Wow at last a jazz specialist who can explain every detail who makes it easy for us students to absorb the information that matters most of all and the plus side is you get to understand the functionality of jazz harmony just brilliant
This is the best player's explanation of the tritone I have encountered. The alterations make all the difference! Great stuff as always, Thank You...! ;-)
Another great lesson from Her Majesty! Being as busy as you are with your other projects, you are still taking the time to produce excellent tutorials packed with such valuable information. Your dedication is definitely appreciated, it takes a lot of knowledge, time and effort to produce this high quality lessons. Great T-Shirt, but most of all, multi-talented and beautiful Sandra!
Thank you so much for your appreciation! It means so much to me. Hope you're doing alright. I'm enjoying warmer temperatures here. Are you going on vacation this summer?
@@GuitarversumSandraSherman You are very welcome Sandra, it’s getting hot in Phoenix, but it is still bearable. I’m doing very well and I hope that you and your loved ones are happy and healthy. Yes, I plan to go on vacation this summer; every year I go to San Carlos, in Sonora, Mexico. The Lord willing, in July I’ll be by the beach, fishing, jogging, swimming and playing my guitar under the palm trees. I really enjoy watching your videos while I’m over there, looking at the ocean, hearing the sea waves crashing and watching the dolphins go by. Thank you again for being who you are, so genuine and lovely.
Wow, I envy you. Never been to Mexico. From what I've seen and heard it must be fantastic. And the people are so nice. Here everyone's just grumpy, lol.
@@GuitarversumSandraSherman Hi Sandra! If you and your husband ever plan to come to Mexico, I offer myself as your personal guide. I know that you are multi-lingual, but having someone that knows the people and the land is always helpful. Blessings and best wishes.
Thanks, Barry! I remember what a revelation it was back then, when I found out that all those scales were just modes of the melodic minor scale. I like showing my students the chords to visualize the relations. That's always a game changer for them. They know each of those chords, but most just never found the correlation between them. Sometimes the simplest things change everything 😊. I consider it my job to emphasize these things.
Something I just remembered. When analyzing some Charlie Parker solos, I noticed that he would use tritone substitutions sometimes in a four chord cycle of fifths.
Again an excellent lesson, Sandra - as usual 😊.Thank you so much for your effort. And you explain so well 👍. Tritone substitution has been a neglected topic for me because I didn’t manage to get started, was too complicated for me. But now, with the help of your great explanations, I will dig into it - opens my mind - and will keep me busy for a long time. The tabs and backing tracks are very, very helpful. One question: What you play at the beginning of the video (00:00-00:28) is not the 10 licks but an improvisation? Thanks, Birgit
greetings from BC Canada.......nice ...great stuff on the chords , jazz is fun ..ps - right you are on the Bb minor not a Eb minor over the G alt .............im new at jazz but it seems like the Eb minor pent fits over the Galt in its own ...chromatic jazzy way ????
@@GuitarversumSandraSherman ...roger wilco on that , im still trying to play around with stuff and could be way off but that Eb minor pent -into G diminished (i think also has the F# ...?) on the way to the one ( C maj ) chord ...sounds like back alley cat jazz to me - its fun to experiment .......
Regarding mini lessons. I can watch them and see the tabs while using my tablet or phone. But I can't comment on them. I get a strange message that comments are disabled on mobile devices or sometimes that my TH-cam app isn't the latest version. But If I use my laptop, I can comment.
I´m glad I was never able to delve TOO deep in theory .. I think I would be overthinking something that would better come up on itself, naturally, you know ? And I do have a classical guitar upbringing since 1972 or so... it was not jazz, but anyway.. you get the picture
@@GuitarversumSandraSherman You may be right.. 😂 what I meant though, is I can never imagine playing something and thinking: Oh, this sus is so great, and now I have to go to 11/13 something... you see ?

No one explains complicated jazz theory like you do. That's why I love this channel so much. Thanks for all you do, we love you!
Ahhhw, you're too sweet
I love "complicated" because it really gets me thinking so more deeply. You really are a great teacher, a maverick of a thinker and super guitarist!
I'm not sure what "a maverick as a thinker" da, but I'm sure it's compliment 😊
Great, great lesson. So much information in not even 20 minutes. Thanks a million!!!
Thank you so much 🧡

Thanks for your continuing support, Henry! ❤️
Excellent tutorial!
Thank you!
That connection on melodic minor scale is interesting.
Yeah, I like to find connections 💡
super helpful as always, I think I had a light bulb moment 💡
✌🏻😉, thanks Sandra 👍🏻

hello beautiful I am from the Dominican Republic and I am very happy to listen to your video I am also a guitar musician too
Professor Sherman, you continue to blow my mind. Tritone subs seem to mindlessly slip into our playing, but you tell us why and how🙏😁

Beautiful. Sounds like Joe Pass
Interesting! A teacher had me play the A b melodic minor over G alt. Never thought of it as a Db #11.
I love these kinda a-ha moments 💡

Yes, all notes, except the Gb/F#, which is the major 7th over a dominant 7th chords.

Ernie Ball Prodigy Mini 2mm
