This was the mystery project I teased in my last video. It is not a comic video, and is very different then what I typically do here on my TH-cam channel. But I love movies, I used to work at a Blockbuster Video in high school, and I've had this vision for these movie ranking videos for my TH-cam channel I wanted to try and experiment with for a while now, but never got around to making because I am so busy covering comics. James Bond was the first movie ranking video project I wanted to try to do, and it was a lot of fun to work on, but it was also very time consuming as there are so many James Bond movies. This video took a long time to make, so I hope you all find this video entertaining, insightful and at times funny and educational on the history of James Bond. I cover the movies in chronological order and rank them as I go along, so we can see how the Bond movies developed and changed over time. I break down the plots, the Bond Actors, the Bond Villains, the Bond Girls as well as showcase interesting scenes from the various movies. In the end, I think I put together a pretty good list from Worst to Best, although I don't expect everyone to agree with all my placements. Hope this video does well, as I'd like to do more movie ranking content in the future in addition to my comic videos. I'd like to rank movies by great directors (Spielberg, Scorsese, etc), random actors (Schwarzenegger, Stallone, DiCaprio, Van Damme, etc) as well as other movie franchises (DC Movies, Die Hard, Home Alone, etc).
I’m a big gamer too, I’d be down for it. But I definitely don’t have the time at the moment to do gaming videos also. I mostly play single player story based games, although I was super into Hearthstone there for a couple years.
My top ten: 1. The Spy Who Loved Me 2. OHMSS 3. From Russia With Love 4. Goldfinger 5. The Living Daylights 6. Licence To Kill 7. Dr. No 8. Casino Royale 9. You Only Live Twice 10. Thunderball
1. from russia with love 2. on her majesty's secret service 3. goldeneye 4. casino royale 5. the living daylights 6. thunderball 7. the world is not enough 8. licence to kill 9. for your eyes only 10. dr. no 11. the spy who loved me
12. goldfinger 13. skyfall 14 tomorrow never dies 15. you only live twice 16. no time to die
17. octopussy 18. live and let die 19. moonraker 20. a view to a kill 21. spectre 22. the man with the golden gun 23. die another day 24. quantum of solace 25. diamonds are forever the bottom 5 are the only ones i hate. all 3 fake bond films however (Casino Royale (1954), Casino Royale (1967), and Never Say Never Again) are the even worse than that though. I have not yet seen No Time To Die. 1. Timothy Dalton 2. Pierce Brosnan 3. Sean Connery 4. Daniel Craig 5. George Lazenby 6. Roger Moore the top 4 are really close, but i still like the bottom 2 too.
@@MaxNeugebauer. it's one of the best best if not the best. The hand to hand fights poorly edited, but there aren't that many of them in it and they last around 30 seconds. That's not all the action scenes though. The ski chase, bobsled chase, and car chase are suburb. All the action in quantum of solace I terribly edited and they last way longer. Boring story? This is the most interesting version of Blofeld we have seen on the screen. He's a menace. Tracy is the best bond girl. It's one of the serous ones and not campy like the spy who loved me or spectre. That doesn't mean it's boring.
I'm not much of a Lazenby fan but OHMSS is great imo, i'd probs have it 3rd or 4th. I mean come on, Telly Savalas as Blofeld, with a base full of hot women in the Swiss Alps. It also has one of best and most important Bond girls, is just generally beautiful to look at with the aformentioned Alps setting (at Christmas time too) plus THAT ending. Its absolutely a top tier Bond movie for me.
Naturally, I disagree with many of your rankings. That’s the nature of the beast. OHMSS, The Living Daylights and Skyfall are our biggest variances. But I applaud your reasoning and I can understand your views even if I don’t necessarily agree with them. I happen to think that your take will probably be quite a popular one among the wider movie watching population. Dare I say that the Bond community, who tend to watch the films again and again and AGAIN will strongly oppose your views here. Those films that grow in repeat viewings (OHMSS, For Your Eyes Only and the Dalton duo to name a few) seem to be very lowly ranked here - perhaps understandably if you’re coming at the series relatively new in the 2020’s! I also applaud your idea of tackling each film in chronological order whilst keeping a running ranking list. It works really well. Top effort Sir! 👏
Thanks! I naively thought I came up with a ranking most would agree with, but I quickly learned after posting my ranker, Bond is so subjective and everyone has wildly different opinions, and everyone loves different eras of Bond. Glad this video is still getting views, I really want to try and do more movie ranker stuff.
Great job. I can not compliment enough for your hardwork & dedication in all your videos. Although I may switch around some Bond movies a bit, but for the most parts I agree with your list. Again, really superb job on this video my friend. You are one of my top 5 favourite youtube chanels & you deseve more recognition. Thank you.
Interesting to see someone who doesn’t have a long history with Bond rank the movies. I definitely don’t agree with everything but the arguments mostly make sense. The pattern I notice with people of a certain age is that Goldeneye always ranks high and I think that shows the influence of the video game. I never played it and for me the movie is middling. The same people always like Onatop, and it’s funny when people go on about Bond’s dated attitude to women and then they rate the most fan service male gaze Bond girl top of the list. And finally - I never understand why people complain about certain Bond films being boring and then rate Casino Royale highly. They play poker for 45 minutes. That is my definition of dull. All that said - and believe me you are not alone in your opinions - I thought the whole video was well put together. I liked how you acknowledged the earlier films are dated but recognized they are a product of their time and didn’t bang on about it. Great work.
Fair ranking. Two observations: 1) I think you are wrong in some things about Thunderball. Everybody, even those that dont' like it much admit that it is Connery's best acted Bond film! In Dr No, Connery is still experimenting with the role and he is great but yet a bit stiff. In From Russia with Love he explores more the "dark" side of the character. In Goldfinger he adds more charm and "witticism" and completes the formula. But in Thunderball he IS James Bond and the formula is perfected. Connery's performance on this is truly unique. He shows the greatest confidence ever. His style, his movements, the way he speaks, his one-liners, his demeanor and even the way he looks, everything that was built in the previous 3 films, reach perfection. He is "dark" and gritty and at the same time charming and stylish. He looks tough and ruthless which at the same time combines with incredible humor and unsurpassed style. And he obviously enjoys playing the character more than ever, either before or after. Also, Fiona Volpe forgettable? My God. Everybody is saying that she is an amazing femme fatale. Maybe the best of the franchise! Domino does not do much indeed but she is one of the hottest Bondgirls. Largo is a pretty good vilain. He doesn't just wear an eyepatch. He can fight, he seems really dangerous and he leads his men into battle! But for the first time the plot focuses on Bond himself and not the vilain. The action scenes are great. The gadjets are believable (the jet-pack was real in the beginning). And the underwater scenes and especially the underwater battle was a revolutionary achievement for the time and a unique sample of cinematography for 1965! It is also the ultimate "escapism" movie. Beautiful exotic places, wonderful scenery and landscapes, incomparable lifestyle, amazing women. it is even considered alongside with Goldfinger a "fashion icon" movie! So initially in Goldfinger but mainly in Thunderball, Connery reaches the fine line of perfection, as he becomes at the same time tough and refined, stylish and ruthless, a real killer with a sense of humor, who lives on the edge and therefore enjoys every minute of his life as if it were his last. Also Thunderball is also historically extremely significant for the franchise that we love: It broke the smashing box office records. It is to this date the highest grossing Bond movie of all time (inflation counted). If Goldifinger created the "Bondmania", then Thunderball made it into a high fever. The flms remarkable achievements transformed James Bond from a popular fictional hero, into a phenomenon in cinema history. 2) For me Sean Connery was the best Bond because: He was the only one who could be dark and gritty and at the same time refined and charming. He looked just as dangerous, tough and ruthless as Craig or Dalton, without having to look depressed and with a lot more style and charisma. He could have had humor and one-liners, without this making him stingy or turning the film into a comedy, as was often the case with Moore. He looked cooler and with much more natural talent than Lazenby or Brosnan. He filled the screen with charisma and masculinity that no one else could reach. His appearance, his style, his movements, the way he even said each phrase made him unattainable. Sean Connery made James Bond: "the man that every other man would want to be and every woman would just want ...". While Moore often turned the character into a "caricature" of Connery's Bond, Dalton a "dry" and humorless character, Brosnan a "videogame" action hero, and Craig a depressing and often "bipolar" character as an alternative. Jason Bourne. All his successors had some of Bond's assets. He had it ALL.
Sean Connery: 7: Never Say Never Again 6: Diamonds Are Forever 5: You Only Live Twice 4: Thunderball 3: Dr. No 2: Goldfinger 1: From Russia With Love George Lazenby: 1: On Her Majesty’s Secret Service Roger Moore: 7: A View to a Kill 6: The Man With the Golden Gun 5: Moonraker 4: For Your Eyes Only 3: Live and Let Die 2: Octopussy 1: The Spy Who Loved Me Timothy Dalton: 2: The Living Daylights 1: Licence to Kill Pierce Brosnan: 4: Die Another Day 3: The World Is Not Enough 2: Tomorrow Never Dies 1: GoldenEye Daniel Craig: 5: Quantum of Solace 4: Spectre 3: No Time To Die 2: Skyfall 1: Casino Royale Top 10: 10: GoldenEye 9: Octopussy 8: The Spy Who Loved Me 7: Thunderball 6: Dr. No 5: Skyfall 4: Goldfinger 3: On Her Majesty’s Secret Service 2: From Russia With Love 1: Casino Royale
Thank you so much for this video. I love it. I appreciate all of the hard work you put into it. I started watching bond films chronologically a few years ago but I didn't know where I stopped so this made it a little easier to pinpoint. Also I really like that by watching this video you can get a good feel of how the themes have changed over the years, what direction they decided to take with each movie and what they did to each movie to keep it modern for the year it came out.
Glad you liked it. Yeah I made the decision to go through chronologically for that reason, I didn’t want it to just be a ranking video, but also like a history of Bond kind of thing too.
No.1 for me is ,The spy who loved me' forever 👍👍👍 The best and entertaining ranking I ever saw. But ,For your eyes only' is one of the best 🤷 Thank you ❤
This is an excellent ranking. I agree with so much of it and the arguments and information provided is accurate and does a good job explaining your picks. Deserves more views. One of the most controversial picks is placing Skyfall so low compared to others and I agree with that completely. On the other hand I was disappointed how low For Your Eyes Only is on the list, really love that one. Super enjoyable watch, thanks! 😎👍
This should have been titled: Danny rank all Bond Girls and then kinda rank Bond. When Danny was talking about Bond in Japan getting with 2 Japanese girls and how excited Danny was for it... God I was rolling and dying
@@dannymalt I train about 120 men in the heart of Siberia and we never miss one of your vids. Keep up the good work. Oh yea. 2 Asian women is every white guys dream. Keep them coming comrade.
I just don’t like people giving it the #1 spot. But it is #14 on my list overall, which is actually still a pretty decent rank. Definitely many Bond movies worse then it.
I like your list a lot. But I think you should reconsider For Your Eyes Only. It followed up Bond in space and brought him back to earth in a simple yet confident way. I love the soundtrack and the editing. There’s some great action scenes, decent plot, It’s Moore at his peak, the Bond girls are great, the Bond villain is great and the locations are stunning. Plus we get to see the real Blofeld get killed. It’s kinda a movie about revenge and by the end Bond realizes it’s “not the answer.” He’s at peace finally, even though he never killed Erma Bunt (the woman who shot and killed Bonds wife.) at least that’s my take on it. Overall I think it’s an entertaining and overall solid Bond film.
Danny, you didnt let me down. I was kinda wondering what you was referring last week to when you said ''Something'' different. Going to fully enjoy this new type of video. Salute to you Danny.
You know, OHMSS is the one Bond film that is closest to the book by Ian Fleming. You remind me of that type of guy who thinks comic film movies are the true source material, while disregarding the actual comics. In fact, your commentary on OHMSS’s Bond shows you don’t know Bond at all.
You right... i think that "Skyfall" is a very overrated movie. Boring at times, not impressive action scenes and a annoyng cartoonish villain. The World is not Enough is my favourite
As a big part of the Bond fandom I just want to say it's refreshing to see a real video not based off of pier pressure. Thanks you deserve so much respect and more views. And yes, Pierce is the best Bond
True, Dalton's movie saved the franchise from being more laughable for wrong reasons. It bought the tone back what then franchise needed. Plus bond is supposed to be a humorless guy. He is supposed to be serious
Danny I love your videos, and as a huge Bond fan I’m enjoying this so far (I’m pausing at Diamonds are Forever)… however, can you please check your pronunciations! Ernst “Stav-ro” Blofeld, George “Laze-en-by”, Shirley “Bass-ey”… sorry to be fussy about this but it makes a big difference especially in such a long video.
@@dannymalt I appreciate that. Again, I'm sorry, your videos are so well researched and presented that it's a shame to let something like that let it down!
Great list, and it's nice to see Onatopp get some love; interesting take that she 'almost' orgasms from her confrontations, I would take what's going on as a sign she's absolutely getting off, especially in the spa fight.
1. From Russia with Love 2. Goldfinger 3. On Her Majesty 4. Spy Who Loved Me 5. Casino Royale. I believe for most of us, Connery is in a different stratosphere than the others. Not linearly, but exponentially greater than the others. It would be like designating a Ferrari as second tier to a Lexus. I simply can't pick a movie in my top Bond which doesn't include him. Second, part of the joy of Bond is the historical appreciation of the way things were in the sixties. The suits, the thin ties, the cars, the dress, the hotels and the music. So for me, even On Her Majesty's Secret Service is classier and more deserving to be in my top 5. Brosnan is my second favorite Bond, but I didn't like any of his movies. I find Craig and Dalton so lacking in humor, so brooding, depressed, and to my eye less attractive, that I only make room for one Craig in the top six because the movie was strong. I don’t need Bond to be dark and handsome, but he would have to be extremely handsome if he’s a blonde (ie. Richard Madden) Like Saying Craig or Dalton films is better than Connery is like saying a modern version of “It’s a Wonderful Life” is better than the original. Blasphemy. It’s not just the story and actor, it’s everything nostalgic and historical.
1. The world is not enough A+ 2. GoldenEye A+ 3. Casino Royale A+ 4. Licence to Kill A 5. Tomorrow never dies A 6. Casino Royale A 7. Living Daylights A- 8. Dr. No B+ 9. Goldfinger B+ 10. Skyfall B Honorable mentions: Diamonds are forever, From Russia with Love, On his Majestys Secret Service
Not a bad rankings but I have a few beefs 1 Scaramanga just decent you got to be crazy he's played by Sir Christopher Lee in my opinion the GOAT of Villains Actors not only Scaramanga but he's Saurman in Lord of the Rings Dooku in Star Wars he's Count De Rochefort In Three Musketeers he's played Frankenstein Monster and the Mummy and arguably the Greatest Count Dracula ever
I appreciate all Bond fans and their ratings and viewpoints, keep up the good work. Here are my ratings if you are interested. A Films - Great films that I will watch anytime 1. The Spy who loved me - Moore at his finest, a great spy film with perfect pacing, just the right amount of comedy, the lotus esprit and of course Jaws. 2. From Russia With Love - Connery’s best film, probably the closest to an actual Fleming novel, beautifully paced, a true spy thriller film. 3. Skyfall - Sam Mendes purposefully tried to pull the franchise back from the disaster of QoS by bringing in a more Connery/Fleming feel but with modern twists. It was nice to see Craig pull off a more faithful Fleming Bond. 4. No Time to Die - Great villain with an actual lair, modern plot, real stunt work without tons of CGI that have plagued several of Craig’s film. A fitting and obvious end to the Craig era. 5. License to Kill - Dark, edgy, vindictive, and a great Bond girl. This is the revenge film that the franchise needed 6. Goldeneye - Iconic Bond with some of the greatest scenes, damn jump, tank chase, etc. Brosnan was awesome in it. 7. A View to a Kill - Bond is old, who cares. The film itself is a gem and has some real nail-biting moments (elevator scene, finale). If you forgive Moore’s age this becomes a quintessential Bond film that is loads of fun to watch. It is also the film with Bond doing the most spying/espionage work in the whole franchise and has the most prescient plot. Throw in Zorin and Mayday both top 5 in the franchise. 8. Live and Let Die - Proved Moore could be Bond with a great change of pace, it was funny, fast moving, had a great song, Solitaire was a great Bond girl and the awesome stunts (alligator run, boat chase), you never get bored watched this. B Films - Very good films that I have no problem re-watching. 9. Thunderball - Connery’s best acted film, the plot was awesome, stunning locales and the underwater fight scenes were incredible. It was also a course correction to the campier GF. 10. The World is Not Enough - A corrective to TND that brought back a more Connery-esque style film with spy craft, double crosses, etc. This is Brosnan's thinking man's film. 11. Dr. No - If released today it would be considered an art house flick. Shows how real spy/espionage was done and is just a delight to watch how Connery owned the character in the first film. 12. Die Another Day - The first half of this movie is the best Bond movie ever made, it then has the purposeful tonal shift into sci-fi territory that doesn’t work for everyone, but I really like they were comparing and contrasting the pre/post 9/11 world. They made a bet that technology was going to rule the day, something that was understandable 2-3 weeks after 9/11, that guess turned out wrong, but this is still a kick ass movie with Bond turned up to a 11. 13. Octopussy - Campy but still enjoyable, the actual plot is one of the best of Bonds. 14. For Your Eyes Only - I enjoy trying to figure out who is the real villain was but it’s slower pacing brings this down into the B grade films but still a very solid entry. 15. Diamonds are Forever - Nails 1970 Las Vegas where the mob still controlled huge parts of it and how over the top Vegas actually was. The film also has the best dialogue of any Bond film making it fun to watch and Connery is back on his game, well rested and a twinkle in his eye again. The iconic elevator fight scene is one of the best in the series and Bond riding up on the outside of the elevator is another classic. 16. On Her Majesty’s Secret Service - Great story although it drags in the middle, awesome cinematography but some dubious editing, overdubbing and Lazenby’s acting drags it down to this position. 17. The Living Daylights - This has some great scenes but for some reason they don’t come together very well which is a shame. In this instance the parts were greater than the whole. 18. Goldfinger - The barn scene is cringe worthy, it’s a poorly paced film and Bond actually doesn’t do very much in it. Yes, there are some iconic lines, and the villain and henchman are top notch but what I mentioned above and all of the obvious edits from actors working in the US to those on the English Soundstage drops it down to this position. C Films - Average films that I don't go out of my way to re-watch 19. Casino Royale - OMG how I wanted to love this film, it has some great scenes and then some very poor scenes that drops it into the C category. Bond invading an embassy would have gotten him fired PERIOD. Who unveils a new airliner at 2 AM? And why claim its Miami when it’s clearly a European airport with European airliners and cars in the scene? Vesper was way too young (23) to hold such a high position. The Arron Sorkin like dialogue between Bond and Vesper was a letdown. Them falling in love after a few days of lovey dovey on the boat makes Bond look like a horned up teenager rather than Bond. The sinking building in Venice was groan worthy fake, the third act dragged on, the poker game was ludicrously fake, I could go on and on but people seem to ignore all of the faults in this film so they can agree with everyone else that this is one of the best, I just don't see it. 20. Tomorrow Never Dies - A completely generic 1990 action film. It was well shot, acting was good, but you could have Jean Claude Van Damme play Agent Brad Jones of the CIA and nothing would have changed. Great action film, poor and forgettable Bond film. On the plus side, I loved Dr. Kaufman scene and Q and Bond at the rental car counter scene. Negatives would be the overly long and fake looking action scenes with Bond in them, Elliot Carver was a the corniest most unbelievable villain that gives the film the feeling that is a parody and Bond entering the cardboard stealth boat set with a machine gun in each hand screams 1990 action flick like nothing else. 21. You only live twice - I remember watching this as a kid on TV and thinking that this is the corniest Bond film ever and Connery seemed bored and irritated in it. They turned Bond Japanese, made a slow boring commercial about come visit Japan, the head of the Japanese secret service has a slide to get into his office, little Nellie was silly and a volcano lair, holy crap you have an Austin Powers movie. 22. The Man with the Golden Gun - The world’s best assassin uses a midget to lure other assassins to his circus fun house to kill them. Oh and something about a laser. Christopher Lee, Moore and Herb V. were great in it but the script/plot was not the best. D Films - very rarely watch on their own. 23. Moonraker - A schizophrenic film, it has some of the darkest scenes of any Moore film (a lady is hunted down and killed by dogs) with some of the corniest/cheesiest parts. It's part Noir Thriller mixed with a sophomoric comedy making it the Norbit of Bond Films. 24. Spectre - Slow to the point of being boring, no Bond film should ever be boring. Not a fan off all the fake CGI stunt scenes and of course it literally copied a parody film. Bond is now making a parody of a parody; and retconning his previous 3 films, not in a good way makes this film a joke. F Films - Only watch when I am doing a whole series re-watch and even then, it takes 2-3 days to get through. 25. Quantum of Solace - From the seizure inducing Frenetic editing to cover up the hundreds of goofs, to a boring villain with the lowest stake plot, to all of the fake CGI stunts and a hotel fight scene that was copied from Bourne (they had 2-unit directors from Bourne directing the action sequences.) This film is not a Bond film at all, it fails in quality, action, plot, villain and it copies almost everything from other movies who have done it better and before. Bond should be leading the pack not following from behind.
Wait wait wait! You said Diana Rigg is not the most attractive Bond girl by any means?! Holy crap! She’s not only the best actress AND character as a Bond girl, she’s, in my eyes, the most attractive, just ahead of Eva Green. And Majesty’s is easily a top five Bond movie! And I’m no hipster.
I agree with a lot of this list. I enjoy the Dalton movies more than you though. I actually prefer license to kill. He was the gritty James Bond Craig is trying to be. I am not a Daniel Craig fan.
Try them out, their fun. The very first one, Dr. No, feels kind of dated, so maybe try Goldfinger first. Or if you want a more modern Bond try GoldenEye or Casino Royale.
1. Casino Royale (2006) 2. GoldenEye 3. The Spy Who Loved Me 4. Goldfinger 5. Dr. No 6. From Russia with Love 7. Thunderball 8. Live and Let Die 9. Skyfall 10. The Living Daylights 11. Licence to Kill 12. No Time to Die 13. Diamonds are Forever 14. Tomorrow Never Die 15. Quantum of Solace 16. The World is Not Enough 17. A View to a Kill 18. For Your Eyes Only 19. You Only Live Twice 20. Moonraker 21. Spectre 22. On Her Majesty's Secret Service 23. Die Another Day Only bad ones 24. Octopussy 25. The Man With the Golden Gun
You put the film that 'does drag a bit...getting Bond fatigue near the end of it and bored in a little bit of places', in third place! Strange this so called 'DEFINITIVE' ranking is
I get sick and tired of hearing Moore was too old in his last Bond film. Goodness me, if you compare his looks in A View to a Kill to any of his Bond films back to The Spy who loved me, he looks essentially the same. You're all imagining things.
@rossmccay And Tom Cruise is 6 years older than Moore was in AVTAK and he's doing another Mission Impossible film. And Harrison Ford was in his 70s when he did another Indiana Jones. Everyone gets older. If Moore had only done AVTAK as his only film, and did it when he did it, no-one would be commenting on his age because there'd be nothing to compare it to. It's a bit like Elvis: damn good looking till the day he died, but even better looking earlier, so everyone picks on his appearance at the end.
@rossmccay Moore's age in AVTAK is merely food for the armchair intellectual critic. If your mod weren't talking about it, no-one would notice it. It's a bit like so-called "climate change": the only reason some people believe in it is that they've been told it's true.
@@t.l3846 I’ve read like 20 different Bond rankings by other people out of curiosity for this video, and I find it crazy how there is almost no consensus. Movies I have at the bottom others have at the top, and vice versa, and all over the place. It’s impossible to make a list everyone agrees with.
@@dannymalt but yeah bond fans definitely are divided in their opinions. Because of nostalgia or the vibe of the film. It was good to hear a fresh opinion on it from someone who isn't immersed into it from childhood. From Britain with love
I hated Skyfalll and Spectre... preferring even Quantum of Solace over them. I think the best time to watch Bond is with your dad when you're a kid... although I wonder if kids today would have the patience for them.
I was brought up watching the Roger Moore movies as my dad loved them. If I was going to stick a Bond film on it would likely be one of the Moore one’s. I’ve seen the Moore, Connery, and Dalton films loads of times. I’ve never really been into the Brosnan or Craig films although Casino Royale is good.
I feel like it's quite obvious that you prefer the sillier, more "fun" Bond movies. And fair enough, but I feel like that's a bit of a small minded way of looking at Bond, both the series and the character. While the Bond films are indeed supposed to be escapism, that does not necessarily mean they shouldn't be serious in tone. Bond is never a wise cracking superhero in the novels, nor is he in the first couple of Connery films, OHMSS, FYEO, the Dalton or the Craig films. So making the argument that Dalton's Bond was too "serious" has always been a weird one for me. He's a secret agent who occasionally murders people for a living, is a raging alcoholic, a chainsmoker and he certainly does not just bed all of these women, because it's fun to him. Rather he sleeps with them to take his mind off of constantly facing death. He's not a superhero, he's barely even a hero. He's a blunt instrument of her majesty's government that will occasionally save a beautiful woman, but sometimes he just won't. That's Bond to me and it's why Dalton is my favorite out of all of them.
My theory is that everyone’s fav Bond and movie is influenced by their preference for serious vs silly. If you like a serious Bond makes sense Dalton is your fav. I like more of a balance, Roger Moore is too silly sometimes, but I like Connery and Brosnan most because they are more in the middle for me. I only read Casino Royale, so I’m not as attached to the characterization in the books.
I don't agree w/your ranking of Skyfall at all. I think it's arguably the best. I will say that we have the same rankings for Casino Royale and GoldenEye. The one positive I see on this list is that Thunderball is in the top ten. Most people crap on it, I love it and the theme song.
My favorite James Bond's are of course Sean Connery Pierce Bronson and Daniel Craig. I saw Skyfal Spectre in the theater I can't wait to see No Time to Die. I have all Bronson's DVD's and all Craig's DVDs 🥰 oops spelled Pierce's last name wrong...sorry 😳
I don't understand why people are so impressed with The Spy Who Loved Me. The wooden Bond girl is enough to put me off (although it's still better than Moonraker). I have nothing good to say about that one.
??? Anya Amasova is a goddess! The hottest Bond girl EVER, EVER, EVER!!! By the way, Barbara Bach as an actress is not wooden. Her character Anya is a KGB agent, a loyal servant of the Soviet Union who doesn't talk too much. *** However, I respect you opinion! But if not Anya(Barbara Bach), who are your favorites? *** My very-very top is: Domino Derval, Aki, Mary Goodnight(terrible MI6 agent, but gorgeous in a bikini), Anya Amasova, Drax's girl Irka Bochenko, all Octopussy's girls..........
Bond movie Casino Royale Bond girl Eva Green, but the hottest is Claudine Auger, OMG and it's back in 1965. It's the perfect face and body Bond villain Golfinger and Le Chiffre
I watched your vid last night just before bed anf really enjoyed it. Obviously we have different opinions on some of the movies (such as Goldeneye and Octopussy) and different opinions on some characters (such as J W Pepper) but everyone has different opinions, and for me personally i tend to prefer most of the older movies best. I've prepared my own rankings to compare with yours for the movies, Bond actors, Bond girls and villains. Hi Danny, interesting set of reviews! Funny how we can sit through the same films and see something completely different! Here is my take, there has been five good actors to play Bond, one bad: 1) Timothy Dalton - Brooding Welshman, a highly underrated actor and criminally underused. Classically trained and it shows on the screen. Closest delivery to Fleming's books. Can you see Brosnan, deliver, the "stuff my orders line" in Living Daylights? 2) Sean Connery - Yes, everyone says "he is the best". But, sentimentality, comes into play, here. He looked bored in You Only Live Twice and Diamonds. But returned well with Never Say Never. He did set the benchmark though in Dr. No. 3) George Lazenby - He moves better than any Bond actor and handles the action scenes so well. Brings a wave of arrogance and assurance not seen in a Bond actor, before or since. His OHMSS Bond is totally, awesome. 4) Daniel Craig - Funny, how a serious actor had to be brought back to save Bond. By the time Craig took over the mantle, Bond was looking somewhat dated and overtaken by xXx and Bourne films, so they had to go back to the formula of Dalton (2.0). 5) Roger Moore - Yes, Roger brought a certain style to Bond, yes it was laced with a humour and was seen as pure escapism, building from his role in the Persuaders. His Bond films are entertaining and have some great moments. He did stabilise the franchise, though, after Connery, Lazenby and Connery again. 6) Pierce Brosnan - What's wrong with Pierce? Pretty much everything. He belongs more on a set on Dynasty, than Bond. Die Another Day? We are talking levels of calamity of the Star Trek reboots and Star Wars the Rise of Skywalker. Where do we start, CGI waves, skiing North Korean agents? GoldenEye, who cannot remember the superman impression, flying off a cliff with a bike, bunch of Soviets who cannot even shot straight and fly a plane in one breath!
Haha. Yes it’s funny how we look at the same stuff, but see it completely differently. People are so split on Bond it seems. I think someone’s Bond rankings depends on what their ideal level of serious vs. silly they are looking for, also if they are skewed by nostalgia if they grew up during a certain Bond era.
@@dannymalt Hi, I grew up as Moore as being “my Bond”, so these are the first Bond films that I saw, those of Connery and Lazenby one saw these retrospectively and the rest thereafter. Onto, GoldenEye, the film does have some great moments, being: (a) the opening Bungee jump - before its subsequent total collapse, (b) Tina Turner’s song, (c) GoldenEye's opening titles, (d) Derek Medding’s special effects and (e) the converted Class 20 diesel locomotive dressed up as some Soviet train. That aside, I can see why GoldenEye was so popular at the time, it went back to the well established formula of Moore (that was perfect of the 70s). Having Dalton, suddenly coming from nowhere thrust on the multiplex screens back in the late 80s, must have been as alien like Lazenby taking over from Connery, back in ’69. What was wrong with Brosnan, well his acting style for one, he tends to overact when he is in a desperate situation, who him remembers being strapped in a helicopter and getting rather animated. He was more suited to being in US tv productions like Remington Steel, where he originally established himself. There is an agreeable argument that Dalton type films came out way, way too early in the franchise history. However, generally films became more and more serious as the 90s into the 00s progressed. The Bale/Nolan Bat films springs to mind. By the time Bourne had established itself as the premier action film, the Bond producers knew they had to move on and return to something that Dalton had already done, by which time a “serious Bond” had become more palatable to the film-going public. That aside, would like to see you review the Star Wars films next!
I have seen about half of all Bond movies, and found this upload very interesting. Personally, I think Brosnan is too much a pretty boy, and Sean Connery is better at playing the role. As for Bond girls, I'd say Pussy Galore is absolutely gorgeous, and prettier than Ursula Andress. She portrays a look of innocence that I like.
I hope you do a gaming channel on TH-cam i love too see what you would play
I’m a big gamer too, I’d be down for it. But I definitely don’t have the time at the moment to do gaming videos also. I mostly play single player story based games, although I was super into Hearthstone there for a couple years.

5. George Lazenby
6. Roger Moore
the top 4 are really close, but i still like the bottom 2 too.
OHMSS is your 2nd favorite? That movie was so mediocre. I think it’s the worst Bond movie ever. Boring story, and god awful edited action sequences.
Licence to Kill was 15 years ahead of its time and one of the best written Bond movies ever.
2 hours! You spoil us Danny! This was a welcome surprise for sure.
My Ranking: All are No. 1 from Dr. No (1962) up to Licence To Kill (1989). After that the series had just turned into "something" equal to its times.
Great job. I can not compliment enough for your hardwork & dedication in all your videos. Although I may switch around some Bond movies a bit, but for the most parts I agree with your list. Again, really superb job on this video my friend. You are one of my top 5 favourite youtube chanels & you deseve more recognition. Thank you.
Licence To Kill is my favourite Bond film
As someone who grew up during the Brosnan era, I appreciate your assessment of him. I really wish he got one more film before Craig took over.
Remember guys art is subjective. 😩
But he's dead wrong on putting Dalton films so low and not having Connery as the top bond.
Thank you for making this video. I’ve never watched a single James Bond movie. After this, I'm going to have to check it out.
Great work.
This was a fun time! Excellent video!!
Fair ranking. Two observations:
1) I think you are wrong in some things about Thunderball.
He had it ALL.
give this man round of a applause because this takes dedication
Lot of work put into this video, loved it

Thank you so much for this video. I love it. I appreciate all of the hard work you put into it. I started watching bond films chronologically a few years ago but I didn't know where I stopped so this made it a little easier to pinpoint. Also I really like that by watching this video you can get a good feel of how the themes have changed over the years, what direction they decided to take with each movie and what they did to each movie to keep it modern for the year it came out.
Glad you liked it. Yeah I made the decision to go through chronologically for that reason, I didn’t want it to just be a ranking video, but also like a history of Bond kind of thing too.
@@dannymalt It has been great watching your channel grow. Happy Halloween!
Man as a License to Kill lover I can't believe you don't like it lol personally I've always liked Dalton as Bond too
No.1 for me is ,The spy who loved me' forever 👍👍👍
The best and entertaining ranking I ever saw.
But ,For your eyes only' is one of the best 🤷
Thank you ❤
This is an amazing project!!! I loved it
This is an excellent ranking. 😎👍
Great list!! Very fun to watch and listen. Thanks for all the work it must have taken. And using the film posters is a nice touch.
more movie rankings pleaaaase!!
loved this video!
This should have been titled: Danny rank all Bond Girls and then kinda rank Bond.
When Danny was talking about Bond in Japan getting with 2 Japanese girls and how excited Danny was for it... God I was rolling and dying
I like to see inclusivity and diversity in the many women Bond is banging, lol

Always good to see a Bond ranking.
Excellent job!For your eyes only is my favorite Bond movie..I hate the Craig Era Bond movies
Pierce Broznan ???? You've got to be kidding !!!
Thanks for going over all these but your hate for OHMSS is unwarranted.
I just don’t like people giving it the #1 spot. But it is #14 on my list overall, which is actually still a pretty decent rank. Definitely many Bond movies worse then it.
I was actually very entertained by this
"Jaws...the man, not the shark" cracked me right up! Xxx
"Who names their daughter Pussy? And the last name... Galore" Honestly, I just enjoy Danny...
Great job. This was a very well-made, well thought-out video. Where do you rank No Time To Die?
16th. Below Octopussy and above Die Another Day. Not the worst Bond movie, but it has issues, and I didn’t like the death ending.
@@dannymalt We have extremely similar views on the Craig Era. After Casino Royale (which is GREAT), the filmmakers sadly lost their way.
Hello Danny, I like this video , waiting for comic explanation/ narration. Love your hard work . Thanks for sharing 👍
Overall I think it’s an entertaining and overall solid Bond film.
great list Danny this video just reignited my excitement for the next bond film
I’m really loving the movie stuff keep it up 👍🏻
Glad you enjoyed it. I want to try and do more of these ranking things in the future. I got all sorts of ideas.
Woo great video here, I love comic content too ao you've got yourself a new sub!
thank you for that amazing video!
Danny, you didnt let me down.
I was kinda wondering what you was referring last week to when you said ''Something'' different.
Going to fully enjoy this new type of video.
Salute to you Danny.
Great job Danny- bring more on!
Pierce Brosnan is the most complete and the best Bond ever....
I dont understand why nowdays he is so underrated.... ?
Glad you align with me on it. Brosnan is tops!
Pierce Brosnan is my favourite love all 4 of his movies even.........die another day.
You know, OHMSS is the one Bond film that is closest to the book by Ian Fleming. You remind me of that type of guy who thinks comic film movies are the true source material, while disregarding the actual comics. In fact, your commentary on OHMSS’s Bond shows you don’t know Bond at all.
Enjoyable video and interesting to hear your take..nice job
Great Job!!!!
You right... i think that "Skyfall" is a very overrated movie. Boring at times, not impressive action scenes and a annoyng cartoonish villain.
The World is not Enough is my favourite
Connery, Moore, and Dalton are the best Bonds.
BRILLLLIANT! Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As a big part of the Bond fandom I just want to say it's refreshing to see a real video not based off of pier pressure. Thanks you deserve so much respect and more views. And yes, Pierce is the best Bond
*Pierce is not the best bond

Couldn't disagree more with your list, mainly with your Dalton film rankings!
Can't correct now, but noted.
@@dannymalt I appreciate that. Again, I'm sorry, your videos are so well researched and presented that it's a shame to let something like that let it down!
Great vid! Looking foward to No Time To Die
1. The world is not enough A+
2. GoldenEye A+
3. Casino Royale A+
4. Licence to Kill A
5. Tomorrow never dies A

Nick Nack ! Tabasco ! 😂😅
Nice work 👍🏻 Tks ❤ from 🇨🇭 1. The Spy ..... 🏅
Thanks Danny!!!
I appreciate all Bond fans and their ratings and viewpoints, keep up the good work. Here are my ratings if you are interested.
A Films - Great films that I will watch anytime
This is the revenge film that the franchise needed
C Films - Average films that I don't go out of my way to re-watch
Are you serious? You put Diamonds Are Forever over Licence To Kill?
They are both pretty bad and pretty close for me. Just a handful of things I enjoyed about Diamonds more.
I'm 17 and I'm one of those kids who hasn't seen a single James Bond movie...so I'm gonna go watch every bond movie just to watch this video
Try them out, their fun. The very first one, Dr. No, feels kind of dated, so maybe try Goldfinger first. Or if you want a more modern Bond try GoldenEye or Casino Royale.

Nice concept and fun video but if would be more fun to do comic book movies like every Batman film or every super man film but anyway great video
One thing I want to try to do is a DC Live Action Film Ranker going all the way back to the 60s Batman.
Your entrance music is it, an original piece? Can I get a full length version?
Here is full version. th-cam.com/video/T6Ghx2wLAxQ/w-d-xo.html
Nice list..i wouldn't have added Never say never again since it was a non-eon and basically just a thunderball remake
You put the film that 'does drag a bit...getting Bond fatigue near the end of it and bored in a little bit of places', in third place! Strange this so called 'DEFINITIVE' ranking is
Thank you danny!
Pierce Brosnan was my first bond (and he only gets better with age)
All bond movies are number one in my book
They are so hard to rank
I do not leave comments often. Great job. For reals.
A controversial video but a welcome one
I skipped to the ranking of films and Bonds, my heart sank lol
@@t.l3846 I’ve read like 20 different Bond rankings by other people out of curiosity for this video, and I find it crazy how there is almost no consensus. Movies I have at the bottom others have at the top, and vice versa, and all over the place. It’s impossible to make a list everyone agrees with.
@@dannymalt I'm just glad you didn't say Craig or never say never were top
@@dannymalt but yeah bond fans definitely are divided in their opinions. Because of nostalgia or the vibe of the film. It was good to hear a fresh opinion on it from someone who isn't immersed into it from childhood.
From Britain with love
Blofeld also inspired Klaw
Christopher Nolan-Robert Pattinson
Remake/reimagining of moonraker scored by Trent reznor
I hated Skyfalll and Spectre... preferring even Quantum of Solace over them. I think the best time to watch Bond is with your dad when you're a kid... although I wonder if kids today would have the patience for them.
Most of my friends (late 20s/early 30s) have not seen any Bond movies before Brosnan, which I find sad. The Connery ones are so good.
Next comicbook to explain should be Spawn
So, where do you put "no time to die" in your ranking ? ^^
16th. Below Octopussy and above Die Another Day. Not the worst Bond movie, but it has issues, and I didn’t like the death ending.
You have a fantastic taste, love the comic videos and love this video too.
@@dannymalt Yeah, I think that theory is certainly accurate in most cases.
Everytime i hear diamonds are forever i think of the Kanye song
Not to nitpick, but the name is pronounced Stavro, NOT Stravo.
So if given a chance, would you be James bond? Either as a actor or an actual super spy
Skyfall was from the year 2012
Damn, I didn’t edit the title card for it correctly. It’s correct in my main ranking list pages thankfully.
@@dannymalt alright
Great video btw💯🤩
RIP Sean Connery
Bond movie Casino Royale
Bond girl Eva Green, but the hottest is Claudine Auger, OMG and it's back in 1965. It's the perfect face and body
Bond villain Golfinger and Le Chiffre
You disregarded On Her Majesty's Secret Service as a "hipster" choice and yet it's still the best Bond film. Funny how that works.
in ur opinion is it best Bond movie, im not a big fan of it
I agree Brosnan is best boy lol
I feel like you should say parkouring 9 more times
I watched your vid last night just before bed anf really enjoyed it. Obviously we have different opinions on some of the movies (such as Goldeneye and Octopussy) and different opinions on some characters (such as J W Pepper) but everyone has different opinions, and for me personally i tend to prefer most of the older movies best.

Hi Danny, interesting set of reviews! Funny how we can sit through the same films and see something completely different!
Here is my take, there has been five good actors to play Bond, one bad:
1) Timothy Dalton - Brooding Welshman, a highly underrated actor and criminally underused.
