain why we needed the Voice written into our constitution,” he said.
Ms Burney claimed in parliament when questioned about the Voice that she had been to communities where babies are “drinking sweet cordial” instead of water because it’s “cheaper”.
“I fact-checked - a litre of cordial at Aldi, for instance, on special at a discount store ... is just over $2, but Woolies is meanwhile selling 10 litres of bottled water for just $6.40; that works out to 64 cents a litre, less than a third of the price of discount cordial,” M Bolt said.
“So, I’m calling bull on Burney’s argument.”

If it was really so important Albo could have legislated it on the first sitting of Parliament. They want it in the Constitution so it can never be removed if it becomes as corrupted as previous incarnations of Aboriginal Voices to Parliament such as ATSIC. As Marsha Langton said unless it is in the Constitution so no-one can ever remove it she does not support a VOICE. And did Albo and Burney listen to Voice of the Aboriginal delegation elected by their community in far north Western Australia when they visited Canberra recently to talk with Albo and Burney as they had not heard of the voice or the Uluru statement of the Heart(their community was not invited to discussions)? NO! they and all members of the ALP and Aboriginal Industry in Canberra refused to meet with this delegation. ALP etc do NOT listen to Aboriginal VOICES today so why will they listen if the referendum succeeds. Just another pigs noses in the trough entity.

Well said Andrew. I'll give some good solutions so indigenous parents don't have to force their children to drink cordial in their water. Make all the government departments, State and Federal, publicly reveal how much money has been granted to such bodies as Land Councils and public servants running around in brand new Land Cruisers and Toyota Prado's supposedly supporting their indigenous community during the last 30 years. Then show us where it has all been spent. I don't see any special indigenous hospitals or schools, and why in 2023 do we still have some members of the indigenous community in rural Australia still living in humpies and derelict cars? Where have all the billions of $$$$$ gone? I'll tell you - Not to those who really need it.

Some of the scripts were written by the Attorney General. The question about Mayo's desire to dismantle our democracy is valid. Senator Thorpe said as much the other day in Parliament. I also note that the PM in recent speeches has refrained from mentioning the voice, instead he talks about recognition and reconciliation. The PM has the power to introduce legislation to have the voice placed into Parliament. If it is that urgent and will cure all the ills facing Indigenous people, why hasn't he done it?

So we need a multi-million $ Voice to advise the minister some children were being fed sweetened cordial when she found out directly by talking with a citizen. What measures did she immediately take to determine how widespread this practice was & what measures to implement to stop this practice! I'll have a private guess what the answer is.

  • @harrycopeland8322

Considering that the PM and his ministers have no denounced Thomas Mayos comments, we can only assume that they support them. Linda Burney in fact, reckons that Mayo is a decent fellow. I have a theory - If you are wondering about the fine print of the Voice and what will happen after the referendum - I have been reading the UN General Assembly on the rights of Indigenous people. There are numerous chapters, but it essentially says that Indigenous people have the right for self determination. This is interesting, because when Gough Whitlam started campaigning for aboriginal rights, that was his main goal and various Labour governments have continued in this vein. Now, Gough is Albanese’s hero and he wants to emulate Gough and live up to Gough’s expectations or even go one better and deliver Gough’s goal and deliver the UN General Assembly goals.
This also fits with the goals of the 1982 National Aboriginal Conference, where a draft Makaratta detailed requirements for self determination or Aboriginal Sovereignty. There are some pretty scary demands in this Draft (eg tax relief for 195 years, payment of 5% of GDP for 195 years etc- research it for yourself). Aboriginal Sovereignty was also the main driver at the Canberra Tent Embassy. Articles from this Makaratta appear also to be included in the Uluṟu Statement from the Heart. Marcia Langton and Patrick Dodson would be most aware of the 1982 Makaratta. And the kicker - In 2022 an expression of interest was released by Penny Wong for an Aboriginal Ambassador to “lead indigenous perspectives experiences and interests into foreign policy and First Nations trade and investment” - I expect because the Voice has further un-mentioned goals. So, when Albanese says “trust us”, it will all be worked out after the referendum. Just like his pre-election promises - that has worked out too well.
So why doesn’t the government want to give out further details on the Voice? In absence of any detail from the government, it can only be concluded that Aboriginal self determination or Aboriginal Sovereignty is the clear driver behind the Voice and these details are what is being kept from the Australian people. So a No vote would be appropriate.
