The Iron Claw is my biggest surprise of the year. Definitely would recommend it to you Sean if you haven’t seen it. The Von Eirichs were big in Texas and it tells a very emotional story with what I believe as Zach Efron’s best performance
Most surprising for me: Blue Giant, Past Lives, The Holdovers, Nimona, Dungeons and Dragons (I wasn’t aware of these films til they released and I very much enjoyed them) Most disappointing for me: Indiana Jones and The Dial of The Destiny, Napoleon, Scream VI, Quantumania, The Creator (it’s not bad, but I bought into the massive hype most were creating and it didn’t work out for the best) My picks for hidden gems: Suzume, The First Slam Dunk, Past Lives, Blue Giant I won’t say Minus One was surprising for me because I knew it was gonna be great, and I won’t say Wish was disappointing cause I already knew I wasn’t gonna be big on it personally
Hidden Gems: BlackBerry How to Blow Up a Pipeline Past Lives Surprising: The Hunger Games: Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Amongst Thives GOTG Vol 3 (not a James Gunn fan) Wonka Plane Gran Turismo Disappointing: The Creator Evil Dead Rise Maestro Ferrari
I'm glad I'm not the only one who was surprised with Ballad of Songbirds & Gran Turismo. Both movies I didn't have much expectations for but both are pretty good in their plots. I love how they did Snow's arc from compassionate student to dark and jaded leader
Top 5 Biggest Disappointments: 5. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania-While a lot of elements of this film are now pretty much meaningless, for the introduction of Kang the Conqueror, this one was definitely disappointing 4. The Creator-To be very clear, I’m positive on this film, but for how much it was being hyped up for being an original sci-fi epic, this movie certainly let me down as it was essentially a bunch of elements of previous sci-fi projects thrown together to make The Creator 3. Napoleon-On technical levels, this is a well made movie, which made for a decent movie but when it came to the story, characters, and themes, there wasn’t an actual exploration of who Napoleon Bonaparte was, which was rather disappointing 2. Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny-While it’s a good enough closure to the Indiana Jones franchise and character, it lacks the classic movie making of what makes the original trilogy special, and takes Indy to emotional places I think I could’ve done without 1. The Flash-Despite enjoying this movie both times I watched it in theaters, this movie has aged rather poorly for me because of how it executes multiple of its ideas, its terrible CGI, the way the story plays out, and especially how hollow Barry’s journey is by the time the movie wraps up
Same for me with The Creator. I appreciate that its an original movie but it still feels like its not that different from what TLOU, Logan and The Mandalorian was doing
I agree. I wasn’t the biggest fan of it by the end either not as much as so many people and Sean were hyping it up to be. It wasn’t bad, but I definitely didn’t see what all the hype was for…
I've barely seen any Godzilla movies, and Minus One was the first one I'd ever seen in theaters. Truly an amazing, thrilling, and emotional cinematic experience I will never forget. I'm still thinking about the film weeks after I've seen it and want to re-watch it immediately
I loved Godzilla - Minus One. Its been decades since we had a Godzilla movie, where the CGI didn't take you out of the film. It's back to roots, dude in a suit, with minatures and people green screened in, and it has a plot beyond Kaiju smash. Also loved Cocaine Bear. Completely over the top fun, and so loosely based on real events, it's pretty much fiction.

Top movies of the year: The Super Mario Bros Movie Spider Man Across the Spider-Verse TMNT Mutant Mayham Leo by Adam Sandler Guardians of the Galaxy vol.3 John Wick Chapter 4 Transformers: Rise of the Beasts Wonka Barbie Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning Part One Godzilla Minus One
Biggest surprises for me are: Godzilla Minus One-I didn’t even know it was coming out until the reviews Barbenheimer-cultural success The Fablemans-one of my favourite movies of the year. The Marvels-I had no expectations but really enjoyed it. Sound of Freedom-Bro it outperformed MI Dead reconning prt 1 in a crowded summer. Gran Turismo-I wasn’t originally going to watch it but it blew me away. Wonka-I really enjoyed it and I found it captured the joy of Padington Disappointments: Flash-everyone played it up to be the next best Dc film but instead was one of the worst in my opinion. Ant Man and The Wasp Quatumania-Disappointing film with wasted potential. Indiana Jones 5-No one cared. Rebel Moon-Could have been so great if they had characters who we cared about. Wish-Celebrated Disneys 100 year anniversary and no one showed up Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning prt 1-I liked it but it under performed. Aquaman and the lost kingdom-Ended the DCEU on a whimper.
I'm not disappointed with Wish becuz not only was there little hype for that movie but also because Once upon a studio had more heart than the actual movie that didnt do a good job w/ songs or adding a princess that isnt adorkable
Biggest Surprise: The Holdovers. Really came out of nowhere and ended up being one of the best films of the year. Love it Biggest disappointment: Last Voyage of the Demeter has a great concept (Alien but with Dracula and on a boat) but ended up waisting the concept Hidden gem: Shin Ultraman is an absolute blast. It’s a really fun kaiju film that is just a great time
Hey Sean, there is a new Indian movie named Merry Christmas releasing on 5th January (😅 I know it should have been during Christmas but dunki and saalar took all the screens I guess) You should check the movie out. It looks like a Christmas murder mystery movie with some kind of paranormal or sci-fi elements. I think it will be fun to watch.
Scream VI was a disappointment. It felt too much like Scream 2. I loved Oppenheimer. One of few movies that I have watched multiple times. Guardians of the Galaxy vol 3 was the biggest surprise, but so was the first one.
I definitely agree that Gran Turismo, Wonka and Dungeons and Dragons were some of the best surprises of the year. For Gran Turismo, the plot was just so bizarre that it’s enough to check out but it gave a good story, good acting and when we got to the racing scenes, I was always on the edge of my seat. For Wonka, I was amazed by how charming it was. It gave some Paddington vibes and it put a big smile on my face. For Dungeon and Dragons, I just thought it was better than I expected. Some other movies I was surprised by… The Super Mario Bros Movie- everyone thought this would be a flop but instead we got one of the highest grossing movies of 2023 so it’s clear the team making this movie put a lot of work into it. Nimona- seriously how did this movie not get into theatres? It’s so good it should’ve been on the big screen. Dumb Money- I feel like this film just doesn’t get talked about enough. While not mind blowing new, it’s still really good. The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes- it manages to add more to both the world of Hunger Games and to the character of Snow.
Godzilla absolutely brilliant. Also very glad you included The Covenant. I watched it twice in 1 week, I thought it was super engaging, superbly acted and had a really gripping and emotional storyline. Excellent film
Disappointing movies: Flash Meg 2 Ant Man 3 65 Wish Hunger Games Ballad Of Songbirds and Snakes (I wasn’t very excited for it but I thought it would be decent and I thought it was awful) Most surprising Gran Turismo Wonka Elemental I did think these would be at least decent, but I didn’t think I would really like them
I don't think anyone ever would have thought a Godzilla movie would be so good but here we are. Its just so refreshing to have a Godzilla movie that actually has a deep, well written, interesting story with heavy emotion in there, rather than all the modern monsterverse movies that, although are still extremely enjoyable, entertaining movies, have very thin and forgettable stories and characters
Most Disappointing: Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania Shazam! Fury of the Gods Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken It's a Wonderful Knife Five Nights at Freddy's Most Suprising: Renfield Godzilla Minus One The Holdovers Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves Nimona
Hidden Gems: 1. Renfield 2. Infinity Pool 3. The Passenger 4. Sharper 5. Knock at the Cabin Biggest Disappointments: 1. Scream VI (sloppiest script in the franchise, no stakes, reusing a previous motive, weakest killer reveal, and too much plot armor. Solid film but my least favorite of the franchise) 2. Silent Night (Trailer was better than the movie) 3. Haunted Mansion (Forgettable) 4. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (bad cgi, no stakes but still fun) 5. Five Nights at Freddy’s (wasted Matthew Lillard, lack of gore, a bit dull) Biggest Surprise: 1. Saw X (Top 3 in the franchise) 2. Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves 3. Thanksgiving 4. Blue Beetle 5. No Hard Feelings
Ant Man Quantumania was a better film than The Marvels but it was a bigger disappointment because it had the task of setting up Kang. But apparently we don't need the Avengers to take him down, we just need ants
Hidden gems: • Rye Lane (One of the most fresh and stylistic recent rom-coms) • Flora and Son (Not as good as Once or Sing Street, but John Carney still doesn’t miss) • How to Have Sex (Very under-appreciated, stressful and realistic with great acting from some very talented young actors) Disappointments: • Ant-Man: Quantumania (Maybe I shouldn’t have had high hopes for this, but I cant believe it was as bad and ugly as it was) • 65 (I didn’t think this was gonna be great, but a space/dinosaur flick with Adam Driver should’ve been so much more fun, worst film I watched this year) • Asteroid City (Not bad, but it was one of my most anticipated films of the year and imo it’s one of Wes Anderson’s weakest) Surprises: • Dungeons and Dragons (My expectations were as low as they could’ve been and it turned out to be really fun) • Godzilla Minus One (Yea it’s fantastic) • Nimona (Another sweet and creative animated hit from Netflix)
One of the biggest surprises for me was Sisu. I only knew about it because of you and Cody Leach. Kind of a Finnish First Blood. Along with John Wick Chapter 4, one of my favorite action films of the year.
I think some big surprises for me this year were TMNT Mutant Mayhem as the Ninja Turtles don't have the greatest movie history in modern Hollywood and they decided to make it an animated movie in the same year Across the Spider-Verse came out. Another surprise would be The Creator because I only heard about it a couple weeks before it came out and saw it was an original idea Sci-Fi movie which is my favorite movie type to watch. It's also one of the best looking Sci-Fi movies I've ever seen.
Stormy Daniels was one of your best puns yet! Surprises: The Covenant,Cobweb,Past Lives,Pain Hustlers,Godzilla Minus One Disappointments: The Flash, Napoleon (It'll still be in my top 20-25),It’s A Wonderful Knife,Hypnotic,65
Great video Sean the movies that surprise the most this year were beau is Afraid because I was a fan of the director and I did relate a lot to the main character and Godzilla is a another film that surprises me because it gives me a different type of Godzilla
Rebel Moon was definitely a big disappointment, but maybe the Rated R version is better. Silent Night was also awful, I dunno wtf John Woo was trying to do, but he failed.
How am I only now finding out about the "Missing" movie. I am not even certain that I will like it very much; it is just such an interesting way to frame a story.
My most disappointing - Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania - Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny My most surprising - Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves - The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes
Biggest surprise: Haven't seen Godzilla Minus One yet...but i will!! My biggest surprise was D&D, i loved it, watched it two times, funny but respecting the lore, great characters. The other one was Super Mario Bros Movie, with the exception of the over-used songs that Illumination likes to put, is a love letter to the Mario games, and my first experience in theater with my son. And happily (or saddly, depending on you) Guardians Vol 3, after many disappointments with the MCU, i wasn't very optimistic about this one, but it turns to be one of my favorite movies of the MCU, my favorite since Endgame, for sure. Biggest dissapointment: Indy...c'mon! is true, this movie, like this, didn't had to exist, and to me after hearing Spielberg wasn't on it, i wasn't intersted. And The Flash, i wasn't expecting a masterpiece, but this film feels so unfinished, from the AWFUL CGI (and i'm one of those who doesn't give a f**** about special effects) to the script, they did injustice to Flashpoint, and they give a mediocre movie to the great Michael Keaton to say goodbye to his iconic Batman.
I would say the biggest surprise of the year was Sound of Freedom. I was a really powerful movie and surprisingly good. The box office was also really good.
Mine is Gran Turismo. Underdog story are cliche for me, but Gran Turismo was an underdog story done right, engaging action scenes and great mentor-apprentice relationship
I really hated how quick to harass people who loved the movie were to TH-camrs who gave it any criticism (even if they gave it a positive review!). It was like "you said something negative about this movie, you must like child sex trafficking." Drove me crazy. Movie was decent but had some inaccuracies (and the way people spoke about it, it should have been spotless)
Blackberry was somewhat surprising for me because it looked like a cheap and generic "true story" type film when I first heard of its development Then I saw the trailer and heard about the buzz from the festivals it premiered at and was really anticipating it. Definitely one of my favourites of 2023
Honestly the biggest surprise for me was both Dungeons & Dragons Honor Among Thieves and Gran Turismo, they looked awful from trailers until I saw the movie and was shocked by how good both movies were. As for my biggest disappointment it definitely was Silent Night, Five Nights At Freddy and Rebel Moon, such wasted potential. Hidden gem is Renfield
Dissapointments: Shazam Fury Of The Gods, Five Nights At Freddys, Rebel Moon, 65, Antman & The Wasp Quantumania. Surprises: The Iron Claw, Nimona, BlackBerry, Wonka, Talk To Me
12:54 You used Spain's poster for wish. That's cool because I live in Spain but, Why did you use the spanish version of the poster instead of the american poster?🤔
biggest disappointment for me was silent night, the legendary john woo returns to deliver a truly awful "action" movie that has maybe 10 minutes of action and a hour and thirty three minutes of exposition dump without any actual exposition because apparently the main character not being able to speak means that everyone else in the film decides to not speak in solidarity with him? also when the action does happen, it comes across as D grade john wick............my how the mighty have fallen
The movies and shows i found surprisingly enjoyable were Indiana Jones and Ahoska. Before watching it, i thought it was going to be ass, despite some flaws i found to really like the Indiana Jones 5th movie. Is it the best movie, no ,is it the worst movie, no, its one of underrated gems to me. For Ahsoka, before it came out, i thought it was going to suck and be ass. But, after watching it, i found absolutely loving it. Even though it has a flaws, its one of the highlights for me.
I would say hidden gem for me: The Creator Biggest Disappointment for me: Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania Biggest Surprise that I enjoyed: A Haunting in Venice and Dungeons and Dragons Honor Among Thieves
I wouldn't really blame Zack Snyder for the PG-13 version of Rebel Moon that is out now because that one is not the real movie. I would blame Netflix for giving us this version instead of the directors cut first because I truly believe that one is going to be the better version. People that were anticipating this movie should be pleased that we are promised a directors cut in the near future. I am surprised that Sean didn't even bring up the fact of the directors cut. Don't blame Zack Snyder blame Netflix because that is what I would do.
It's in my top 10 for the year. While it wasn't entirely on my radar, it also isn't surprising to me that I would like a sports dramas. It's a genre I tend throughly enjoy. So surprise isn't the word which comes to mind for it.
My most disappointing movies of 2023 The Marvels Super Mario Bros Rebel Moon (I really liked it and I am excited for the Snyder cut for this and part two I’m also really excited for part 2 but I think it should have been top tier this year) My most surprising movies of 2023 Iron Claw Air MI 7(I was so excited but it was even better than I thought it would be and It is top 5 movie of all time for me yes I adored it that much)
man i saw flash, transformers and Godzilla minus one in theaters this year so idk what i can say are disappointments but Godzilla wasnt really a surprise that it was so good because i had some expectations that when i heard about it that it was gonna be pretty good but it turned out to be a great great film. Transformers at least for me personally i enjoyed in the theater and I just truly thought ok now we can have good transformer movies with bumblebee before this and now Transformers rise of the beasts i actually see a bright future for transformers movies which was to me very surprising at least for me. Flash well it wasnt the best it wasnt the worst i enjoyed some of the movie in the theater but ya know it wasnt disappointing because I wasnt expecting much but I had some fun with it so I guess im just glad i didnt see many movies this year which i kinda hate saying but it is what it is if there arent movies I want to see right.
Rebel Moon did the well known bad thing of saving everything for the sequel. But even worse, they completely misunderstood the whole "Snyder Cut" Justice League thing by teasing a better "director's cut" movie. You just cannot do that with your OWN movie. The film was just so badly done with non-existent motivations and clearly edited to cut major things about the story (ex. the women with the lightsabers where they do not even tell us who she is and just places her in some side story like it is in the middle of a separate movie with some spider -woman thing). I could not even finish it. It was the worst kind of bad, it was incompetent.
So my biggest surprise for this year was Ruby Gilman: teenage Kraken. I had no interest in seeing it at all because I thought it looked bad, and if I did see it, it was probably going to be in the top Five of worst movies. It was a lot better than I thought and it’s right in the middle for me in terms of movies that I saw this year. I would have to say my biggest disappointment is either Renfield or about my father. With Renfield, you get Nicolas Hoult and Nicolas Cage where cage plays Dracula and it just wasn’t as great as I thought. With about my father, Sebastian Maniscalco is one of my favorite current stand-up comics, and teaming him up with Robert De Niro should’ve been amazing and it was ruined because all the funny moments are in the trailer.
It’s a real shame Wish is “a disappointment.” That movie was phenomenal and critic reviews panned it for the things it excelled in! This will be a movie Disney will remember in their parks, and I’m sure that if society can learn to love the company again, we’ll remember it too
As a huge Godzilla fan ( I watched all 37 movies) I'm so happy Godzilla Minus One is getting the deserved attention and hype and that people see what Godzilla was originally meant to be, the metaphor of the horror of atomic bombs and an anti-war film. Out of all the Godzilla films clearly my favourite film.
Biggest surprise would easily be Godzilla Minus One. Top 3 of the year for me. D&D was a surprise. I think Totally Killer was a pleasant surprise (thank you Sean for making me aware of its existence). There's also a smaller Tamil film, Chittha, that came out this year. Not a blockbuster, not an action film, it is a drama (and a hard one at that). Did not have it on my radar, and it is easily my favourite Indian film of 2023. Stand out disappointments would be Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Wish, as well as Animal (sorry to the fans, but it did not float my boat). Obviously every Indian would say Adipurush, but I guess I expected it to suck after that first teaser. I did like The Creator and The Flash, but they were below my expectations. However, my biggest disappointment of 2023, is easily Dunki. Shahrukh Khan in his 'return from hiatus' year. Back to back with Pathaan, and Jawan. This time a comedy-drama, with a message, and with the director of 3 Idiots. Did not expect it to be so mediocre.
You’re like the 4th comment I see that was disappointed with The Creator, and so I’m low key glad I’m not the only one who was disappointed with it, especially after all the hype it got on the channel. I didn’t think it was bad, but not astounding either…
The two biggest surprises for me this year was The boy and the Heron and Godzilla Minus One. The Godzilla movies tend to focus on the monster, while minus one focuses on the characters making such a good movie out of the Godzilla can be plucked out of the movie and not hurt the story whatsoever.
Hot take: the most underrated movie of this year was The Last Voyage of the Demeter. I thought it would just be a generic horror movie, but I was genuinely blown away by how well-made and entertaining it was.
I have that one fairly high up in full year list and I liked it more than most. It was the set design, atmosphere and characters that I made that movie worth while.
@@brianng8350 I'd say that's just because there are SO MANY dracula movies that exist, as well as vampire and horror movies in general. But I like how Last Voyage changed Dracula's character from what we are used to, making him scarier in a different way. The other characters also made the movie much better, and there were some great emotional moments (the last scene with Toby comes to mind). I also liked how the characters were different from the typical characters in most dracula movies. Those are just 2 reasons why I really liked the movie, but I'm probably not going to change your mind. But hey, to each their own
Biggest surprise for me was Pixar's Elemental. Saw trailers and did not think too much of it. Watched it this week with my wife and we were both moved by how relatable the love story is and the quality of the animation! It is now one of our favorite movies to watch together! That is saying a lot as I am not usually one to gravitate to a romantic comedy or even get emotional over it.
My biggest surprise of the year would actually be one I watched last night and that’s Oppenheimer it’s my first Nolan film so I thought it’d be a regular drama biopic but it’s so much more and it’s a 4/5 for me
My most surprisingly 1. Godzilla Minus one 2. Poor things 3. Dream scenario 4. Totally Killer 5. Nimona Keep in mind these are just the biggest surprises. Although some of them are in my top five favorite movies of the year. I just didn’t have high expectations for some of them.
That Dungeons & Dragons movie deserved to do so much better at the box office. Such a great movie and one of my favorite films this year. Still holding out hope that a sequel will happen. Godzilla Minus One is definitely for me the best Godzilla film. I do agree Indiana Jones 5 was a disappointment because I was really hoping for the franchise to end on a great note instead of just being ok. In my headcannon his story ended with the final shot in last crusade. Great job as always with your videos.
Biggest surprises: Godzilla Minus One, Cobweb, Renfield, When Evil Lurks, D&D Biggest disappointments: Knock at the Cabin (the story really fell off for me as the movie went on), John Wick 4 (the action scenes go on far too long), The Boy and the Heron (I wanted to like this more than I did), Talk to Me (I heard all the praise, I liked the concept but didn't care for the characters)
Godzilla minus one fantastic best film of the year also who knows this might be the wake up call for Hollywood or it could be their demise and more of these independent and foreign companies can show what they can do without Hollywood burying them
(Spoilers for Godzilla minus one in this comment) My biggest disappointment: Napoleon, you have one of greatest directors teaming up with his fellow coworker who’s a Oscar award winning actor in Joaquin Phoenix who is playing one of the greatest war generals in history and it just seemed bland. This movie should’ve been much more action packed and less romantically focused than what it was making the film messy and a complete head scratcher. Most surprising: Godzilla minus one. I was never too fond of the other Godzilla movies but I saw this one because I was hearing good things about so I watched it with my aunt and uncle and I was blown away. From start to finish I was immediately captured by the main character and his emotional journey from when he first survives the Godzilla attack to him falling in love with a girl he randomly met because she was struggling to take care of a random baby she had to take care of. Godzilla was fantastic and the score they had playing in the final fight scene is honestly iconic as I’ll never forget that. Then to put the icing on the cake, the plot twist at the end that reveals the main character’s girlfriend/wife never actually died had me in complete shock and just blew we away with how everything was perfect as my only complaint was that the movie unfortunately ended. Was my 3rd favorite film of 2023 and easily the one that surprised me the most.

It was Epic in my opinion
Screw all y’all and whoever got to see that masterpiece …I didn’t know it was gonna a limited release and didn’t get a chance to see it😢🤦♂️
Napoleon and Rebel Moon were by far the biggest disappointments of the year for me, was ridiculously excited for both 😔

The Mario movie was a good surprise for me. I thought it looked really bad based on the trailers but it was actually pretty good imo.
Hell yeah, The Mario movie is easily one of the best Illumination movies and it was what Ralph breaks the Internet should have been fun and exciting
It tooks 20 years to do a good Mario movie!
I agree, such a fun and entertaining movie

I'm not disappointed with Wish becuz not only was there little hype for that movie but also because Once upon a studio had more heart than the actual movie that didnt do a good job w/ songs or adding a princess that isnt adorkable
@@Ruben_Kenny I think it released in the uk in 2023
Biggest Surprise: The Holdovers. Really came out of nowhere and ended up being one of the best films of the year. Love it
Biggest disappointment: Last Voyage of the Demeter has a great concept (Alien but with Dracula and on a boat) but ended up waisting the concept
Hidden gem: Shin Ultraman is an absolute blast. It’s a really fun kaiju film that is just a great time
I saw Shin Ultraman at fantastic fest in 2022!
Some other movies I was surprised by…
The Super Mario Bros Movie- everyone thought this would be a flop but instead we got one of the highest grossing movies of 2023 so it’s clear the team making this movie put a lot of work into it.
Godzilla minus one was amazing
Godzilla absolutely brilliant. Also very glad you included The Covenant. I watched it twice in 1 week, I thought it was super engaging, superbly acted and had a really gripping and emotional storyline. Excellent film
Most surprising for me has to be Dungeons and Dragons. Still one of my fav movies of the year.
Disappointing movies:
Flash
Meg 2
Ant Man 3
65
Wish
Hunger Games Ballad Of Songbirds and Snakes (I wasn’t very excited for it but I thought it would be decent and I thought it was awful)
Most surprising
Gran Turismo
Wonka
Elemental
I did think these would be at least decent, but I didn’t think I would really like them
Godzilla Minus 1 blew me away.
Most Disappointing:
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania
Shazam! Fury of the Gods
Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken
It's a Wonderful Knife
Five Nights at Freddy's
Most Suprising:
Renfield
Godzilla Minus One
The Holdovers
Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves
Nimona
Hidden Gems:
1. Renfield
2. Infinity Pool
3. The Passenger
4. Sharper
5. Knock at the Cabin
Biggest Disappointments:
1. Scream VI (sloppiest script in the franchise, no stakes, reusing a previous motive, weakest killer reveal, and too much plot armor. Solid film but my least favorite of the franchise)
2. Silent Night (Trailer was better than the movie)
3. Haunted Mansion (Forgettable)
4. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (bad cgi, no stakes but still fun)
5. Five Nights at Freddy’s (wasted Matthew Lillard, lack of gore, a bit dull)
Biggest Surprise:
1. Saw X (Top 3 in the franchise)
2. Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves
3. Thanksgiving
4. Blue Beetle
5. No Hard Feelings
Ant Man Quantumania was a better film than The Marvels but it was a bigger disappointment because it had the task of setting up Kang. But apparently we don't need the Avengers to take him down, we just need ants
Hidden gems:
• Rye Lane (One of the most fresh and stylistic recent rom-coms)
• Flora and Son (Not as good as Once or Sing Street, but John Carney still doesn’t miss)
• How to Have Sex (Very under-appreciated, stressful and realistic with great acting from some very talented young actors)
Disappointments:
• Ant-Man: Quantumania (Maybe I shouldn’t have had high hopes for this, but I cant believe it was as bad and ugly as it was)
• 65 (I didn’t think this was gonna be great, but a space/dinosaur flick with Adam Driver should’ve been so much more fun, worst film I watched this year)
• Asteroid City (Not bad, but it was one of my most anticipated films of the year and imo it’s one of Wes Anderson’s weakest)
Surprises:
• Dungeons and Dragons (My expectations were as low as they could’ve been and it turned out to be really fun)
• Godzilla Minus One (Yea it’s fantastic)
• Nimona (Another sweet and creative animated hit from Netflix)
One of the biggest surprises for me was Sisu. I only knew about it because of you and Cody Leach. Kind of a Finnish First Blood. Along with John Wick Chapter 4, one of my favorite action films of the year.
TMNT and Godzilla are my shockers for the year, two of the best theather experiences as well. (Besides Oppenhimer)
Most surprising: D&D, Gran Turismo, mission impossible, Godzilla, The Holdovers, Air and Knock at the cabin.
Surprises: The Covenant,Cobweb,Past Lives,Pain Hustlers,Godzilla Minus One
Disappointments: The Flash, Napoleon (It'll still be in my top 20-25),It’s A Wonderful Knife,Hypnotic,65
Hey Sean! Will you be doing your livestream of all the movies you’ve seen?
Also glad you included Dungeons and Dragons on your surprise list!
he also does an end of the year livestream of the movies of the year, so yes
biggest surprise for me was aquaman 2. expected it to be generic and horrible but it was good enough
100%
How am I only now finding out about the "Missing" movie. I am not even certain that I will like it very much; it is just such an interesting way to frame a story.
My most disappointing
- Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania
- Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny
My most surprising
- Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves
- The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes
My biggest surprise was how huge barbie and Oppenheimer were. I thought they were both gonna be critic movies that didn't do well at the box office
Gran Turismo is by far the biggest surprise this year for me
I consider The Creator both a hidden gem a big surprise
Id easily watch an extended cut
It came from a major studio. Just because a big studio movie bombed doesn't make it a hidden movie
Had lots of advertising
@@nms7872 I was unaware of the film until September 24

Overrated
I would agree with this! It was impactful and well done.
Yeah agreed 👍
Mine is Gran Turismo. Underdog story are cliche for me, but Gran Turismo was an underdog story done right, engaging action scenes and great mentor-apprentice relationship
I really hated how quick to harass people who loved the movie were to TH-camrs who gave it any criticism (even if they gave it a positive review!). It was like "you said something negative about this movie, you must like child sex trafficking." Drove me crazy. Movie was decent but had some inaccuracies (and the way people spoke about it, it should have been spotless)
Movies I forgot came out this year: The Covenant, Operation Fortune, Blackberry, Fast X, Elemental, M3Gan
Blackberry was somewhat surprising for me because it looked like a cheap and generic "true story" type film when I first heard of its development
Then I saw the trailer and heard about the buzz from the festivals it premiered at and was really anticipating it.
Definitely one of my favourites of 2023
Hidden gems: Ruby Gillman, Paw Patrol 2, Renfield, Nimona
Most surprising films: Barbie, Wonka
My biggest surprise was Dungeons and dragons
My biggest disappointment was The Flash
Same here!
The covenant was one of my favorites of the year, so underrated
Biggest Disappointment: The Flash
Biggest surprise: TMNT Mutant Mayhem
Honestly the biggest surprise for me was both Dungeons & Dragons Honor Among Thieves and Gran Turismo, they looked awful from trailers until I saw the movie and was shocked by how good both movies were.
As for my biggest disappointment it definitely was Silent Night, Five Nights At Freddy and Rebel Moon, such wasted potential.
Hidden gem is Renfield
Dissapointments: Shazam Fury Of The Gods, Five Nights At Freddys, Rebel Moon, 65, Antman & The Wasp Quantumania.
Surprises: The Iron Claw, Nimona, BlackBerry, Wonka, Talk To Me
Dissapointments:
Wish
FNAF
Miraculous Ladybug
Indiana Jones 5
Barbie
Surprises:
Little Mermaid 2023
The Marvels
65
Hidden Gem:
Polite Society
Missing
Crater (Disney+ Movie)
12:54 You used Spain's poster for wish. That's cool because I live in Spain but, Why did you use the spanish version of the poster instead of the american poster?🤔
biggest disappointment for me was silent night, the legendary john woo returns to deliver a truly awful "action" movie that has maybe 10 minutes of action and a hour and thirty three minutes of exposition dump without any actual exposition because apparently the main character not being able to speak means that everyone else in the film decides to not speak in solidarity with him? also when the action does happen, it comes across as D grade john wick............my how the mighty have fallen
Hey you should check out A24 the iron claw it is easily top 10 movie of 2023
The movies and shows i found surprisingly enjoyable were Indiana Jones and Ahoska.
0:30 I was thinking the same thing.
Migration was a top film!
I would say hidden gem for me: The Creator
Biggest Disappointment for me: Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania
Biggest Surprise that I enjoyed: A Haunting in Venice and Dungeons and Dragons Honor Among Thieves
Saltburn was a big suprise for me, great film
Why don't more ppl understand 15 million dollars is a shit ton of yen
What about The Iron Claw?
It's in my top 10 for the year. While it wasn't entirely on my radar, it also isn't surprising to me that I would like a sports dramas. It's a genre I tend throughly enjoy. So surprise isn't the word which comes to mind for it.
14:05 Hahaha…good one, Sean!😂😂
Can you rank every Disney channel original movie
Her name is Storm Reid not Stormy. Just lettin you know
My most disappointing movies of 2023
The Marvels
Super Mario Bros
Rebel Moon (I really liked it and I am excited for the Snyder cut for this and part two I’m also really excited for part 2 but I think it should have been top tier this year)
My most surprising movies of 2023
Iron Claw
Air
MI 7(I was so excited but it was even better than I thought it would be and It is top 5 movie of all time for me yes I adored it that much)
Why didn’t you like the Mario Movie?
@@xenophonanthony2791 I liked it but I excepted more
Why not do a rank of Burton movies?
I kind of enjoyed 65.
man i saw flash, transformers and Godzilla minus one in theaters this year so idk what i can say are disappointments but Godzilla wasnt really a surprise that it was so good because i had some expectations that when i heard about it that it was gonna be pretty good but it turned out to be a great great film.
Disney/Pixar is toast. Illumination/Dreamworks are on the come up!
Illumination sucks.
Sean really should watch The Boy and the Heron.
He did. He wasn’t a big fan of it as he isn’t with much of Ghibli…
I am officially disappointed that he won't consider doing a ranking of Hayao Miyazaki films.
@@mitchellryan7621 not like we can force him. Best to accept it and move on, but I understand as a massive Ghibli and Miyazaki fan…
For me indiana jones gets too much hate. Its top 3 indiana jones for me, and just overall a great movie
Agreed!
Sorry my boy I just cannot agree but I’ll respect your opinion 👍
If rebel Moon part 2 is spectacular will we look at rebel Moon part 1 better because it's another setup part 1 movie or worse
Especially with the real (Directors) cut coming. Stupid marketing idea, but I'll be watching it
65 was the worst
Sean I feel like Disneypointment is a good potential buzzword you could try to make a thing I laughed anyway.
Nahhh, Operation Fortune sucked
11:38
It’s a real shame Wish is “a disappointment.” That movie was phenomenal and critic reviews panned it for the things it excelled in! This will be a movie Disney will remember in their parks, and I’m sure that if society can learn to love the company again, we’ll remember it too
First❤
As a huge Godzilla fan ( I watched all 37 movies) I'm so happy Godzilla Minus One is getting the deserved attention and hype and that people see what Godzilla was originally meant to be, the metaphor of the horror of atomic bombs and an anti-war film.
@@NinthShinigami Yes. I think a lot of love it is getting is just that it's a new "original" sci-fi blockbuster. But, was it really?
vampire vs werewolf
The two biggest surprises for me this year was The boy and the Heron and Godzilla Minus One. The Godzilla movies tend to focus on the monster, while minus one focuses on the characters making such a good movie out of the Godzilla can be plucked out of the movie and not hurt the story whatsoever.
Glad to hear it man. Might just be my fanboy-ism but Miyazaki always delivers 🔥
i don't like dinosaurs

Godzilla: MInus One came out of nowhere and *STOMPED* past expectations for me
Hot take: the most underrated movie of this year was The Last Voyage of the Demeter. I thought it would just be a generic horror movie, but I was genuinely blown away by how well-made and entertaining it was.
I agree
I have that one fairly high up in full year list and I liked it more than most. It was the set design, atmosphere and characters that I made that movie worth while.
It was well done, but it is pretty generic and forgetful at the end of the day.
But hey, to each their own
I got a new favorite movie of all time this year (Godzilla minus one). Going for my 4th viewing this week.
Elemental is pretty charming amd better written than a lot of Dreamworks films this year
@@noobmasterruben5167what do you mean “a lot of dreamworks movies?” There was only 2 this year.
@@andreimcallister1365 lol I may have mistyped that I meant all the Dreamworks films 😅
Finally, someone who likes elemental
My biggest surprise of the year would actually be one I watched last night and that’s Oppenheimer it’s my first Nolan film so I thought it’d be a regular drama biopic but it’s so much more and it’s a 4/5 for me
Minus One was the biggest surprise and one of the few movies I’ve ever given a perfect score. Just incredible
My most surprisingly
1. Godzilla Minus one
2. Poor things
3. Dream scenario
4. Totally Killer
5. Nimona
Keep in mind these are just the biggest surprises.
Biggest surprises: Godzilla Minus One, Cobweb, Renfield, When Evil Lurks, D&D
Biggest disappointments: Knock at the Cabin (the story really fell off for me as the movie went on), John Wick 4 (the action scenes go on far too long), The Boy and the Heron (I wanted to like this more than I did), Talk to Me (I heard all the praise, I liked the concept but didn't care for the characters)
Godzilla minus one fantastic best film of the year also who knows this might be the wake up call for Hollywood or it could be their demise and more of these independent and foreign companies can show what they can do without Hollywood burying them
(Spoilers for Godzilla minus one in this comment)
My biggest disappointment: Napoleon, you have one of greatest directors teaming up with his fellow coworker who’s a Oscar award winning actor in Joaquin Phoenix who is playing one of the greatest war generals in history and it just seemed bland.
Dissapointed
