Arr was assistant to Mr. Viji manuel who was pianist to I.r. arr had worked with many m.ds apart from raja that includes raj koti, tr, etc. Not just raja. FYI raja is good so is rahman his compositions are some way above comparison. Let this be clear to you that just coz arr temporarily worked under raja as session player does nt mean he is inferior. Oscars grammys golden Globes, all are under his feet.. Period

Not just a blend of Indian classical and jazz (although I'd call it soul/pop), but also a heavy dose of Bach in the initial chorus and the bass lines during the Bharatnatyam dance sequence. Raaja is a genius beyond compare.

He considers MUSIC as ONE entity (NO OTHER music director could think in that realm; he is on a different plane altogether)! That is why we mortals are able to relish such timeless classics and wonder how he combines multiple genres so seamlessly and yet make it sound cohesive as if it is the norm. That is why he is the FINEST COMPOSER of India, and certainly even above an Ennio Morricone or John Williams.

Fun fact about this movie. Bharatiraja is the director. Everyone kind of put him in a box saying oh Bharatiraja is only good for village movies, he doesn't know anything about making a movie that happens in the city or the modern progressive culture. In fact they made low key fun of him saying oh look, another village movie by Bharathiraja, then he said he can direct modernized movies too, and they laughed at him saying what the hell does he know about making modern movies with city characters.. So it was a dare. Then he dropped his village movies, and directed this the next year, the first tamil movie to have a woman in bikini, English speaking characters, club life scenes, hotels, hookers everything else in a murder mystery thriller leading Kamal Haasan. Look up Bharathiraja, he was the director that Maniratam badly wanted to work as an intern for, but got turned down.

I suggest you react to a masterpiece by Raaja Sir called "Thumbi Vaa". The same composition exists in Tamil , Telugu and Hindi but the original piece was in Malayalam sung by S Janaki who sang this song. Great bass lines in that song as well. Great song with very short gaps for breath but this legendary singer nailed that song. Please react to that.
