the crazy thing about ariana is even if she's not riffing and belting on her newer songs, she definitely is during the live versions. ariana live is a whole new experience she just adds in new notes and new riffs to all songs.

not only she's probably the best vocalist of our generation, she's also an incredibly talented vocal producer, she vocal produced and co-wrote on every track of her last two albums (and a lot of the others) ♡ anyways i was surprised you didn't like thank u, next because it's her most popular album and arguably her best one😭

Noooooo Thank U Next is definitely a fan favorite because of it’s hip hop/ trap aesthetic! Personally I still can’t get over the production and vocals presented in Sweetner. As someone who’s been a fan since literally the start of her career (and I think other fans feel this way) I think the emotional appeal is subjective in a sense that we apply our own values to some songs based on our current situations and Sweetner was a huge one for that. Also Get Well Soon that last track was literally dedicated to the victims of the Manchester bombing in (2017 I believe). She also released Breathin which detailed issues with anxiety following the Manchester attack. I’m obsessed. Anyway, Thank You Next, famously mentions her dead relationships with Pete Davidson and Mac Miller. The track Ghostin is the most intimate, she writes about having an overwhelming amount of love for Malcom to the point that it was causing issues with she and Pete. It also reveals the pain she held after Mac died.
Positions is breath of fresh air because she writes all about the fun, lustful, happiness; she’s experiencing in her new marriage with Dalton Gomez. Many speculate ‘Off The Table’ Ft The Weeknd, suggests Ariana never thought she’d find real love again after Mac died but she eventually found Dalton. Intentionally all the songs are quick fun bops because she’s really honestly just happy.

I feel like the second half of her discography (sweetener, tun, positions) is every fan’s favorite. I mean the debut, My Everything and Dangerous Woman definitely had a bunch of bops and classics we all love but the aesthetic, the songwriting and vocals on the second half just hits different yk

  • @marcelo03
    @marcelo03 ปีที่แล้ว +128

    sweetener #1 lets goooooo
ariana and pharrell are a perfect combination imo. as a big ari fan, i can definitely say her personality REALLY shines through when they work together.
also, you’re totally right about her discography being divided into two different moments. because of the unfortunate manchester incident and mac miller’s passing, she completely changed the direction of her career and switched up her sound. i’d say knowing more about her background and having a bit more of context are essential when listening to the second half of her discography because those albums deal a lot with healing and personal growth, which i feel like only people who watched her trajectory during that period of time will completely understand (and maybe that’s why thank u next didn’t click with you).
but i loved your video, and i’m glad you enjoyed her music! looking forward to your next ones!

to answer your question of why ariana is so famous, other than her music and talent i'd say its definitely her personality and relationship with her fans. as someone whose been a fan of hers since 2013, ariana used to communicate with her fans through twitter to almost an unhealthy degree. she's been taking steps to heal herself ever since about 2020 which is about the time twitter became a toxic cesspool and has deactivated her account now but back then she would almost login daily and tweet with her fans to the point where she recognized them by username in person. its actually kind of crazy to think an artist of her status maintained such a close relationship with fans. she had inside jokes with fans and spoke to them like they were friends. as for her personality i'd say she's not what you'd expect her to be, her humor is very raunchy and she loves musical theatre.

    • @jasonpaulkim
      @jasonpaulkim  ปีที่แล้ว +13

I kind of disagree with what you said about her fans not listening to her music for the lyrics. I think some Arianators would agree with me because to some, her music is therapy. Actually, I became a fan when I was depressed. Every time I'd listen to her music, I'd immediately feel better. Special shoutout to breathin. I also feel like I can relate to her, but that's probably because we have the same zodiac sign lmao. As for the emotional value of her songs, I think you would've appreciated it more if you were her fan since day 1. As for the hot pussy pink pop vibes, I see it as a facade of what she really feels. It's a strong approach toward her traumatic experiences in the past. She's been through so much and I'm just so proud of her. She's a woman now.

When she was at tour in the DW era, the Manchester attack occurred, she was devastated, you can look up more ab it and view interviews, apart of making a beneficial show, Ari’s response to these difficult times and to overcome mental health issues was creating the sweetener album, songs like get well soon or breathin are like her talking to her fans. In interviews ab this album she just completely brakes in tears. Also in TUN, she express her vulnerability, as you said she was dating Pete, he even proposed her, but when Mac Miller died she didn’t wanted to be with him anymore, bc she still misses Mac: she talked ab this in ghostin (her most vulnerable song), songs like fake smile and in my head are rlly open ab herself as a person. In Positions you can see yeah a little more sex and everything but here Ariana is already married, so songs like six thirty, safety net, pov and off the table make a lot of sense. You’re amazing for doing these type of videos congrats! Great video as always, and I agree with your verdict! Especially in regards to the emotional appeal aspect of her music. Ariana’s discography overall is enjoyable to me, but it never struck an emotional core to me because she’s not necessarily a singer-songwriter in the same vein like Taylor Swift, and that’s usually the type of artists that I usually gravitate to on a personal level. And I do vaguely remember Ariana herself in the Sweetner era implying that her earlier works didn’t have that personal feel in comparison to Sweetner.

my ranking | with average score of all songs from 0-10
    *#1 Dangerous Woman* | 9.15/10
    - out of 19 songs... i don't really listen to 2, I Don't Care and Let Me Love You... but others are on repeat all the time. The harmonies are top tier and i recommend watching the hidden and background harmonies video... it really shows how deep Ariana goes in detail and the high notes are just mesmerizing. Production is amazing and the album is consistent with amazing songs
    - 10/10 songs : Into You (top 3 from her), Greedy, Everyday, Touch It, Thinking 'bout You, Side To Side, Focus, Dangerous Woman
    - least fav : I Don't Care (6.2/10)
    *#2 Sweetener* | 8.90/10
    - it maybe has a lower score than Tun, but i like it more overall as an album, mostly bc it has her all time best songs like ntltc & giaw, and few more in Top 15 from her. It has 2 ok songs which i don't listen to, which bring score down a lot. Other songs are defenitely not just there, in fact, everything else is AMAZING. This album is a grower and the best album to listen to on a bad day, or period in life. btw, successful & sweetener are overhated and amazing songs.
10/10s : no tears left to cry (all time best), god is a woman (2nd atb), goodnight 'n go (top 10) breathin' (Top 10 as well), everytime (close to top 10 lol)
    least favs : borderline (6.3), blazed (6.5)
    *#3 thank u, next* | 9.10/10
    - it is more consistent than Swt which is why it has better score, but by a 1% i like Swt more. It is her most iconic album and era and i'm glad she found that much of a success with it bc it is an amazing album. I still to this day cannot believe it won 0 Grammys out of 5 nominations...
10/10s : imagine, in my head, bad idea, 7 rings, bloodline
least fav : make up (7.5)
    *#4 Positions* | 8.89/10
    - by a 0.1, it is fourth, but at the same lvl as Tun easily. It is her most mature one so far and vocally best. It is also kinda misunderstood at times bc of few sexual songs, but it talks ab way more than sex especially on pov, off the table, just like magic, safety net... I feel like it deserves more love, and recognition bc it is also better with each listen
10/10s : safety net, off the table, just like magic, main thing, motive, positions
least fav : worst behavoir (7/10)
    *#5 My Everything* | 8.64/10
    - her first big album and era, people dislike it bc it is incohesive and bc it sounds like a playlist, which is true but i don't mind that at all, she did what was supposed to be done bc she needed to get those hits at that part of her carrer and she did get em, the album accomplished what was needed. It songs that i don't go back to very often, but ofc it has masterpieces. Also Hands On Me is overhated:)
10/10s : Love Me Harder, One Last Time, Break Free
least fav : Best Mistake (6.6)
    *#6 Yours Truly* | 8.20
    - like most people's it is my least fav. It has few amazing songs and others are just good, nothing AMAZING. It is a great debut but i'm glas she instantly changed the sound, bc to me, it only would work for a debut.
    10/10s : Honeymoon Avenue
least fav : Popular Song (6.3)

Dangeroues woman has a Japanese deluxe with focus (was suppose to be the first single off dw), step on up, I don't care, sometimes(my fav), touch it (fan fav), and knew better/forever boy. My everything also has 2 bonus tracks- cadalic song and too close. And other important info thank you next was made in 2 weeks and was made after mac miller's death (from what i know ghostin and imagine is about him) and she broke up with Pete davidson too
Sweetener came after the Manchester terrorist attack at her concert after that she said in an interview she's gonna make albums how she wants, fk the radio.

I think a lot of the deeper parts of Thank U Next get lost in the radio friendly elements and trap beats. As good as the 3 singles were (Thank U Next, 7 Rings, & Break Up With Your Girlfriend) they do a bad job at showcasing the overall message the album brings. It also helps to understand what was going on during that time period because it’s reflected in much of the pain scattered across the album. Imagine discusses a love that is now unattainable, in this case her relationship with Mac Miller being a thing of the past because of his death. Ghostin discusses her relationship with Pete Davidson and how she never truly got over her relationship with Mac and the grief this caused her. She was aware how much this hurt Pete and noted that realistically she should leave and touches on how it ultimately led to the end of their engagement. In My Head talks about falling in love with the image you created of someone in your head but not the real version of them. Fake Smile touches on how unhappy she is but her refusing to put on a facade for the sake of her image as a celebrity.

I think that more of her recent songs are the reason she’s gotten so big. Sweetener was talking about her recent trauma, she had a terrorist attack in one of her concerts and that was the reason she wrote no tears left to cry. She then proceeded to write about her relationships-pete and Mac miller-who then passed after the album. She wrote about her feelings towards both of them, how much losing him hurt, how much she “used” pete in a way, to get over Mac and how she saw that it was unfair to him. So she went through a lot, and wrote about all (most) of it.(thank u next) She wrote about how she was done faking it all, and that she really was going through a lot, mentally and emotionally. 7 rings and thank u next 1-were bangers, 2-are amazing, 3- talk about her success, and how she wouldn’t be here today if it weren’t for those past relationships, failures, etc….Postions(my favvvvvvvvvvv) really was a parallel to thank u next. It talks about love, if she’d ever find it,(spoiler alert she did) she talks about finding the one and locking him down. And pov was a full circle moment of ghostin, saying her baggage is fading. She’s honest about her feelings, the vocals are flip flopping out of this world, and i have listened to Positions Deluxe nonstop since it came out. Honestly she deserves her 10’s because she went through so much, and still came out of it, prbly better than i could 😂 Ariana’s voice is unmatched by many and that’s why she’s so successful ✨
