Well, now, this is fun! I'm not sure if I'm more drawn to the books or the mouth watering food, so having them both would be a lovely treat. I've put Winterset Hollow on my TBR list. Thanks for being so creative and sharing that gift with us!
I am going to check out ‘The Witchwood Knot’. I am very interested in stories about governesses, as I was a nanny myself for many years. On a different note, I love your outfit in the video, and also the music! I want to get a vest like yours!
Let me know what you think when you've read it please🤗📚 Thank you so much for the compliment, that's very sweet of you. The vest is one of my favorite pieces and it's available on Etsy, the store is called "CELTICFUSIONDESIGN" ❤️
LOVE your aesthetic. Your suggestions include some books I already love. Thanks for the new (to me) suggestions. I’m so glad that I stumbled upon your channel. Cheers!
I'm so glad I found your channel! Your videos an interesting vibe. I was thinking cozy, but also mixed with the book recommendations that give it another layer. Also, T. Kingfisher is a favorite of mine too🙂
Oh bother, headaches can really be a nasty thing - blackberry crumble with tea sounds like a wonderful meal when you're feeling unwell though 🥧🫖 I'm keeping my fingers crossed that you recover quickly and will be all back on track soon! 🤗
Thank you! I have a chronic illness that sounds like it came from a fairy tale (lupus, or "wolf" because of a characteristic rash that some think looks like the reddish facial markings on a grey wolf), so I am often ill, but I am luckier than many because my case is not too severe. Love and hugs from Boston!
You're welcome! I hope "Gorse" will captivate you as much as it did me, it's definitely one of my secret favorites from these recommendations 😉📚 Let me know how you liked it! 🤗
I just found your channel a month or so ago and I have never seen any TH-camr who has a similar taste in books as I do. I am glad I found your channel.
Another wonderful video ! I adore dark folklore and folk horror. Damnable tales is so good. I've only read a portion of it. I occasionally grab it to read an occasional story. Winterset Hollow has been on my TBR for ages but I have not gotten to it yet. You referenced gruesome and gory scenes...are the any with animal violence? That is the one thing I can't stomach in a book. Starve Acre is a good one. My favorite book by Andrew Michael Hurely though, is The Loney. The covers on all the books you featured are stunning.
What a great treat on a Sunday! As usual I want to eat, drink, and read everything in this video. This specific niche is particularly up my alley, so I have added all of the books you mentioned to my TBR. I love how I haven’t heard of most of the books that you mention. And the covers of all of these are especially compelling. 😍
Thank you so much, that's so kind of you 🤗 Agreed! I love dark and chilling stories in general, but when they also have folklore elements/inspiration, I'm instantly sold 😁📚 I'm so glad to hear there were some unfamiliar books for you in this video and your TBR was able to grow. I hope you'll enjoy reading them as much as I did - and that they give you the creeps at times 😉🫖
Thank you once again 🤗. Will check out your suggestions… Poor Hares … I wonder how these beautiful animals became a symbol for the occult and evil . That cheesecake looked delicious 🤗 just like all those other njammies ❤
Thank you so much for your lovely comment my dear 🤗 I wish I could serve you a piece of cheesecake with a cup of tea and we could have a nice chat about books 🫖📚 You're right, there are quite a lot of hares on the covers of the recommended book - I honestly hadn't noticed that until now 😅 I once read that their well-known symbolism for fertility can also be used in a darker context, and then stands for the uncontrollable, which is often present in creepy stories. I'll do some more research, now I'm curious 😉🐇
@@amomentofwonder I just had your channel suggested for me--which is perfect. I love Folk Horror, Dark Fairy Tales and Folkloric Fantasy novels. You suggested some great ones I've already read--The Nesting, Starve Acre and The Twisted Ones--all wonderful books. Which means I'll have to pick up the others soon! As for hares--some of their association with occult forces has to do with their folkloric reputations as being either the familiars of witches, or they themselves are shapeshifted witches going abroad with nefarious intent at night. They also are associated with the moon, like rabbits, and their fierce and wild antics during mating season, with fights and chases and seeming dances gave rise to the saying, "mad as a march hare." They go from being fairly timid creatures to so wild that it seems that they must be possessed by wicked spirits when its time to mate.
@barbarafisher4915 Welcome to the channel 🤗 The TH-cam algorithm really worked perfectly when it showed you this episode of Brews & Books of all things. I'm always happy to meet fellow folk horror and dark fairy tale lovers (book recommendations are always very welcome! 😁📚). Thanks for the info and clarification regarding the hares in dark folklore! I didn't know any of that, but love to learn about such things 😊👍
@@barbarafisher4915 I was just about to comment with this. As a bunny mom to three rescues they are sweet as can be but turn up the devilry at night when you’re trying to sleep and they suddenly think it’s fun to rip your carpet up out of nowhere! 😂
@@saramm3765 First things first: yay for bunnys from the rescue! We've only ever had animals from animal welfare or from the animal shelter and have never regretted it. Nothing better than giving them a loving home ❤️ Also, your comment made me laugh - imagining your bunnies ripping out the carpet in the middle of the night makes the whole symbolism thing much more understandable 😂🐇
I've added The Witchwood Knot to my TBR! Also, why have I never thought to make chocolate cinnamon buns?? I've only ever made regular ones. Looks so good!
I really enjoyed Before the Devil Knows You’re Here. I’ve had The Witchwood Knot sitting on my shelf for too long. This is my sign it should be my next read.
The Nesting seems like a good story (and is it weird that I really enjoy seeing certain book covers and that one is really pretty to me)? And now I am hungry again too...Thanks. hehe
No, that's absolutely not weird, I really like the cover too 😁 And I personally love books with beautiful covers (the story has to be convincing too, of course, but I can't say no to a stunning cover) 😉📚 Thank you for your comment my dear 🤗
Love watching your videos, such a treat! 😊 Oooh another Olivia Atwater book! Love her books ❤❤ the others are probably to scary for me 😅 I would love to see a video of your favorite books 2024 ❤ I posted mine yesterday! Ive ordered Wolf for a spell for my birthday, among other books 🥰
Thank you dear Matilda, I always appreciate your comments - it's always fun to exchange recommendations and opinions on books with you 🤗📚 I've already seen your video with 2024 favorites (but unfortunately I haven't had time to comment yet) and have immediately noted a few books on my to-read list. "The Grace of Wild things" and "Half a Soul" were definitely favorites of mine too 😊👍 And if you loved her other books, you will definitely like "Witchwood Knot" by Olivia Atwater as well. Oh, there's nothing better than birthday books 😁 I hope you'll enjoy "A Wolf for a spell", please let me know what you think when you finished it! 📚🐺
@amomentofwonder I love talking books with you 🥰🥰 I'm really interested in hearing which books I've inspired you to put on your list! I always appreciate your comments on my videos, it makes me so happy, especially as you are usually the only one 😆 birthday books to yourself is always good. I've also wished for books from my sister and Mum! The third Emily Wilde book is coming, and they always come around my birthday so that what I'll get from my sister 🥰
Uh, Gorse is on my wishlist now. Thank you very much h for this video. Love the subject. Have you read Hannah Kent - the good people? Think you will like it. Much love❤
Oh, please let me know how you liked it when you've read it! "Gorse" was certainly one of my favorites of the nine books shown. And I also love the cover ❤️📚 Thank you so much for the book recommendation! I didn't know the book before, but the blurb sounds very good and right up my alley! I saved it on my to-read list 🤗 Sending you a hug!
I haven't read "Slewfoot" yet, but have it on my to-read list since I read (and very much enjoyed) "Krampus" by the same author. I think this is my sign to finally buy it - thank you 😉📚
@ Oh wow yeah in that case you definitely should read it! I think you'll really like it. It has some cool plot points imo and I really liked the main character I couldn't help but be invested in her
The whole atmosphere of this channel just needs to be a real place I can visit. 🧡

That's true, hares are very strongly represented on the covers this time - and I didn't even realize it until someone pointed it out, haha 😅📚
