Looks like it's in fantastic condition for being 100 years old!
This elevator is still in great shape for its age.
You did this video combined with another
It has been slightly modded because the inside buttons look newer but it still looks really cool
This is very cool! I've yet to ride anything like this! They are very uncommon.
That wrench at 2:00 looks interesting. It guess one could use it to move the car by hand.
O wow! Da machine room of Bottom-Drive Elevators?! THIS IS SO AWESOME!!!! WHERE IS THIS ELEVATOR?!
Very nice!
Now you don't need to enter without authorization. You can do it right here! And the elevator will never break!
THIS IS AT THE CORNELL HOTEL IN SAN FRANSICO
This elevator is from 1914
Shurely no planned obsolescence on this thing.

Beautiful motor!
I rode this in SF, I can finally say I've ridden a winding drum elevator.
O Town Elevators Do you have the video up yet? Also u have some great videos! I subscribed!
Thanks it really means a lot coming from you. No I have a big backlog so it may not be uploaded for a while but I filmed all sorts of other cool things when I was over there. Btw I'm Joseph C. in case you didn't know. I sent the Schindler circuit board.
What is the motor voltage 240 208 3 phase 480 3 phase
It seems like a lot of these old elevators were built like tanks and made to last.
Nice
I bet this baby can work even after the morden world ends.
Dang that is loud
i could imagine 1 camera in the machine room recording what is going on and the other on the elevator itself. i am also on the elevator. **Cage door closes** ** te-to-to-RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR tee-oooo.** **cage door opens at 6th floor**
HOLY CRAP!! :-D Awwesomee!! :-)
cool!!
looks like it was manually operate earlier. fantastic motor.
Sam Sitar It was :) The upgrade appears to have been done sometime in the 80s or 90s

Is the controller relay logic? If so, this modernization was probably done earlier than that.
+DieselDucy You're right about the date. That's an IDEC FA2J programmable logic controller (PLC) at the top of the control panel. The program is written in relay ladder logic. We used them in water treatment systems until 1995.
Modded with F.S. Payne Co. fixtures.
georgef551
Actually, the hall stations are C.J. Anderson, and the car station is Adams.
+georgef551 Actually, They R Montgomery
Kone Fixtures. i saw the SAME fixtures in the Bellevue Square macy's Lift. So, now U know.
President Buziness
The inside fixtures? If so, the fixtures you saw were likely Adams bought and installed by Montgomery Kone. Adams sells their fixtures to other companies.
upanddownadventures
Maybe U could go to the Bellevue Square macy's elevator. The inside fixtures in this one and the OTIS BotoomDrive Elevator R made by Montgomery
Kone.
Amazing machine room, and what is the difference between winding drum and conventional traction? Also, do winding drum elevators have counterweights like conventional traction elevators, or not?
This is actually a winding drum drive. Strangely this one did have a weight. Also I think u will like an upload I'm posting this week with u
That sure is interesting that drum machines are different, even if they have cables, and I too am looking forward to one of the Austin videos uploaded soon.
*****
Did it have a cable arrangement like shown in the photo? www.elevatorbobs-elevator-pics.com/images2/Guess/drum_machine_3_sheaves2.gif
that bflat motor
Everything is so complicated today was so much simplier back then
It was designed and built to last I know of one Otis winding drum that went up and down for 89 yrs before the motor gave out. However, the motor was not replaced it was rebuilt back in service about 3 weeks later. Working like a sewing machine. @@exoticcar5482
What is the voltage of the motor is it three phase or single phase
I had similar engines in Neuilly (in France) in the years 1966/67. it was 3-wire direct current: + 220v.0v.220v. total 440 volts Provided by the American hospital
it is a low lateral machinery with drum winch: on one side the cabin cables are wound up, on the other the counterweight cables are

@@marylandsirensfirebuff9664 its 666 but ok..
Damn me from 3 years ago and im noticing this 😳
@SAMUEL TAI haha im still active,
the joke was that you press it 3 times because he says 666
@Darren Tai because when he says "6" it will sound like 666 number
Hey Andrew? Mind if I film an elevator for you?
***** Awesome! I also have autism! You're AMAZING autism outreaches inspire me since I have autism! Also, can we chat on Skype? Just regular.
Illegal in NYC
Which brings up a question. I've heard NYC doesn't allow partial elevator upgrades. So a demand has sprung up for making exact replicas of old parts so that the old stuff can continue to run. The new replacement parts are pricey, but they cost far less than a complete upgrade. True?
I didnt think they had electrical power 100 years ago i would of guesed 75 to 80 years old

This type of machine was common, because it was installed in existing buildings (machinery at the bottom) If you look closely at the video, the cab suspension cables unwind at the front, while the counterweight cables wind up at the back. In cases where it was difficult to accommodate a counterweight, the winch and the traction motor had to have enormous power.
The motor seems to be a direct current type. Finally, the controller and the equipment are the result of a relatively recent modernization.
I love winding drums.
The hoist motor is DC with the communicator and brushes open end frame. Most winding drum elevators had a counterweight with the sliding defector sheave or an independent counterweight anchored to the top of the cab. However, I have seen winding drum elevators w/o a counterweight just the hoist rope around the drum. This elevator might have been powered with an MG set with the older controller or DC rectifier. With the new floor relay/floor selector controller it would have a DC drive.
