There's some new sounds to be made, but when I tried cranking up the old Western Tunes to obscene volumes, I think that it turned out sort of 70s Punk. Not really sure, I could not hear it very well, you would have to check it out with the neighbors down the street. Happens it was a half-dozen Vox Amplifiers used for the trial, btw. 🙉
Fun house is the Stooge's best, and IMO, in the top 5 LP's ever made.I like James Williamson's style and sound, but it was a significant change of direction back to a more standard song format. It's interesting that he used a Vox. As a long time guitarist, I recognized that it had to be a Vox or a Fender with some kind of mid push or Treble Booster. The latter is actually very much that Vox like element, almost liked a cocked wah. TBH, I'm not a big fan of Vox's larger amps; the AC 10 & 4 are their winners, with the 10 more like a Marshall JTM 45 or Fender Bassman, and the 4 even more Voxy than the bigger brothers.I like using Vox's on bi - amp set ups to naturally push mids and get that distinctive top end-, otherwise I prefer the fat lows on Fenders.Good clean, good filthy dirty and with Fuzz, but NSG for the in between range. With two guitarists, definitely more a good rhythm EQ, with a Fender or Ampeg for the lead -ish sounds.Undoubtably a good Rock amp, just limited in ways others are not.
i agree. although i’ve warmed up to the bowie mix more as time has gone on. i used to think it was complete unlistenable garbage compared to the iggy mix, but now i only think that about the bowie mix of search and destroy. i think bowie’s mix shines particularly on the slower songs
I know it's personal taste and subjective but I really don't understand the acclaim "Raw Power" gets - It pales in comparison to "Fun House." Is this all because a bloke called Kurt listed it in his favourite records, and people have taken it as gospel?
because is a much better album.....the first stooges album is even better than fun house. Fun House isnt very special.....sounds like any average 70´s band....boring!
Vox! Don't forget about the Velvet Undergrounds 1968 release white light/white heat, the Vox Super Beatle is all over that album.
Nothing like this album before or since.
These are awesome! Keep making them VOX! Absolutely great to hear the stories and get into the iconic gear and sound details. This is what we need!
Im all in for the Bowie mix. It’s sleazier

Sounds of course, but the Raw Power LP Jacket, to me, is the very best in Rock/Punk history. And I really appreciate that Vox made this video.

Had no idea it was a Vox!
Vox Amps … Please make a 4x10 combo again. Like a fender Super. 50-watts.
You made one called a “Scorpion” in the 60’s.
Nice. James is sucha cool guy
I'm a Heavy Metal man. But though the Iggy mix is heavier. The Bowie mix let's you hear the electric piano much better.
The iggy mix imo, has the best sound and James guitar sound is so profound and RAW compared to the Bowie mix

Cool, man.
Anyone know why Blackstar is his choice it seems nowadays??
I don't think Ron Asheton would like this ;/
But why?
@@RobiRollt1990 CAUSE IT SHOULD BE MASRSHALL MARSHALL MARSHALL 😂.....ehh i was just joking im sure he wouldnt mind lmao
Ron was the man.If I was responsible for Funhouse, I'd lay back and be happy for the rest of my life.
@@MidnightStorm4990Marshall with a Strat. They're too dark and muddy out of the gate, especially with lower tunings.
