This is EXACTLY what I needed to know to help me make the right decision - I love how Showit sites look, but the idea of Wordpress and plugins gives me nightmares (I say this from experience)...plus, as a non-designer, non-tech person, Squarespace is actually easy to use and I'm having fun figuring it all out! Thanks for putting this comparison together!!!
Good comparison video Paige but a few discrepancies: - The default view for Showit isn’t tablet, it’s desktop. You can confirm by looking at the icons down at the bottom of the page. - Showit has live chat support. Also curious what plugins you needed for your Showit website? Were they all related to your blog/blog migration?
Mmm I beg to differ. My definition of live chat is I can talk to a person live through a chat widget. While showit has a chat widget on the page, you basically just use it to submit a message, it asks for your email and they email you back a few hours later and then the convo continues by email. The response times listed on the showit website for “chat” and email are the same, a few hours, which to me doesn’t quite meet the definition of “live.” The plugins we used were for our Instagram feed, Pinterest Pins, link redirects, anti spam, seo plugin, converkit, google analytics, & a cookie plugin. And re tablet, also sadly disagree, the view is far too narrow on the edges to properly represent a horizontal laptop or desktop screen and much more resembles tablet dimensions.
@@PaigeBrunton Hmm.. I've definitely had a different experience talking to Showit chat. I've had live chats with real time conversations on multiple occasions, never via email (as long as I reached out during their office hours). So I don't really think it's fair to make a blanket statement and say they don't have live chat when that's simply not true. As far as the desktop view being narrow, Showit offers 3 ways to view in the designer (Desktop, Mobile, or Desktop and Mobile). You showed your website in Desktop and Mobile view which condenses the views to fit them both side by side. If you select the icon to view desktop only, the designer window appears full screen...which is same as Squarespace. As you stated, this video is based on your experience/opinions and that's all you can really speak on (which is understandable). I just hoped to bring some further insight into the things mentioned above that may fall outside of what you've personally experienced during your time using Showit :)
Love this review! I'm Squarespace designer, currently trying out Showit. I definitely can see that it takes more time to make everything align and nice in Showit
As a designer that 2 mm from left to right sometimes feels so painful on Squarespace. You just want things to be perfect and it just drives me insane. But you are right that all other benefits of Squarespace outweigh Showit for sure. Thank you for creating this video it was so helpful.
Wow! This is amazing Paige 🤯I can't believe you actually made the switch, but I am so appreciative of these results 🙌🏻 BRB while I go tell everyone I know about this video, haha 🤣
I'm not very far into your video and immediately with the info you provided I already want to stick with Squarespace lol. TY for showing what Squarespace provides without extra plug ins. I've been trying to tell my Dad that Squarespace is good because we don't have to update plugins etc.
Thanks for the video! I see a lot of non-SquareSpace users chime in and I never feel like you get an unbiased answer as a result. I do see WordPress users saying that affiliate programs prefer a self hosted WordPress blog to be accepted into their affiliate programs. I'm new to all of this, so in your experience would you agree or disagree with that assessment?
Mmm great question! TBH I’ve never used Wordpress long-term and therefore researched what affiliate programs prefer tso I couldn’t tell you! Best of luck finding the answer though!
Great experiment - wow!! The WordPress vs. Squarespace SEO question has never made sense to me. No one’s done a study comparing apples to apples data. Meaning identical content uploaded at identical times that's tracked over time to see how they perform. Instead, a number of Wordpress and Squarespace sites with "similar parameters" are compared. The problem is these are still totally different sites with different content uploaded at different times, so this has very limited usefulness in determining which platform performs better. By comparison, if scientific/medical research were conducted this way, those researchers would find themselves in very big trouble, to put it mildly.
Hahahaha so true about the “if scientists conducted studies this way” 100% agreed! It always annoyed me too but took a good bit of explanation on why the statement was wrong, I’m excited to now say the short & sweet statement “I moved my site to Wordpress and the traffic stayed the exact same.” Anyone can understand that in a second!
Your video is helpful but a little hard to follow with all the jarring edits pasted on top of one another. I would have preferred a more relaxed conversational style with natural pauses for us to digest the content. Otherwise, good advice!
hi,what do you think, is it possible for me to learn web design in five months and start earning at least 2k solo freelancing, I have a critical situation in my family now and I'm finishing school and don't want to go to university yet,so I need to start making money
Hey Niomotori! So sorry to hear about the family situation! Honestly, I think anytime you're in a critical situation as you've described I'd recommend getting a regular job. They're reliable and when you're in a tough spot, I think a reliable income can bring a lot of peace of mind. Of course it's possible to learn web design and start freelancing and earning in a few months, but it's no guaranteed pay cheque like a regular job, so if the situation is critical, I think that's your best best. Sending much love and best wishes! ❤
Every-time I start down a Showit rabbit hole, your video brings me back to reality!!! I want to love Showit but I hate Wordpress!!! Great video!!🤗

Mhmmm! So accurate. Any thoughts which you prefer after trying both now?! @simonakofanov618
Definitely Squarespace! 🥰 @@PaigeBrunton

Awe so happy to have helped! Haha I understand that 2mm pain, but I’ll take it over plug-ins any day haha. Glad you agreed.

Wow, thank you for an honest review from using both. I keep getting the WordPress people claiming that it’s the best in SEO coming at me.
Just you wait for my next video, I'll help you set those folks straight with real research & stats on our move!
Fantastic review. I’ve been contemplating a switch from WP to SS for years.
Awe good, so glad it could help! Are you going to make the leap now?!

Geat comparison video! This was my experience with using Showit too, back in 2020. 😁
Yeah glad our experiences seemed to line up!
But is showit the same as a independently hosted Wordpress site? Because we changed ours and made better speed mods and our rankings soared.
What ranked better, showit or WordPress?
