I have been going to Old Salem at least once a year (or more) since I was about 8 or 9. I'm moving into my mid 50's. I have always called it my happy place. But we haven't went during the pandemic. We decided to go today. My kids love exploring the book store that was down where the current Stitchs. And where ihe pottery is now was another gift shop. Both of the merchants would share the items that the trades had been making. My 14 year old gasped today after we purchased a book in the only merchants shop that is selling retail items. The store room was open and their shipping boxed were stacked up. From now on we will shop from Amazon. She felt so let down. It's just not the same Old Salem as it was prepandemic. I have not been to Bethabara, I think we will visit there next.
I am sorry you and your family felt let down as well. I am sure you were also impressed with the beauty of Old Salem. I am really hopping they are able to come back post pandemic. I would definitely check out Historic Bethabara.
@@resistthegrind We did enjoy the beauty. I'm a Realtor and every time we visit I find something new to love about all of the homes, the gardens. I do hope the reenactment folks, the trade folks, horse drawn carriage rides and another merchant will return. Were going back in October for the Haunted Tour. Im excited. Love the Moravian star in the bridge. Too bad so many interpreters are gone from Old Salem. Kind of surprised they still charge that much
