I watched all 7 parts. Twice. This is amazing... I showed this video to the offroad comunity here in Israel, people were absolutely amazed here after watching your vids. I mean, we have here beautifull desert scenery, but nothing like the desert in Utah. What impressed me most was the way you tackled crazy obsticles at such low RPM and patience...such smart riding. I read that you raced mx in the late 70's and recently won (at 2010) a super senior class enduro race. Which means that you're not
Thanks for the great coverage of a great trail. I made it out there Oct 2011. What a blast! I think that doing it solo, while being a bit sketchy, would make the experience even more incredible.
I'm in!! That is just the kind of riding we have been looking for... So different to what we have here in Queensland, Australia. Well done with the vid. Great stuff!!!
5MOH is by fare the toughest trail I have ever done. Hit it last year on my 12 500 xc-w. Funny thing is this year I,m on a 300 xc and I'd rather do this on my 500 at this point. Maybe with a recluse in the 300 but I am still trying to get used to these 2-ts. That 500 will grunt up anything I swear with very little clutch work. Thanks for sharing and I love the trails you ride.
nice riding man..dont know if you prefer to ride alone or the only one who got outa bed.i used to ride regardless if anyone else wanted to but got hit head on by a car while on my streetbike so dread the idea of having to push myself out alone. or worse..but props to ya..thats what a real rider does...gives me motivation to get moving again..
whoa...it even looks like hell :) not that I know what hell looks like yet, but that's gotta be close! You completely rip, great throttle & clutch control, you are one hell of a trail rider.
wow, that looks intimidating in the video, and videos never do the terrain justice. I know where I'm heading next. should be a good challenge for my heavy steel framed yz426.
Yeah that's probably exactly what it is. Didn't think about that. Still looks very good and I didn't notice it on any of your videos till just now! I need to look into this new Sony cam. Rekluse kit or camera? Hmm.
I have not fouled a plug in years. Jetting, try a leaner pilot jet if it is loading up and fouling the plug at low rpm. Make sure your running a clean air filter and do not over oil it. I mix my fuel/oil at 50:1.
I think recording in 30fps may be part of the issue? Many "curb" like jolts, very difficult to keep head still. I think recording at 60fps may help? Or having a stabilization system for the camera. Sony has a new POV camera coming out soon, that has image stabilization.
I have a Fox Racing hydration pack. I used the mid sized one, 60 oz.? From my camp, the loop only took two hours. I would have only taken a couple sips, if that? Not a hot day, low 70's.
No SPOT, but it would be a good idea to have one. I just let people know where I was going and when to expect me back. If I did not return at a certain time, to come looking for me. Had so much fun I joined a group and went for a 75 mile ride in the afternoon.
Dude!! 5 miles of Heaven more like!!! here in the UK we have deep wet mud and if there's any rocks it's wet slate!! then the rain stops for a couple of weeks each year and everywhere dries like concrete with choking dust... :-( actually, d'you know what...? - I'm gonna move...! well done great vid by the way...z
hey ORR15 nice ride. I watched 2 of these while riding the airdyne & think I went farther (7.6 miles) then you did during the ride. ha ha ha I'll be watching these a few times cause heading to Moad in the Spring. Which to ride on 5MOH? KTM 200 rekluse kick start trials tires OR KTM 450 rekluse e-start trials tires. the 450 weights about 40# more...
@brettmjones I think it has to do with how one renders the file if your editing the video. I render as a MP4 file. I up convert when I render to 1080p. Huge file and it takes hours to upload a single video. 15 min video can take 6-12 hours to upload and for TH-cam to process with a DSL connection. Check your render settings in your editing software. Also check you settings on TH-cam, you may have your player set to default to 360p. You can change your settings on TH-cam to play 720p.
Ridden it five times over the years. It is a lot easier with a modern four stroke and a Recluse clutch. The biggest challenge is route finding while keeping your speed up enough to hop up the obstacles. None of them are impossible, you just get tired.
Warning to all. if your not willing to abandon you bike and hike home, don't think about riding this trail. It is the most difficult trail I've ever seen. In fact I'm shocked that Utah has not tried to shut it down. My bro and I started riding this trail around 9:00 in the morning had to spend the night on the side of the trail freezing with out any thing other than basic riding gear and a lighter because we ran out of daylight. (Thank god for the lighter, it saved our lives). The trail is littered with all kinds of broken dirt bike parts. This is the trail were you find out how good you really are. Don't be STUPID, take extra water, food and tell someone were your going and when your going to be back. This trail is a killer. My hats is off to anyone who has the balls to try this trail. As to the man who made this video, you are a confirmed bad ass. I will not ride here again with out a satellite phone. I hope to see you crazy dirt junkies out on the trails.........get some
meh its not nearly as hard as some of the stuff in montana, took me and a few riding buddies an hour and 45 mins to complete it and I was on a vintage bike. It all depends on what you usually ride, happy trails!
Xenos Xanthippe I suggest it has more to do with th ed riders riding ability and physical condition. A rider with good technical trail riding skills would be able to ride a WR.
@ragdump im am confident of my riding, but i dont normally do riding like dave did in the video, i normally ride fast trails in the arizona desert or in the dunes, and riding in the desert i go alone some times, but out in the dunes, its better to travel in a pack then to be a "one man army" out there. pushing a bike through the sand is not fun at all and i know what you mean about the play it safe thing, there really isnt such a thing with dirt bikes, hell i broke all 4 metacarpals in me hand
@rider4life51 If you want to ride you do what you have too some people aren't competent enough to ride alone, you must be one,for you it's not a good idea Dave is among the best riders in Northern Calif. Dave me and many of our friends have been riding like this for many years we try to be careful and we're all still here, sure it's not the best idea and freak things can happen but we wouldn't be riding motorcycles if we wanted to play it safe
They paint a line on the sandstone to follow. The paint was very faded when I rode it. Not used to looking down too, I look ahead. Took about a mile to get familiar with looking for the paint.
riding is one of the best workouts you can get aslong as you dont do something stupid and makes yourself go splat!..."stupid hurts".."turn on the gass dummy"
Some of my buddies have done this trail and say that it is not that any of it can't be done but by the time you do all 7.9 miles of the five miles of hell that your just beet down big time.LOL

Ooooh.. wife and I are on the edges of our seats while watching that!! Off to watch the rest...

I've ridden this ride twice. You make it look easier than it is.

damn bro! that wall where you couldnt find the trail for a min. would have been the end of the trail for me. it looked steep as hell, kudos bro!
wow, that looks intimidating in the video, and videos never do the terrain justice. I know where I'm heading next. should be a good challenge for my heavy steel framed yz426.
That's a heck of a ride! Neither of my bikes have the mileage for that haul!
Next time I'm in Utah, will definitely be looking for this trail to try out.
Looks tough! I got tired just watching this video
I headed back to camp to join another group of riders. We rode an additional 100 miles.
Yeah that's probably exactly what it is. Didn't think about that. Still looks very good and I didn't notice it on any of your videos till just now! I need to look into this new Sony cam. Rekluse kit or camera? Hmm.
Respect dude you make it look so easy.
This would be a great race. I love this type of trail.
Thanks for watching/riding along.
Go Ride!
Scared, nope. Having fun!

They painted some lines on the rock. Hard to follow when your used to looking ahead and not down.
good riding! come out and ride some single track over here in northern california!
im going on vacation to durango colorado in august, definitely gonna make the 2 hour drive to moab utah to try this
White line painted on the rocks. When one is used to looking ahead, it is a challenge to look down enough to see the painted dash on the rock.
My hat off to you for doing this.
I know you have many hours of training.
I have a Fox Racing hydration pack. I used the mid sized one, 60 oz.?

KTM 450 rekluse e-start trials tires. the 450 weights about 40# more...
I think both bikes would work well?
Ride or Go Home. I chose to Go Ride!. Others did know where I was and to come looking if I did not return by a specific time.
The part that blows my mind is how you figured out where to go.
Awesome trail ride, no water breaks? You are a machine! LOL
Do you carry a Spot GPS locator or something for emergencies?
Awesome. Looks like a great trail to me. Where's the "hell?"

Rob Eaton You mean #puppydogcanyon? There are 3 escape routes to get out on. No one needs to stay the night. They're well-marked too.
meh its not nearly as hard as some of the stuff in montana, took me and a few riding buddies an hour and 45 mins to complete it and I was on a vintage bike. It all depends on what you usually ride, happy trails!
what tacometer you have on your bike, ive seen this big screens, does it have gps? its connected to the bike?
tks. nice video!
ICO ProComp Enduro computer, no GPS.
I use a Garmin 60csx to record tracks with. Seldom use it to navigate.
Amazing,
Do you think the Yammaha WR250R could do the same ?
Xenos Xanthippe I suggest it has more to do with th ed riders riding ability and physical condition. A rider with good technical trail riding skills would be able to ride a WR.
try it on a 1975 DT 175 lol.. after only 1/6th of a mile your bones would be non-existent!
great vid i have no idea how you stayed on the trail lol
OffRoadRider15f That is a serious day My hat is off to you bro.
Love to try a trail or two with ya but I'm old and slow but still?
atlest here in north carolina you know where your goin and if you crash you can survive in the woods
Do you notice the weird shifting in the video? Almost like the camera lens moves or something. Kinda looks like its under water. Is this normal?
Makes me glad I live in Northern Calif.
looks like alot hotter place than that, I was thinking mid 90's.
how did you get it to start @720P? i uploaded some gopro vids, but they all start at 360p?
nice perfect for 5moh
What kind of hydration system did you use on this ride?
Out of curiosity, what did you adjust your tire pressure to for red rock country (if at all). What would you recommend?
***** I ran 13 psi in the rear. 12 psi in the front. Bridgestone 403/404.
Hey I'm curious how low you have your bike geared? Did you put any flywheel weights on it? Anything else special?
@OffRoadRider15f what kind of dirt bike is that?
Bravo !!
@ragdump im am confident of my riding, but i dont normally do riding like dave did in the video, i normally ride fast trails in the arizona desert or in the dunes, and riding in the desert i go alone some times, but out in the dunes, its better to travel in a pack then to be a "one man army" out there. pushing a bike through the sand is not fun at all and i know what you mean about the play it safe thing, there really isnt such a thing with dirt bikes, hell i broke all 4 metacarpals in me hand
you are good on your bike
I did not use the TH-cam shaky video fix.
@swampswimmingshrek Nice I guessed about right.
Thanks
im going this yearwith a trials bike
What's the song at the beginning?
I don't recall? Using different editing software now. I just use royalty free music in the editing software bundle.
do those bikes not foul plugs to easy if i drove that slow [which i like doing] i would foul a plug in 10 minutes on my rm 125
Youre one sketchy badass. Is that a 300?
did you bring your compas?
@swampswimmingshrek 13/51 300XCw
Dont know if its the hardes...But must be the coolest :)
@coolstertrailrider 08 KTM 300 xcw.
joli terrain !
@rider4life51 If you want to ride you do what you have too some people aren't competent enough to ride alone, you must be one,for you it's not a good idea Dave is among the best riders in Northern Calif. I am surprised that he was not breathing harder
Looks like you could get lost real easy?
They paint a line on the sandstone to follow. The paint was very faded when I rode it. Not used to looking down too, I look ahead. Took about a mile to get familiar with looking for the paint.
How the hell do you know where to go? lol
Nice!

The only reasons, why this is hell is because you cant find were your going holy crap.
i mix mine 40 to 1 but i have to go a good clip to not foul one
How can you tell where the trail is even going... all looks the same lol.
@rider4life51 in my hand last month on the last day of spring break
2008 KTM 300 xcw
Some of my buddies have done this trail and say that it is not that any of it can't be done but by the time you do all 7.9 miles of the five miles of hell that your just beet down big time.LOL
what was the bikes cc
+Wyatt Yates 2008 KTM 300 xcw
How did you trace the trail soo well on google earth?
Opened my GPS track log in Google Earth. Had to convert file to a kml file, I think?
Man,that wasn't no trail.
this is actually caused by letting youtube "fix" your shaky video.
i'd say this is the toughest to navigate, but not to ride.
yyyyyyaaaaaaaaaa bent rims
i would die so fast. lol
楽しそうヾ(*゚ο゚)ノオォォォォーーー!!
right bike but why alone? beautiful ride but if you get into trouble you are F%$#@k 1st rule don't ride alone!
good riding but riding alone is soo stupid
Nice!
