"Kahn must merge" might have also led Raiden to concluce he needed to let Kahn win the tournament.
That might still be interpreted as "win the tournament"

Tbf, "he must win" could also be applied to the tournament in the same way. So the original message messed up cuz he wasn't even talking about the tournament
@@rosestar1324 It could but the fact that he didn't say "Kahn must win" doesn't carry the implication he should let Kahn win the tournament, because Raiden naturally wouldn't assume that.
To be fair to Future Raiden, if he said “Shao Kahn must win!” Present Raiden might’ve thought he needed to let Shao Kahn win the Mortal Kombat Tournament…

Same outcome either way. Whether Shao Kahn won in MK1, 2, or 3.... it would've ended in a merger regardless. And neither Raiden nor the ElderGods could stop it.
The loophole in MK3 allowed Shao Kahn to merge Earthrealm with Outworld. The Elder Gods couldn't intervene. Raiden wasn't in the game (not even in UMK3), because Earthrealm was no more, and thus Earthrealm's protector God got yeeted into the void.
The only way to stop it was for Kitana to reawaken Sindel's memories, and thus turn on Shao Kahn, and for Kahn to be defeated (in MK3's case it was Liu Kang who did it). Allowing the merger would be the dumbest thing to do. "Future Raiden" / Raiden from that timeline, would be well aware of this. The problem is that the writers didn't.
@@EndoScorpion he was in MK Trilogy though which was technically the true final version of MK3 but with everyone playable in the original trilogy era.

If past Raiden let Shao Kahn win the tournement, Then Earthrealm would be lost.
Future Raiden was thinking of the illegal Invasion Shao Kahn attempted after losing TWICE in a row.
THATS when he had to win.
He probably attempted to send the message right before Kahn started the illegal invasion but being beaten by a sledgehammer can cause some inaccuracy in relating a message through time.
Clearly, the 'he' in "he must win" was referring to Reptile in the first fight of the tournament.Raiden missed out on the best possible timeline resulting from that outcome.

You should do a "reptile sucks", with his downgrade from a hidden boss to a common enemie with the inclusion of the other downgrade from being a elite bodyguard to cannon fodder henchmen.

7:30 One thing to note about the Sindel massacre. The only reason Shao powered Sindel up with Tsung juice was because Raiden killed Motaro, which he didn't do in the original timeline, based on the fact it seems he only did so cause of the visions. So the massacre is his fault in an indirect manner at least.

The massacre is not his fault Raiden was unaware of Sindel resurrection nor knew of her heading towards the cathedral to try and kill them all when he returned he was in shock with what happened when he was away and I don't know why he took Liu Kang with him.

I wonder if the time vision ability is something Dark Raiden specifically studied as his hidden ace in case he didn’t come out on top in the Battle of Armageddon, or even earlier as a backup plan to overcome Onaga. This seems exactly like the kind of extreme measure Dark Raiden would be more than willing to exploit, and it explains why young vanilla Raiden can’t use it, because he hasn’t looked into it yet, and considering how it works out at the end of the day, it makes sense why he wouldn’t later on in the NRS trilogy.

When Raiden said "He must win", he meant Mokap should be allowed to merge the realms of manual keyframing animation and motion capture. Which is why with every new MK game, more and more motion capture is utilized in gameplay, cutscenes and fatalities

I knew that you'd defend Raiden in MK9 Story, he really did his best. And being honest, of all the characters in MK9 and their decisions, Raiden is not THAT stupid compare to others like Bi Han waiting until his last second to tell Scorpion that he wasn't who murdered his family XD

I love your take of what if "Liu Kang lives/revived in MKX."
In fact I wanna see Liu Kang leaves in Mk9 finale rather than got killed by Raiden and become exiled.
It could be much more interesting conflict in MKX story as he abandoned Raiden and Elder Gods, until eventually meeting the "Kids" to mentor them and decide to aid them, giving Liu Kang a second chance to trust Raiden once more.
Raiden's amulet was connected to the shadow realms which have a direct relationship with the power of combatants, and at the end of Armageddon they were basically at massive amounts of power and when raiden did that he probably didn't even think it would work, it was basically a "I will defy you until the very end" move, also another theory, Shao Kahn became stupid in the new timeline because raiden messed with his brain smh.😂
I loved the bit of Raiden saying he beat the shit out of Liu Kang in every timeline and I also cracked up at the lighting sound effects16:19. This game can really be summed up as the Raiden and the elder gods being really shitty at their jobs. I legit feel bad for Liu Kang as he put his full faith in Raiden and well look where it got him and the others.
Dark Raiden should've said "Shao Kahn must Die"
I love how Raiden was smart enough to come up with that whole plan to warn his past self on the verge of death, and yet he wasn't smart enough to realize that, in the comically vague way that he phrased it in, the message pretty much doesn't mean anything or help anyone in any way. Even if present Raiden could somehow tell that he was referring to Shao Kahn and they let him 'win' the tournament, he could have just merged the realms without breaking the rules.
4:03 I agree Raiden was given a huge burden to carry, and him trying to save and help as many people as he possibly could while dealing with the whole timeline resting on his shoulders shows how good Raiden truly was.

I always interpreted Quan Chi line as that everyone who dies in the invasion either is absorbed by Shao Kahn or used on Ermac by default so Quan Chi took a deal to take Earthrealm souls from either Shao Kahn or Ermac

PS.: I can't wait for people to be question and meme Liu Kang's decisions in this new timeline. Simply the Chosen One, the MK Champion, the one we for sure can count on to protect the good guys. After all, that's a certain thing us MK fans do all the time when it comes to the lore XD. And Liu Kang is my favorite. He is such a cool and badass character in his Fire God design =)

I think Raiden took Liu Kang to heaven makes sense, he legit expected good news from elder gods and he wanted Liu to hear them. Because Raiden wanted to regain Liu's trust.
Dark Raiden, though he had a very brief existence, Was also awesome at the start of MK11.
He was still Raiden but aggressive and neglective as fuck and boy did that work.

I always thought Raiden should’ve said “Let Kahn Merge”. Not necessarily let Shao Khan win the tournaments because duh *end of life as we know it* but when Shao Kahn comes to invade Earthrealm - just let him merge the realms and break the rules of the tournament (which is the eureka moment of Raiden finally realizing what he has to let happen at the end of 9). Happy to see someone else had that same thought 2:04
But at The moment he received The massage they'd be at The tournament, so The only logical conclusion would be to let Shao Kahn Win The tournament, It was always gonna end badly, Raiden Just tried his best

Everybody knows if Shao Kahn wins the tournament - it would be game over, story ends. They wouldn’t just let him win the tournament, raiden literally realizes that they had to purposely let him try to merge the realms for the rules to be broken and the elder gods to interfere. The only reason it took him so long to realize that is because he made his message stupidly cryptic.

One thing that makes no sense to me is how lui kang got recked by an accidental defensive blow by raiden. Meanwhile in the comics Erron black survived a fight agaisnt an evil raiden who was buffed up by blood magik.

It's funny how Liu Kang even got to MAKE his own timeline and sees firsthand how shit spirals out of your favor and control even when you get the reigns from the start (which Raiden didn't have)

I'm not sure how canonical they are, but a Raiden dialogue in MK11 says that "he must win" was a deception by Kronica. I'm not sure how that's supposed to work, but it's there.
The theory of Raiden being a mini-hourglass makes much more sense, seeing that he saw a vision of many of the previous timelines (him and Liu Kang fighting) in MK11. Which led to the creation of Lord Liu Kang, and Kronika's defeat.

Therws literally no reason for it especially since he would've changed that outcome for sure. But honestly sindel should never have been strong enough to defeat all of them like that so its just bad writing

Raiden should of said “Kill or find sindel” since the reason why the earthrealm invasion happened because of shao Kahn trying to look for sindel
But that dosnt solve the issue. The invasion is not the problem, they won that already in the og timeline.

What Raiden should have really done is having Ferra/Torr challenge Shao Khan to a poker match.
Believe it or not, “shao Kahn must win” was the right answer. During raiden’s attempt to get help from quan chi, he found out that if Shao Kahn defeats him, the elder gods would punish him because they didn’t challenge each other for it to count. So what I think future raiden should’ve said, is “Shao Kahn must cheat” or “don’t challenge Shao Kahn”

Edit: i always thought that liu kang died because the fire on his fist wasn't controlled anymore and so thd fire spread on him...like raiden lightning made liu kang lost the control of his flame and got consumed by them.
TBH I think the amulet thingy is like a dark magic use or something, reason why Raiden from the present never really tries to use it to prevent the revenants.
I think "Shao Khan's payment" refers to allowing Quan Chi to take the Earth warriors souls without turning Outworld hostile. Basically allowing Quan Chi to make revenants so long they support Outworld and not Earth Realm.
Were the prior visions of the past MK games intentional or a side effect. Because Future Raiden only wanted to send the one message. All the additional stuff seem like pointless side missions.

I think now in retrospect, NRS has been pretty bad at writing stories *insert Such Wasted Potential meme here*
It just sucks when we could've had more compelling stories but NRS thinks we're too dumb to figure stuff out or notice plot holes, but hopefully MK1 can give them the fresh start they needed to make a good story

If invasion of other realms is fine so long as there is no merging, Shao Kahn could literally act like every empire in history. Invade, set up colonies, appoint governors and officials, etc. NRS made the Mortal Kombat tournament pointless, save for sparing any would-be conqueror the trouble of having to use realm portals every time they want to visit a specific part of their empire

Something I just randomly thought about . When Shao Kahn snaps Kung Lao’s neck , Raiden was getting ready to retaliate but if you recall tournament rules he can’t fight in the tournament at all. If Liu Kang doesn’t rush Shao Kahn and raiden goes to fight him for killing kung Lao wouldn’t that be an auto loss for earth realm ? Ik the writers didn’t put any thought into that 😂. Well, Shao broke the rule first and EG didn't give a single heck about it. There's too many inconsistency in the rules, but I used to guess that it could be completely legit for Raiden to zap Shao to death
