Not even word of mouth could make me do it, because people said the Fallout show was good, I do not trust Todd, Emil, and the corporate ghouls at zenimax/microsoft to come through with anything worthwhile ever again.
Hopefully the graphics is the only thing that is improved, and they didn't water down the level system, or the spell making. Spell making is one of the best things in oblivion, you can devastate enemies by stacking weaken magic spells and then blasting enemies. I wouldn't mind an improvement to combat though, like having finish moves like in Skyrim, and being able to cancel a drawn bow.
Oblivion ostensibly getting a remaster from Bethesda is such an unexciting idea, I instead wanted to find out where the gameplay footage at 1:30 came from. 5:05 I'm really glad a content creator is bringing this up because while I feel like a re-master of Oblivion with nothing but graphical tweaks would have been great to see a decade or more ago, I feel like at this point only a graphical touch-up would be a gigantic disappointment. I also appreciate that you brought up the jank in BGS games because what would make just a cosmetic re-master a gigantic disappointment is the fact that we remember all of the jankiness of the pre-fallout 4 BGS games with fondness because times were a lot different and we were just a lot younger. The amount of jank in Bethesda games gave them a certain charm, but is in no way actually a good thing to have in a videogame. I think people have largely gotten tired of BGS jank. The lack of polish present in their games I feel is wildly unacceptable in comparison to what the rest of the game industry is putting out so I feel like this Oblivion "remaster/remake" *NEEDS* to do more than just give the game a fresh coat of paint. Because at the end of the day, if I have to spend potentially up to $70 on a remaster of an almost 20 year-old game and then I have to browse Nexus mods anyway to get the usual for a BGS game, then what are we even doing? I don't want Skyrim special edition, or Mass Effect legendary edition. I want actual effort. I want a Demon Souls or Resident Evil or Dead Space level remake.

Im ready to see bethesda’s attempt to ‘fallout 4 next gen patch’ Oblivion. If there was any chance of them fixing anything with it, i might be excited to return to the shivering isles.
I think it will be exactly like Halo Anniversary or even Diablo 2 remaster/remake. Nothing is stopping Bethesda from uppdating combat or such while enchancing the visuals. They can do that if they want to while trying to keep the feel of the game intact. However it remains to be seen what scale this project has taken. Im happy theres an uppdate to one of the best games of that console generation.
They better not make Oblivion censored by removing certain side quest or plots I will be FURIOUS as I have revisited it over 10x in the last 18yrs, don’t ruin the game.
Not really one is a total remake in a new engine, the other will be a dual engine repaint with nothing being added. Bethesda fan are wild for expecting more, considering most remasters that have come out are just remasters nothing more nothing less.
Would be better to remake in current creation engine. Oblivion mods on console! That would be dope. Maybe they can achieve that anyway with the UE5 setup
I think its a good opportunity for a middle ground. To have old oblivion mechanics with better graphics, for purists and a simple cash grab for Todd, to be able to rerelease it into "oblivion" while skyblivion could live like a fan made mega "mod" for skyrim, not infringing on Todds oblivion remake, so they are not threatened by it, if they choose to market it for purists, "the original oblivion experience with a new coat of paint". The worst thing that can happen is warcraft 3 reforged scenario. Deliver sub-par remake, bottom line almost unplayable while banning, removing and burning every other copy, fan made remake, original build etc.
Wonder if this will just be a big patch to Oblivion on steam, similar to how they updated Quake 1/2. Also wondering if somehow this will break all mods for oblivion like they did for fallout 4.
The Oblivion remake will make the Fallout 3 and New Vegas remake possible easier to become reality, they all use the same engine and Oblivion Remake could be used as a framework for the Gamebryo x Unreal Engine union and similar mechanics used in these games
Goddammit. They literally picked the worst ES game to remake. Can't wait for Skyblivion to fucking put them in the ground the same way Fallout London did.
TLDR: Official Oblivion Remake with community mods is the way to go. About my experience: I spent more time in Oblivion than Skyrim. That was my first TES game. I have never gone far more than a few hours into Morrowind, mechanics too old for me. The point: I'm non excited at all about Oblivion Remake, because of Bethesda's latest games quality. But to be fair, this remake is way better chances to be playable than fan made things like Skywind, Skyblivion and Morroblivion that was in development for long time and still not ready. Modders proved that they are amazing at fixing, adjusting and enhancing of Bethesda games, but mediocre at recreating them on newer platform.
The remake is literally a new coat of paint, however this 'new coat of paint' might still be able to use original mods because as crazy as its sounds, the OG game is running on the original engine BENEATH Unreal, so maybe maaaaybe its still possible. I sure hope it is because otherwise its just not worth it, because who tf even plays Oblivion without a mod that fixes the leveling issues. Edit: I'll only play if I can mod the leveling, even at launch I hated this feature, bandits should not be wearing glass.
It doesn't matter what it's called, only new graphics, or different story direction, gameplay, areas etc... Game studios use the words interchangeably. Demons souls is called a remake, and it pretty much only improved the sounds, graphics, and changed a few enemy designs.
Bethesda have know about Skyblivion but they still choose to dedicate resources and time to make their own remake. Feels like a greedy move by Bethesda to capitalize on the hype and interest that mods like Skyblivion has created... Would be better for players if they would have put their resources elsewere.
5 years or so id be so excited now I couldnt care less,I have oblivion so if I want to play it id play it and its not like even current bethesda games look THAT good . I guess some jank could be fixed but id be surprised if that was the case. I expect it to be nothing but a slightly shinier Oblivion and im sure if I wanted that theres probably mods thatll get it pretty close anyways
It’s going to be a dual engine bs. The People worried about Skyblivion being canned shouldn’t worry. The last rumor of Bethesda of shutting any mod down was years ago, for FNV-NC mod but the mod authors made a big stink out of nothing. This weird Bethesda hates modders all of sudden is a weird take.
Being insanely optimistic if they can get anything right it's a remake all they need to do is stick with the source material make the graphics better, maybe improve the combat
Todd Howard saying he doesn't like remakes sounds like an excuse. He doesn't like entertaining good things for his audience, only likes to publicize that their company is doing fine selling Skyrim remasters and Midfield. It's obviously because Bethesda doesn't have any experience or staff involved with remakes. I think having Fallout 1 & 2 stuck on PC doesn't sound like a good business concept in the long run. More people should get to experience those games and their stories.
I think BGS is doing this to gage how well they're doing on TES6. They know they screwed up with Starfield by sticking with Creation Engine. They don't want TES6 to receive a big fat meh reception the way Starfield did. You buying the Oblivion remaster is you paying to alpha test TES6. BGS are hoping they didn't leave it too late to move on from old legacy technology.
More evidence Bethesda doesn't give a fuck about it's community, modders, or anything else. I vowed to never buy another Bethesda game after the Starfield fuckup.
They were working on this before MS bought them right(?) and then it got delayed bc of the new ownership IIRC. Same for FO3 - hope to see the remake(s) soon.... (edit) yeah watch 10 seconds of the video before I commented :)
Modders already made the best version of the game, where you can add every feature you want. I don't think Bethesda can make it any better.. I also don't trust them.

Spot on observations m8
maybe the leaks are part of the hype cycle
On switch would be a dream !!
Tbh I’d be down to play it, 6 years from now when it’s $5, not $70 off the rip.
Im ready to see bethesda’s attempt to ‘fallout 4 next gen patch’ Oblivion. If there was any chance of them fixing anything with it, i might be excited to return to the shivering isles.
As long as they don't C&D Skyblivion this close to release, which would be PR suicide, both can exist.
I think the reason why this Oblivion remaster is real is because of Avowed. Avowed may not be all its cracked up to be. Im still going to play it.
Upscaled game with all of the same game breaking bugs? That’ll be $69.99 + tax
I look forward to NOT buying first-party only Bethesda modded $15 horse armor. Because you know that's what's going on here.
I just hope it’s good
They better not make Oblivion censored by removing certain side quest or plots I will be FURIOUS as I have revisited it over 10x in the last 18yrs, don’t ruin the game.
Remake or remaster? Big difference...one looks good and works on new hardware cost £25 max. Remake is a true 2025 game with the cost of a new game.
running on UE5 so it can look like shit, run like shit, just like GTA3 remaster?
if skyblivion ends up being better than Bethesda's... it's gonna be humiliating
Not really one is a total remake in a new engine, the other will be a dual engine repaint with nothing being added. Bethesda fan are wild for expecting more, considering most remasters that have come out are just remasters nothing more nothing less.
I'm waiting on skyblivion
I have a strong feeling it will be heavily sanitized I hope I am wrong though.
But the reason why it's taking so long to come out because it's not just a remaster.
The Oblivion remake will make the Fallout 3 and New Vegas remake possible easier to become reality, they all use the same engine and Oblivion Remake could be used as a framework for the Gamebryo x Unreal Engine union and similar mechanics used in these games
Music from rayman 3 in the back 🎉
If they don't make it like Skyblivion, then its not worth it, simply as that.
I bet it'll just be a remaster, not a remake.
It doesn't matter what it's called, only new graphics, or different story direction, gameplay, areas etc... Game studios use the words interchangeably. Demons souls is called a remake, and it pretty much only improved the sounds, graphics, and changed a few enemy designs.
it will be a remaster for sure, new coat of paint, some bug fixes, and some tweaks. As long as it has a low cost, i think that will be fine.
its kinda crazy how I have more faith on the modders than bethesda.
It'll be shit and filled with Mtx anyway. Who cares? Bethesda stopped giving a shit with/after FO4.
I bet that this oblivion "remake" just adds the creation club to oblivion and makes everything else even more low quality than it already was.
Being insanely optimistic if they can get anything right it's a remake all they need to do is stick with the source material make the graphics better, maybe improve the combat
If they can use some of the momentum the indy game gave them, then I hope this will be good.
Support Skyblivion
Bethesda suck balls
I think BGS is doing this to gage how well they're doing on TES6. They know they screwed up with Starfield by sticking with Creation Engine. They don't want TES6 to receive a big fat meh reception the way Starfield did. You buying the Oblivion remaster is you paying to alpha test TES6. BGS are hoping they didn't leave it too late to move on from old legacy technology.
More evidence Bethesda doesn't give a fuck about it's community, modders, or anything else.
I vowed to never buy another Bethesda game after the Starfield fuckup.
Bethesda will just make the older games woke 😂
That's my thought as well
They better fix the awful leveling system.
I trust Bethesda to do a good job remaking it as far as I can throw the devs who made Srtarfield.
They were working on this before MS bought them right(?) and then it got delayed bc of the new ownership IIRC. Same for FO3 - hope to see the remake(s) soon.... (edit) yeah watch 10 seconds of the video before I commented :)
I would much rather a morrowind remake than an oblivion remake...
Let's see how Lying Todd can screw this one up. Endless bugs are a given, micro-transactions a possibility, lacklustre effort a certainty.
Modders already made the best version of the game, where you can add every feature you want. I don't think Bethesda can make it any better.. I also don't trust them.
I’m trying to stay positive, but this screams disaster in the making. Worst of all, is how I see a lot of resemblance with the GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition blunder. Here’s to hoping Bethesda doesn’t fumble this 🤞
