My first video for 2018 was both the fastest and the most painful. It was so cold that batteries and remotes kept freezing up, and I had to take my gloves off to operate the camera. My hands stung when I warmed them back up! Will be on road again in a few days. Slim
SO cold! Thanks for all you do for us, your viewers. I have this hope you'll be discovered and get your own TV show! As a fellow northerner I'm inspired to try this amazing trick, only without attempting to film it of course. Thanks again. You rock.
I was out there doing the same thing, although I think your video is better. Such a neat thing to watch, only the cold drove me back inside. So many bubbles to get one that would last long enough to freeze though. It's an adventure just being outside when it is that cold and then to get to see such a beautiful thing happen is an added bonus.
Original snow globes from Mother Nature! Your comfortableness in the sub-zero temps is inspiring. I feel for your camera equipment...and your frozen fingers. The time you must have spent warming up equipment, water, fingers, etc. is not lost on me. Thanks for the time you took to share this magical, nature wonder.
I wanted to tell you how Awesome that was. Bubbles freezing on contact was a great way to spend New Years Eve. You make Academy Award videos Slim. I am always waiting impatiently for your next adventure. Happy 2018 to Slim Potatohead.
Did I really had to get to 50 years of age to witness one of the most beautiful nature phenomena? Wow man, thanks for this video, what a cool thing to show us!
Back in the early 80's I used to work for a company that injection-blow molded plastic bottles of all shapes and sizes. One the bottles we made for our bottle customers was for the colorful "Bubble Bottles" that are full of soap and come with a plastic ring that parents buy for their kids to blow soap bubble with. At the time way back then and in all the many years/decades since I have never imagined, or seen, this done with soap bubbles. Thank you Slim Potatohead.
Only lived in this freezer my entire life, never would have thought of that one! Beautiful, well done, and gives us Alberta folks a reason to step outside, well maybe. Best of the New Year to you, Lisa from Abraham Lake.
Potatoe this is so beautiful. I love that you appreciate how beautiful our world is. People forget now days or focus on materialism. We should try to enjoy it before it's gone. Keep making beautiful videos potatoes🥔🥔💙! I'm going to try this if it gets cold enough !
I was born and raised in San Diego, there was only 10 degrees on our thermometer. I have never seen bubbles freeze, it was wonderful to see. Thank you for standing out in the freezing cold to capture the beauty of a bubble being overtaken by the cold.
U folks up north can have that double down cold weather, but watching the bubbles freeze was a real treat. Thank U. lol I watching this in August in Kansas. Looks refreshing!!!
Wow! I just found your channel a couple weeks back and have been catching up. I find the videos informative and relaxing. This one captures such delicate beauty! Thank you!
If I had to pick only one favorite youtube video, "Nature's Snow Globes" would be it. I'm so thankful for Mother Nature. (...and for you in sharing your documentary of Mother Nature.
Thank you so much Slim for this video. It was magical. I've lived in the southern United States all my life and only recently was blessed to see and be in the snow as it was snowing up until recently my only experience with snow was when I woke up and it was already on the ground. This video was so pleasant. I would have loved to been there doing the same thing. I've never seen it done before. Thank you again for your best wishes this year which I return with a grateful heart and for the magic.
Thanks Rebecca, glad to hear you liked my video. Nature is always magical, sometimes you just have to slow down a little to appreciate the beauty. Enjoy it! SP
Snow Globes, so appropriately named and amazingly beautiful! Thank you, Mr. Slim, for braving the cold (and possibly frostbite!) to bring us this awesome New Year video gift. Happy and safe adventures . . . all the best to you this 2018 :))
Whoa! Too Cool! Thanks, I never thought about freezing bubbles but then I live on The Gulf Coast in Texas so I don't think I would ever have to chance to do this. It was incredible to watch. I can't wait for your future adventures. Thanks, again, Slim. Take care and be safe. And Happy New Year!
That is so cool. Makes me wish it got that cold here, um no I don't. I live in an area surrounded by temperate rainforest. It rarely gets below 10c or above 30c. So this was magical to me, thanks. Happy New Year!
Happy New Year to you too. In my younger days, I read a book by Farley Mowat. I think it was called "Never Cry Wolf". In that book he stated that, if you spit at -50C it would freeze before it hit the Ground. While working near Great Bear Lake in North West Territories many years ago, I tried this at -62C. It works, it made a very loud popping noise and froze before it hit the ground.
That's wild! Coldest I know I've ever been in is about 15 degrees F. I've probably been in colder, since I do recall visiting a grandmother in Buffalo, NY in the winter. I was too young to remember, but I've seen pictures of me in snow deeper than I was tall at the time! Happy New Year, Slim! Keep the fun videos coming. I always enjoy what you put out!
Awesome video! It must have taken forever to line up the drum beats with the popping of the bubbles. I have learned a lot not just from your content but from how you shoot. I hope to incorporate some of your techniques in future vids. Thanks for all you do and happy new year!
Yes, the first drum beat to the bubble burst drove me nuts! Sometimes I edit the music to suit the images but this time I left the music intact and made the images flow with it. Not perfect but it was fun! Thanks!
Amazing video, Slim, and what a great way to start 2018. Found the bubbles fascinating! Never likely to see THAT in South East Queensland, Australia. Looking forward to more of your offerings this year, some of which I will view “on the road in Oz” in my Avan that’s due for delivery in a couple of months! Happy New Year!
That was like magic, I've never seen that before. But living in California, I wouldn't....LOL. I did read parts of Canada were colder then Mars, but I bet no one on Mars is doing what you just did. Have a Happy New Year.
I know it's been two years ago maybe you'll catch this and maybe you won't but that has to be the most awesome thing I believe I've ever seen my grandson is going to love doing this that is if we happen to get cold enough we're going to try at 32 degrees and colder as it goes I live in West Virginia so we get some pretty chilly days. Just for your information I got pretty curious so I blew some bubbles and to our freezer they didn't freeze right off but they did stick to the side so I close the door and later you'll know more. Thanks for the demonstration something our grandson is going to love have a great day and stay safe
Amazing! I can’t believe I never knew that or experimented during the 3 years I lived in Rapid City, South Dakota. I’ve forwarded it to my daughters and grandson and great grandsons. Why didn’t they teach this in chemistry and geology classes and mineralogy class when teaching about crystal structure?
We had an entire month in Rapid City when the temp remained -40F. And I was daily walking 2 mi to school at South Dakota School of Mines & Technology. Slim, you could have been a visiting professor to the Geology Dept. and lectured on this process of freezing water bubbles!
Very cool, or should I say frigid? When I get on the road my goal will be to never experience the frigid weather, unless I want to go cross country skiing.
Hi Doug, I put the ingredients in the description, about a tablespoon of detergent and glycerin in a glass of water. Freezes up in a few minutes (as does the straw) so have another warm one as backup! Thanks, Slim
I loved watching the crystals swirl around. I have never seen this done before.

Worth it! Truly inspiring!

👍I don’t like cold weather, but every time I watch this video I smile. 😃💞
Why hasn't this video gone viral? I have to say, I think this one is my favorite. You videos make me feel like a kid again. Thanks for that.
Did I really had to get to 50 years of age to witness one of the most beautiful nature phenomena?

Wow, how amazing and so beautiful ...Never seen anything like it ...Nature is a wonderful thing ...Thank you for sharing.
Thanks Slim....I think I will keep driving by NoseHill rather than walking up it in those temps...Happy southern travels!
After watching that demonstration you have to believe in magic! Amazing and very entertaining!
That was incredible! I turned the speed down to .25 to watch the crystals form!
If I had to pick only one favorite youtube video, "Nature's Snow Globes" would be it.
I'm so thankful for Mother Nature. (...and for you in sharing your documentary of Mother Nature.
Wow! Wow! Wow! So beautiful! Thank you for the recipe. Showing it to my grandson!
This was brilliant!!! Can't wait to do the frozen bubbles with the grandchildren when the cold weather comes again...
Many thanks.
David in the UK.
This is really cool! I have lived in areas that are cold but never thought of this, I'll have to give it a try next time its super cold in Colorado!
Loved watching that! You have a Happy New Year as well. Looking forward to you sharing your next adventures.

Totally amazing, hot water turning into steam. I worked on the Trans-Alaska Pipeline at Prudhoe Bay 1975-78. Wishing I had that knowledge then. THANKS
That was SOOOO COOOOOL! It's pretty cold here in Michigan, but nothing like that!
Very cool, figuratively and literally!
Another cool vid Mr. Potatohead. Natures amazing structures and geometry. Great luck to you in your 2018 adventures!

Now THAT is pretty cool! Thanks kid! 😉
And just like that, you made flowers grow in the cold!!! And diamonds, and wonder worlds trapped in spheres... all magic comes at a price though :)
